Perfect location in downtown Reykjavik, easy access to the shopping street, restaurant - everywhere. The hotel itself was quite ok, nothing special thou. The room was small and so was the bathroom, the drain was blocked which made the use of sink pretty uncomfortable. The bed was good and the room was clean. Breakfast was pretty basic but ok. The breakfast room was too crowded thou. The view from the room as real great (main square) but it was pretty noisy until around 5 am. That didn't bother us thou. An ok hotel, nothing special thou.

We are not very happy with our stay at Center Hotel Plaza and we think that value for money was low. We arrived at Center Hotel Plaza after nearly 3 weeks touring in the USA were we had stayed at some 12-15 hotels. Center Hotel Plaza was by far the least good hotel during our vacation, but one of the more expensive. The night we arrived, the TV did not work at all, but after calling the reception we were asked to take out the plug, plug it in again, and than we got 1 channel to work. That was all during our stay, we never managed to get the rest of channels to work.Next morning the lift did not work well at all, and there were no stairs that could be used (only for emergency). The reason the lift did not work well was that the hotel was full, and the lift capacity was not enough for a full hotel. It was a very bad feeling to be totally dependent on one lift that could not cope with capacity when there were no stairs to be used, if we could have used the stairs, I would not have been upset and would have understood the capacity problem, but without stairs, I do not accept that the lift does not work properly when the hotel is fully booked. The breakfast was a disaster the same day, the staff could not cope with serving breakfast for a full hotel, it is the worst breakfast experience that I have ever had, and I have stayed in thousands of hotels. It was clear that there were too few staff, and they were not well trained at all.The content of the breakfast was OK, but no signs explaining if different egg baskets had different types of eggs(hard etc), nor any signs for jars with youghurt etc (or what it was).. Tables were not cleared as guests left.I had asked for a wake up call and fortunately I was awake when it came, for the signal was set at the lowest possible level, had it been the morning when we had to wake up at 4 am to catch our plane, it could have ended in a disaster.

The location and breakfast were excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would go back again. The room could have been a little bigger considering we had upgraded to superior room. Annoyingly the bathroom light lit up the bedroom through a glass panel in the wall and there was no coat hooks. Petty but frustrating

Our room faced the backyard and was quiet, in spite of the location at a central square in the old town There was only a small elevator in our part of the buidling and no access by stairs. We occasionally had to wait forever to get to our room. It also gave me a creepy feeling if we for some reason had to flee the building. No wireless internet access. Bathroom sink was completely blocked. Breakfast room in the basement was not nice.

The room 441 was much better than 136 which was like a 1 star hotel. The room was comfortable and cleaned every day, but it was not vacuumed every day as the same white piece of paper wasin the same place every day. Could not use my Mac in my room nor my iPad. Normally I stay at Tingolt which has WiFi in the rooms. Might be a good idea to have at service available.

Excellent downtown location, but nevertheless quiet. The rooms vary. Mine was quite small but my daughter's was big with a nice big bathroom. Good 'rainfall' type showers. Buffet breakfast is good with both hot and cold food and different breads. The staff here were very friendly and readily help with any enquiry. Free WiFi in the lobby and Internet in the rooms by cable.

The hotel was right in the city centre, very convenient for getting to restaurants & shops (2 minute walk) and right next door to the Tourist Board Centre for booking activities. The hotel staff were extremly helpful, informative & friendly. We booked a Superior Double room which exceeded our expectation, clean, modern but very cosy and the beds were extremely comfortable. I would't say this would suit a family with young children. Highly recommended for business, city break or holiday. As the hotel is bang in the city centre, Friday & Saturday nightlife can get a little rowdy into the early hours (depending on where your room is situated in the hotel) but this certainly didn't bother us but is worth mentioning. Breakfast was very nice (continental or eggs/sausages etc) but there was no varient, so if you are staying for more than a week it may get a little boring. Lastly, you can put any valuables in a safe at Reception but it would have been preferable to have a safe in the room so you didn't have to keep asking Reception to retrieve items. All of the above are minor points though, our stay at the hotel was fantastic and we highly recommend CentrePlaza.

CenterHotel Plaza has a great location in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. Lots of great restaurants and shopping in the area. Close to the harbor. It can be noisy at night - we were frequently awoken by people outside at 4am. The hotel itself is nice - nothing too fancy and our room was small but functional (lots of drawer and closet space) and the bathroom was modern and clean. Tiny but powerful shower although getting attacked by the shower curtain was annoying! Breakfast is fantastic - huge range of foods - fruit, cereal, eggs, bacon, bread, salad - so you can fill up pretty well. When the hotel is full on the weekend or when people can't leave because of a volcanic eruption (!) the breakfast room does get very crowded so recommend eating early or late. It's open from 7 - 10am which is also nice. Supposed to have wired internet in the room but I couldn't get it to work so had to take laptop into lobby to access wireless. Would be nice if whole hotel had wireless and probably wouldn't be that hard to do.

Hip design, great location, clean, great gathering/lounge areas, free lobby access to wifi, efficient & pleasant staff and decent spread for breakfast - all for very reasonable rates. Stayed for our first two nights of a 10 day trip based on a websearch, location and rates. Decided to return for our last night for a final gift shopping run in Reykjavik before heading to the airport, via the Blue Lagoon. Glad we did - we were upgraded to the top floor with amazing views of the city and harbour! Rooms do vary depending which of the 3 buildings you are put in. Bathrooms are pretty small, and it was hard to stop the floor getting wet when you shower - could have used a more effective shower door, or at least a bigger bath mat!

Great view of Reykjavik through big windows of our top floor room (especially given the modest rates.) The staff was friendly and helpful, quickly accommodating our request for a room with a queen bed instead of twins.

“It was clean, comfortable, in a perfect location - and most of all - it was quiet. It had all the necessities a traveller could need + additional space of an apartment compared to a small rooms Reykjavik hotel usually offer. Adjustable radiators are a very very important thing during the winter time as well ! Also, Reykjavik hotels in many cases are situated above or very near to night-clubs or pubs which makes it almost impossible to sleep there during the weekends. I stayed in Welcome Appartments Lindargata 38 apartment, and it has a perfect location - 3 minutes from Harpa conference hall, just around the corner from the main shopping street from one hand and the seashore from the other. Still there are no clubs or pubs next-door. The price was very good as well. I was extremely sattisfied with this choice !!! I will go for their appartments also next time and will not even bother with cheking the hotels !! even the self-chek-in is very convenient !!” Kairi, Tallinn |
