Great location if you want to see the Geysirs at times when the tourist buses have gone. Good breakfast buffet.
Wifi works only in the main Hotel, not in the cabins which are used as guest rooms. So while its a great place to watch the Aurora, any notifying apps become useless without wifi. It's ok that you need to order dinner in the Restaurant by 8pm, but if nobody shows up for dinner, the Restaurant will close early and you can't even go for a drink (there's nothing else in the area). Heating in the cabins is poor, no heating at all in the bathroom and to get hot water in the shower, you need to let the water run for a while.
Nice to wake up and have a wonderful breakfast(Must have been the best pancakes I have had in a long time) and then see they geisers before it got too busy. Also only a 10 minute drive from gulfoss. Oh and the hot tub was very nice as wel.
Literally across the street from the geyser. Rooms are lare cabin style, you only share one wall with another guest. Breakfast was the best ive had on this trip, bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes and alot more. Met the owner a couple km down the street at his 'hobby' a bar and pizza place called Skjol- go there if you want good conversation and excellent pizza.
Had to go back to the front desk to get a wifi device because our cabin was far from the main building, there was another person at the front desk and they were surprised the other employee just didnt give us one at check-in. Resturant was too fancy for my liking, but the salad was good. Really not much to complain about. Oh theres 2 doors to each room, one is a back door to a patio and our back door didnt open. Im kinda streaching to find bad stuff.
Location next to the geyser area, petrol station on site, cute bungalow, good breakfast selection
Wifi didn't work in the bungalow but we told reception and they gave us a mobile wifi hotspot, there was a used glass in the room when we arrived, and breakfast could have been hotter. Also the pool has been filled in which was very disappointing.
It's very close to Geysir and Gulfoss. The staff were also quite helpful!
Hot water takes close to 10-15 minutes to warm up so you need to take this into account.
Amazing location.Stayed in one of the chalets and opened the back door to an amazing view of the countryside.Use of the sauna.Being able to cross the road and see the geysir at any time.Lovely choice at breakfast. Also close to Gulfoss.
Location Stayed in cabin by the river which was lovely
Wifi didn't work
The hotel's restaurant is a can't miss. Like most eateries in Iceland, the Fish of the Day is generally very good. This was no exception as it was presented as a fine dining establishment. We only stayed one night in one of their cabins away from the more trafficked areas, which was nice because these geysers are a site to see and attract plenty of attention. A nice spa/sauna was a short walk from our cabin. The reception and restaurant staff were all charming. Great place to say and would highly recommend it.
WiFi didn't seem to reach to our cabin as it was the furthest of the bunch.
View of construction materials outside of the window! "Steak Sandwich" in the restaurant had the most pathetic amount of steak in it.
This hotel is one of the only places to stay in Geysir, and central to Golden Circle attractions. The food, breakfast and dinner, was very good.
No longer has a pool, although still has hot pots.
The multi media centre next to hotel was very informative on movement of earth surface plates, formation of volcanoes, earthquakes and geysers. Breakfast excellent. Thermal pool and sauna very good
Accommodation some distance from reception, dinning room and thermal pool
Excellent Location next to the Strokkur Geysir
The room was very simple, the Wifi didn't work. Too expensive.
Location.location. Location. Location. Nice lady at front desk. Location. Location.......
It took 20 minutes of running water to get warm enough for shower. Shower stall tiny. WiFi unstable but location is remote.
Ideal location directly across from the geysers and across the parking lot from a tourist center with (relatively) inexpensive food available. Very comfortable beds. Accommodated a late check-in, and were very pleasant even though they were clearly there just waiting for us when we arrived around midnight. It's all about location, location, location - and that cannot be beat.
Our room was in an unattached back building which was pretty good and creepy late a night. The rooms are all on a single floor and have windows that open horizontally with plenty of room for a person to fit through, though we made sure it was good and secure and it was fine. Internet is only in the common spaces, which we did not want to sit in in the middle of the night when we arrived. Common to Iceland, but there are no late-night food options around so when we arrived hungry around midnight, there was literally nothing to eat. The check-in girl very kindly gave us some fruit and turned on the cash register so we could buy a bag of nuts and raisins, but that was it.
