Al Portico Guest House

This place far surpassed our expectations. It was like renting a private luxury apartment in Venice. Great location, helpful staff, clean...and we had room 9 with a private balcony. Honestly couldn't have asked for anything more - were still talking about it!!

Nothing...small shower and no elevator if I MUST say something.

Location great - acceptable walking distance from sightseeing points. Room clean and area quiet. Staff friendly.

We stayed at Al Portico Guest House in mid May for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. On our early arrival we were greeted by Sebastian, which turned out to be a fellow Romanian. Not only were we able to already access our room right away (there was still a little cleaning to do, but we could deposit our luggage and freshen up), although we arrived long before check-in time, we were also offered our first Italian espresso and stayed for a while chatting with Sebastian. In our room we found a small bottle, of local, venetian red wine, 2 bottles of water, a few small snacks and a water boiler with some tea, all of which were very welcomed by us. After we returned from our first trip through this wonderful city, we discovered that Sebastian had left us 2 extra bottles of water (which we would later take with us on our tours through the city) and a few candies. So at this part of the review we have to say a big thank you to Sebastian for making us feel so welcome. All the best to you and your family. In the following days we used Al Portico as our home base, returning many times to take a short break before heading out again. As you have your own key for the downstairs door, you can come and go as you please, which is wonderful as you can head out as early or late as you would like (unlike other places, where you are tied to certain hours). It's conveniently located in Cannaregio, one of the less touristy regions of Venice, yet you can still get anywhere you want to, whether it is by foot or from the nearby Vaporetto station. The room itself was very spacious (including the bathroom), clean and had air conditioning (which we didn't need to use, as the weather was fairly mild). We even had a view of a small canal from our window. The rooms were cleaned daily, another example of hotel level service in this Guest House. All in all we had a wonderful time both at Al Portico and in Venice and we would gladly come again.

Although we truly enjoyed our stay, there were a few minor things that bothered us on occasion: - The doors/walls are quite thin and if the other guests are a little louder you will hear it, especially if they return to their rooms at night. It didn't cost us any sleep, but should be kept in mind for people with a light sleep. - There is no staff past 2 in the afternoon (the case of late arriving guests is handled though). While this was no problem for us at all, I think it is still worth mentioning. - While the wifi worked on our tablet, it worked on neither of our phones. Probably just a technical difficulty and as we didn't really come to Venice to browse the Internet, not a big problem either. - This is probably a little nit-picky, but while the bed, sheets and blanket were very clean, the cover blanket and pillows (the one that sit on top of the bed and the actual blanket you will cover with) had a few black spots and weren't quite as clean as they could have been. All in all these are very minor complaints that didn't affect our stay at Al Portico much at all.

Even though it was a very small room and shower, overall it was clean and they provide 2 bottles of water for free. Location is very good- close to vaporeto and train station-

Since the B&B is right on an alley,it smells when you get there, however I did not find that as annoying as when at checking out the receptionist had us waiting for about 10 minutes without acknowleging us while she was having a personal call-I found that to be very rude. I did not expect her to hang out as soon as we walked in, but I think she should not have ignored us until she was done with her call. I dont understand the other reviewers pointing out that managment office was so friendly- This lady was anything like described.

Very close to main street. Entry a bit hard to find but fine with instruction from hotel. Room is nice and clean.

Would be good if a map can be provided on arrival

The rooms were bright and HUGE. Very quiet area right off a main walk area. short walk to the square and great restaurants. Stairs can be a bit of struggle with heavy bags. The gentlemen checking us out was great... 8 of us checking out with 4 others checking in AND he still provided espressos to us all.

The location in the Canneregio section of Venice is excellent -- central, but quiet.

The hotel was in a great location and was very cute!

It rained a lot while we were in Venice - one evening, upon returning home quite late from dinner, we found that our little entry way/sitting room had flooded a bit and one of the walls was wet and moldy. Because of the lack of staff and hour we were unable to contact anyone. More importantly, the rooms were not cleaned daily. We found that the cleaning lady had made our bed, but that was it. My friend had spilled some baby powder on the floor and when we came home it was still on the floor.

The hotel is very cosy, small but extremely new, dispite the appearence. Rooms are very nice and well designed.

Not to easy to find, but I guess that is most common with Venetian venues! It has no breakfast but there are wonderful cafetarias nearby. Instead, the hotel offers a welcome tea, coffee and wine, very nice indeed.

The entrance is under a tunnel-like alley which leads to the cannal. The location is right in the heart of Cannaregio close to both the train station and most attractions. We were pleased to find a very clean and decorated room which was kept warm, nice for us to find after a long day in the rain (end of March). Theres really nothing bad I can say. Me and my partner enjoyed our stay while paying less than it was worth.

If i HAVE to state something we didnt like, ill say that the view from the window was blocked. But really didnt stop us from enjoying

Room is pretty large and very clean. Renovation seems to be not so far ago.

When arrived, door was closed. Nobody was opening it for around 20 minutes. Not very nice. Then the cleaning lady gave the keys for the room (no receptionist at all!). Here I have to mention that we informed the hostel personal by email when exactly would we come. So, this attitude is just unacceptable!

I had a wonderful room, great bed, the staff was really nice, it helps to create a magic atmosphere. the location was great.

Very nice was marking ribbons the door rooms and keys for rooms. Room was exquisitely and also was a great sense of privacy. Super was refreshments / mineral waters /. The overall impression is great, when they return to Venice again like to stay in our Guest Fouse Kovácsová from Bratislava Slovakia

Desinformation about check-in after 2:00 pm . It would be appropriate to inform guests of email before they coming to Venice, when they wrote, they will come to the Guest House after 02:00 pm.

Stanza caldissima senza climatizzazione, finestre piccole su cortile interno, ci hanno fornito un ventilatore a richiesta ma la situazione non è cambiata!!! Notte in bianco! Bagno cieco: wc, lavamani ridottissimo e piatto doccia con tenda, più adatto a sgabuzzino 1.50x0.70 forse! Pagamento anticipato con penalità totale x cancellazione....per forza, altrimenti chi ci resta?!!
