We admired the superb view of sunsets over the hills at this most quiet and pleasant place in the countryside. How good it felt to hear the bells of the sheep flock coming back to the farm in late afternoon. On the site, at Vergelle, we bought their tasty Pecorino (pecora is sheep in Italian) from the owner who makes it himself in diverse flavors and degrees of aging. We enjoyed dining at the lovely little restaurant just beside the house where another member of the family prepares and offers excellent Toscana food at reasonable prices. The wine we chose was just fabulous: the best Brunello (a 2005, at a good price) that we had during our whole trip in Val d’Orcia (in our opinion, it beats any Chianti by far, and we tasted quite a few good bottles there also).
