Hotel Stykkisholmur

Proximity to town, restaurants, countryside.

Unsmiling cheerless staff. So different to other Icelanders we have met. Some new people being trained, but seemed unusually nervous and strained. Experienced people we dealt with were curt and abrupt.

Considering that Stykkishholmur is a town of less than 2000 people, it was a pleasant surprise to find comfortable and quality lodging there. Service was efficient and polite and the food at both dinner and the breakfast buffet was excellent.

The lobby was nice?

The lobby created a false impression of the hotel. The room was slightly dirty, the furniture was outdated, the sheets were scratchy and felt gross, and you could feel each spring in the mattress. Completely uncomfortable. Though we stayed for two nights, the linens were not changed nor was the room cleaned on our second day. We were informed that as we were only one of two guests staying on the second day, the staff was leaving and would be unavailable and were given a key to a side external entrance as they were shutting down the hotel. Uh, creepy anyone? In addition, they overcharged my credit card by$ 200, which they fixed when the mistake was pointed out...overall, this place does not match the description provided on booking's website. They've renovated the lobby, but definitely not the rooms or management.

* Renovations were going on while we were there which meant that the communal areas smelt of carpet glue * there should be something on your website advising potential guests driving from akureyri and northern iceland that they will be driving on a gravel road for a good hour or so

Breakfast was acceptable.

Sheets, curtains and many other things in the room were in a deplorable state.

Restaurant good and accommodated our vegetarian request by making an excellent impromptu pasta dish. Staff friendly.

Mattresses were too soft, and twin beds (pushed together as a pretend king bed) separated too easily. Breakfast offering was a bit meager. Liquid soap fragrance too strong.

There was nothing to like about this hotel except its location.

Except for the courteous receptionists, the hotel smells moldy upon entry. The furniture looks old and dirty, as if it has never been cleaned nor updated. Wall art is scattered and haphazardly placed. Breakfast spread was meager and, of the five hotels where we stayed, the least appetizing. Renovation was minimal and botched wherever we looked. It seems that if you have any expectations for anything beyond a clean room and comfortable bed, you will be disappointed.

Quiet. Lovely view from room. Friend enjoyed playing a round of golf courtesy of the hotel. Good location for enjoying the area.

Convenience for the ferry Baldur for our touring holiday. Breakfast. Views.

We made the mistake of using the second entrance - cigarette butts, broken concrete and drab decor which was not a great way to make a first impression. The room, while clean, was in need of an update - 1970s decor, different coloured patches on the wall where light switches had been replaced, and cracked tiles in the bathroom. Generally very 'tired' appearance.

Some of the breakfast didn't look very fresh and appetizing. The town is not big but the hotel is still a little out of the way if you're only there for a short visit.

Clean, modern and spacious. Excellent location and fantastic view. Good food in the restaurant. Hot water public swimming pool next door.

Little bit impersonal although staff in restaurant very friendly

The room was small but clean, with comfortable beds. A nice view from the windows. Staff was friendly and helpful. We has an excellent meal in the evening overlooking the harbour. The complimentary breakfast in the hotel was very good.

There was only 1 chair in the room so there's really no space to relax in the room. If you're simply looking for a bed, it works.

Hotel ist frisch renoviert und macht einen guten Eindruck.

Wegen der Vorsaison war das Angebot gerade beim Frühstück sehr schlecht. In diesem Fall war das Hotel seinen Preis nicht wert (kann aber in der Hauptsaison anders sein).

Aufgrund der vorhandenen Bewertungen haben wir den Aufpreis für die Suite investiert und waren begeistert. Der Blick aufs Wasser als auch auf die moderne Kirche sind wunderschön, die Räumlichkeiten großzügig und sehr ansprechend, einfach herrlich nach intensiven Reisetagen. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist reichhaltig mit frischem Brot, Teilchen und Obst und bietet einen guten Start in den Tag. Bei Buchungen der Standardzimmer, die preislich nur gering unter der Suite liegen, sollten Reisende darauf achten, den modernisierten Teil zu buchen. Da es nur wenig Alternativen zu diesem Hotel gibt, ist das Personal nicht darauf angewiesen, die Gäste zu verwöhnen. So gibt es einige "mürrische" Vertreter und einige sehr hilfsbereite.

Für uns war alles perfekt. Wer sich auf einer Rundreise eine kurze erholsame Auszeit leisten möchten, sollte die Suite buchen und den privaten Spa-Bereich mit Wellness-Bad nutzen.
