Location, breakfast, staff, cable TV with English stations.
Room smelled of perfume, maybe carpet fresh, which gave me an allergic reaction.
The location is only 80 meters from ferry station so you can easily get there. The personnel are very friendly, helpful and totally willing to go the extra mile to help you have a better experience. The location is close to San Marco square and Rialto Bridge. The breakfast was very good, delicious and abundant. I will definitely go there any time I go to Venice.
The hotel is in a perfect location , very easy to find . (No. 1 vaparetto to giglio.) the hotel was comfortable and clean , very nice staff , extremely helpful! The breakfast was great, There is also a small bar in the hotel which is perfect for a few drinks and Venice is just beautiful.
Location was great for the water bus and St Marks square. Hotel American bar lovely place to relax in the evening.
Bed was very uncomfortable and not big enough.
the room was well equipped and the beds comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. the location is excellent, 5 minutes walk from St Marco and practically next door to the water bus stop.
Great location from St. Marco's Square. About a five minutes walk to the square from the hotel. Breakfast was typical European breakfast with delicious coffee. Hotel staff were always polite and friendly also. Hotel was well kept and clean.
Room was somewhat small, but well put together. Bathroom as tiny!! The shower was essential a drain in the floor with a shower curtain that pulled around to cut it off from the sink and toilet. Our room location wasn't the best. It was located over an alley and during Carnivale, it was always loud.
Fabulous location, friendly helpful staff, spotlessly clean, breakfasts fab. We had lovely room with canal view.
Location to St. Marco's Square was wonderful. Just a 5 minute walk away. Hotel staff were courteous and the hotel was well kept. Breakfast was the typical European breakfast, but was good.
The location of our room wasn't great. The room we had was above an alley and it was always loud.
Although my reservation was cancelled due to lack of confirmation of my credit card, the hotel reactivated my reservation from the previous price conditions any problem. This is for me the high point, as during festival time in venice a good hotel with good price is the most difficult thing to find. Breakfast is quite good, Rooms spacious and relaxing, no noise problem. I liked our stay very much. The reseption was very attentive and helpful. I would very much suggest and advise .
The ice machines in the corridors are very noisy. It may disturb in case it is in front of your room.
Great location, surprisingly good breakfast. The hotel is clean and warm.
Missing a kettle with tea and coffee in the room. I booked and paid a deluxe room, and got a simple small room with a little shower at the same price
Great location, great breakfast buffet, extremely friendly and helpful staff,
The room was small but tastefully and efficiently furnished.
It was the location I liked the most.It was easy to get from the S.Lucia train station and easy to find from thrbGiglio Vaporetto stop.
I didn't like the room.I don't think it was a standard room.It was like an economy room.Bad wifi..
We went there during carnival. The hotel was very close to major attractions of event and historical sites.
No kettle in room. Though they provided us with hot water when requested.
Every thing we needed we got. :-)
+ the location was perfect: the hotel is very close to San Marco and to the Academia bridge, and, best of all, you need to walk for no more than 3 minutes to get there from the vaporetto stop (Giglio) + our room (Superior Double Room) was clean and comfortable; the bed was truly king-sized + not too hard and not too soft; the wardrobe was decent-sized and there were quite a lot of hangers inside, so all our clothes fitted easily and didn't wrinkle in the suitcase + the windows overlooked the canal (beautiful view!) and there were solid wooden shutters providing very good protection from the noise if we wished to rest + a wide variety of simple but tasty food for breakfast all in all, if we come to Venice again, we will definitely book a room in Hotel Ala
there were just two minor inconveniences (but really MINOR compared to all that we liked): first, there was just a curtain separating the shower space from the rest of the bathroom, so there was no way to keep the bathroom floor from getting wet after showering; also, the TV picture was a bit snowy, but then again, if you want to go to Venice to watch TV, you can just spare yourself the trouble and stay home :)
The location was excellent. The room made us feel real Venice. We love it and wish to get back to stay once again.
Location was quite good with water taxi able to come to rear door of hotel. Overall I would recommend the hotel.
Breakfast was served until 10.45am which is good but bread rolls were always gone by 9.30am. Room was OK but not quite like in the photos and were a bit smaller than expected.
The staff was really friendly and always ready to help if this was required, the rooms were very clean and nicely organized
When we came, the hotel was having workers on the last floor and it was really noisy, and the bar was only opened at weird hours.
Good location, nice building, decent breakfast, fair price
Staff not hugely helpful or friendly. We arrived late in a group and wanted a drink in the bar after dinner but the barman refused to serve us as he wanted to go home. ditto Saturday night. Communal area very small - one sofa and two chairs No tea and coffee in rooms and no room service Not great for a group and inflexible and rather inhospitable for a decent hotel
The Location of this Hotel is fantastic! It's a 2min walk from the water taxi. We got dropped outside at Giglio which was where the hotel is based and really easy to get back- The area of the hotel is nice and relaxed and so close to St Marks Square! Literally 5 min walk, would highly recommend staying there for convenience. Great little restaurants around too just ask the staff on where to go- We were recommended to go to Rosa Rossa and it was AMAZING. Breakfast also had a great selection and lots of amazing food/coffee/tea- Ask for a view side of the canal if you would prefer looking out onto it. The bar in the hotel was nice too :)
Our room had a double bed and a single bed in it which made it a little tight fitted for the room but apart from that it was fine. I thought charging 2.50 euro for a small bottle of water was very high but i guess that's the price to expect in a mini bar/hotel in Venice, also be prepared to pay city tax when you check out- We pre paid everything but didn't realize we still had to pay 20 odd euro for 3 days on top of it when we left. Obviously that's the law so that's just how it is.
good range of breakfast items helpful staff great location by vaporetto stop nice venetian theme to the rooms immaculate rooms
walls are very very thin we were disturbed lots, not the hotel's fault but something to think about before booking.
I like the place of hotel in heart of Venice , 5 min walk from San Marco square and close to Canale Grande ,situated on Canaletto ,on nice small piazzale of St. Maria Giglio. Staff is friendly and fast , good breakfast, very clean . I will stay again there , for sure.
Small rooms , too small for two person !
7 day stay: 31 January - 7th February 2015 Location - perfect: 1 minute walk to water transport, 4 minute walk to St Marks Square, lots of nearby restaurants (some good, some not so good) and shops. Breakfast: better than expected, lots of variety, fresh and plentiful produce, seating may be a challenge during summer months, Espresso? just ask! Media: English language newspaper (NYT) in lounge area, CNN and BBC World in room Other: Friendly and helpful staff, clean room, would definitely stay again.
Nothing we didn't really like, however when we first arrived, the room was too warm for us (we prefer the cold), but much better once the staff turned the bathroom heating off (air-cond in room only offered heating, cooling was "not available during winter"). We prefer the spontaneity of making a cup of tea in our room, the hotel safety policy necessitates we request a coffee/tea tray from reception each time. The free wi-fi worked OK in our room although at times it was a bit patchy. The signal was much stronger downstairs in the bar area.
The hotel lies close to the Canal Grande and San Marco Sq. There is Peace and quiet, but one does still feel the buzzing of Venice. The hotel very freindly and the staff - high and low - very gentle. We would like to come back very soon.
The beds is hard, but we think it is very "Italian-like" and we could hear our next-door neighbour argue. It sound like they were fighting and the furniture was crashed. But it is not to blame the hotel.
Ideally positioned to explore la Serenissima. Staff very friendly and helpful. Vaporetto stop only 50 yards away.Plentiful breakfast with wide selection.
