We only stayed one night but it was pleasant. Our room had a view of the mountain. Staff were friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good! A reasonably priced place to stay if you are wanting to check out the park.
Aside from a gas station across the street there isn't anywhere close by to get food besides the restaurant which may be a little pricey (but good).
This is a nice hotel in the area of the snaefellsnes peninsula and there are many sights here but! Keep in mind that it is a pretty remote part of iceland and not many tourists. Especially in November or anytime outside of the tourist season of July-August. The hotel owner also has a restaurant a town away which is delicious but pricey. Otherwise there isn't anywhere to eat in this entire area so come with snacks. The breakfast the hotel served was full of everything you could ask for and delicious. We were the only guests the night we came which was a bit freaky for me but was fine in the end :) the area itself has beautiful sights like the beautiful cliffs and lighthouses at the end if long gravel roads, beaches, overlooks, a cave, and just beauty all around.
The pillows were very lumpy and small.
Friendly and helpful staff, variety of things for breakfast. Good starting point for exploring beauties of Snaefellsness.
There is a light house at the west of the town.
Nothing much to eat around there.
The fillet of lamb was fantastic
Only can have dinner in the town nearby in weekend
Location location location! What a spot! We travelled in late October and there wasn't a sinner about! This had one issue though, no where to eat! Although we found a fast food bar in the next town. My wife is a veggie and had an issue the whole time she was in Iceland. Never wants to look at a Margarita pizza again! We were the only residents in the hotel and were given a pin code to access the building after 9pm! Staff were back for 7 and prepared us a lovely breakfast. We will be back, for the scenery, the isolation and the friendliness of the staff.
My wife found the bed uncomfortable but I had no issues.
We liked the location. It was right next to Snaefellsness glacier. A short drive and you would have been in amongst it. The hotel itself seemed to have a bit of a 'forgotten' air about it, but I guess it was September when we visited.
The fact that while we were there the weather was awful with one of our two days being foggy, windy (gale force) and we were unable to see the landscape because of the dense fog. But of course this is not the fault of the hotel!!
they took us in when we were only 1/2 room booked!
breakfast was so so.
We stayed at Hotel Hellissandur the night before we ventured into Snaefells National Park. Inside of the hotel was much nicer than expected, with great staff that will help you make reservations at the one nearby restaurant. It's worth mentioning that the hotel owns the restaurant as well, so don't be surprised when 'Hotel Helissandur' shows up twice on your credit card! Not a whole lot going on in the town (at least not in September), but it was a great location for maximizing the time we had to explore the park the next day!
Hotel is in a very small fishing village in the middle of no where, however this ended up being a great location for seeing the Snaefellness glacier, going to Hellnar and viewing the fjords. We also enjoyed hiking up to the Saxholl volcano. The breakfast was very good.
Because we were there towards the end of the season, the hotel was not staffed in the evening and there was only one other car in the parking lot. Once we arrived, we were told that the restaurant was not open for dinner and there was no where to eat at 7:00 pm except a gas station in the next town.
Hellissandur lacks the tourist focus that other places (Stykkishomur and Grundafjourdur) on the north coast of this peninsular do. Overall the whole peninsular would be a magical place to visit if the weather was good.
Only stay here if the weather is good since it is a long drive to get to it! Unfortunately we had very poor weather and could not even see Snaefellsjokull glacier even though it should have been clearly visible from the hotel. It is also a very exposed location, so when the wind gets up - hold on to your hat.
Restaurant was not open for us, but reserved open for other guests, which was on a Saturday evening and we struggled to find anywhere to eat for the evening whilst others ate well in the restaraunt
Location was perfect for our self-driving tour. Nice view of the mountain and its ice cap.
No evening meal available during our early September visit-- had to drive into Olafsvik.
Good clean room, nice meal in Restaurant. Good Position.
The rooms are quite nice although not too spacy. Good furniture. Good resting place before going to the glacier the next day. Also good breakfast.
The restaurant was closed and there is not much choice than driving to the next village for dinner. Quite lonely location
Perfect location for visiting the national park. Friendly staff. Breakfast & room was ok. Nothing more, nothing less.
We ate at the hotel restaurant and not 30 minutes later my husband was having intensely painful stomach cramps. He threw up several times before we decided to call the front desk's "in case of emergency" number. No answer. We ended up calling 112 so we could be connected to a doctor. The next day we brought up our grievances and the staff was completely unresponsive or unapologetic. They charged us full price for their poor quality food and the room without taking any responsibility for their guests' welfare. We were very disappointed. Their actions made our stay the low point of our otherwise great trip.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean.
Breakfast was not great. Limited options and every morning we went down there were no scrambled eggs left and they were not replaced while we were eating.
Had a great stay , lovely staff. Great for walks around the beatiful area....
Excellent food Very good equation quality - price Overall good location (near national park), except that Hellisandur has not much to offer
See location Under + No kettle in the room
Excellent room and meals.
Fantastic views of mountains from the dining room windows, although just a small niggle was that they hadn't made more of the views when designing / positioning the hotel.
The location is great for the access to Snaefellsjokull, where we climb up to ca. 1000 meters.
Rather high price even considering the high season. Almost no place to eat out nearby except the hotel restaurant.
No sitting places when bar and restaurant is closed