Right across from Geysir, view from bungalow rooms, hot tub
WIFI did not work at all in bungalow, and in restaurant signal was too weak to connect. Restaurant service was slow. Cod entree was good but langoustines on top were raw(were supposed to be cooked) and waiter would not do anything about it.
This hotel is close to Geysir.
Our booking form stated that our room would have wooden floors - it did not. We were dismayed to find ourselves away from the main hotel in an upmarket hostel like complex; it did say away from main building on the form but where we were looked like a building site. We asked to put drinks on our room at the bar and were told we couldn't because of 'politics'. It is the only hotel where we had to pay at check in. This cemented the idea it was really a hostel. The food was fine, but service was poor and locals were served before us despite arriving after. Wish I had more characters to complain.
Not much to like: overcrowded tourist buses dumping people everywhere, facilities not working as listed at right, unhelpful reception staff (who said "Thats the way we like it, ching ching" When another bus pulled up.... There are signs in every room saying "hot water can take up to 20 minutes to come to your tap, please be patient" No reply to my email complaints after the stay. Avoid this hotel, so many other nice experiences in Iceland, but this was our low point
a. Internet was not working in the room at all. Reception said it had "stopped working that morning" (wink wink). I had booked the hotel since it had internet in the rooms as I had business to do next morning. Reception said internet would be available in the lobby. I saw several guests complaining about the issue. b. Sauna was not working. Your reception also said it "had stopped working that morning". c. Sauna showers, we waited for 30 minutes, there was no hot water to come ever (there is no mixer valve in the pipe anyway to adjust temp) d. Hot water wait time in the rooms. While it does come after 15 minutes, this is not something tolerable in a room in your price category. Especially after being freezing from waiting from sauna so long. (No one the other hotels we stayed at in Iceland suffer from this, I assume a pre heater or circulation loop would easily solve this kind of thing.) e. No local maps available at reception. Another standard of hotel in your price range. f. Heating did not function Room 17 g. The sound insulation between the rooms is not sufficient - we listened to the couple next to us 'having fun' for quite some time. h. And, when I had my business to do at 7 am, I came up and found the lobby locked. So, I stood in the cold outside the door trying to connect to their signal. A real fab experience...
No wifi the entire stay- the receptionist /manager couldn't care less. No double beds. Spa - only tepid "hot tub", no towels- receptionist/manager told us to grab our wet towels from the room. The spa was supposed to be open until 23:00, defacto closed already at 21:00 with no one to talk to. Rude and arrogant manager, didn't want to assist with anything. For is way too expensive and the service in the restaurant is very slow. Rooms are not even remotely like in pictures. A complete tourist trap!!
the wifi wasnt working well in the rooms
For Iceland not a typical bad hotel.
Staff can be more service oriented (as everywhere in Iceland).
Poor wifi connection
Helpful staff, excellent meal
When we arrived the hotel had made an error with our booking and there was no room available. The member of staff apologised and quickly found another hotel with a room within 3 minutes drive. Hotel Geysir accepted it was their error, the outcome could have been worse!
The Geysir hotel is in a fantastic location. It is right next to the Geysers and only a few miles from the Gullfoss waterfall. It was great to watch the geyser through the restaurant window while having breakfast and it was nice to be able to get to Gullfoss early in the morning before the tour buses arrived. We stayed in a cabin that was generally very clean and was quite spacious. I think that it was the perfect place to stay on the golden circle.
If you are expecting the Ritz Carlton, you may be disappointed. The wifi was spotty unless you were in the main building. The bathrooms were functional and pretty clean, but there was some mold in the shower crevices. It takes 15 minutes or so for the hot water to become hot. The hot tub and steam room were not very nice. If you have a little more of a sense of adventure though, and realize that this is a hotel in a really remote area, you will be pleased with how clean and comfortable the rooms are - and how great the location is.
The room in the cabins near the river are nice. Clean an big. There is free shower cream, shampoo and more. They have a little hotpot and a sauna for the guests. The breakfast is amazing!
Its really expensive, it could be less than that. You only have good WiFi connection in the restaurant. The tv in our cabin wasn't working.
This is the old 'bait and switch' routine. They lead you to believe you are staying it the old historic hotel, but when you get there, you are actually staying in a new building that is down the street from the property. The new building is really nice, but if this is not what you are expecting, then you will be dissapointed.
