Once a 15th-century Franciscan monastery, Chiostro Delle Monache is just outside Volterra's Etruscan walls, next to the Presidio Ospedaliero Santa Maria Maddalena hospital.
Score from 349 reviews Very good
The Antica Badia is a 5-minute walk from the centre of Volterra, along a walk path and close to a bus stop.

The Hotel la Locanda is in the historical center of Volterra. We are near to the Roman Amphitheatre and to the “Porta Fiorentina”.
Score from 141 reviews Very good
The staff on duty was uncaring, dis-interested , and very unhelpful. Her negative attitude completely coloured our stay. I would not recommend this hotel because of her.
Staff(owner) was very accommodating and took pride in her hotel. Perfect location....very pleased with everything. Breakfast was also very nice!
Great breakfast and very helpful staff
This is a great central location close to everything. Friendly and helpful staff. Local bar 'Incontro' up the street was our local with some inviting desserts.
We had a room on the top floor. There is no lift so if many flights of stairs are a problem ask for a room on the lower floor. Also, the sound from ground level is very amplified at the top floor. We were woken a few times despite closing the windows.
location and staff
The room had a large (bigger than a queen) and comfortable bed and nice pillows. Nice and helpful staff - with reasonable proficiency in English. Gave good instruction and directions to good restaurants and sights. Good breakfasts. Good help in getting car into parking garage.
Could have used luggage racks and more drawers to put stuff. Pink curtain over bed was "cutesy"! One flight up to room - no elevator. No pre-notice that GPS will lead to streets not allowed to non-residents.
- great location in the old town - close to the parking place - large and nice looking room - good breakfest
- no lift, only stairs; but if you have no big luggage you will be O.K. - some black rot on the linings in the corner of the shower bath
Location was great, staff was very helpful
Hard to find initially
Lack of on site parking. Shower leaked and doors did not close together.
The staff of the hotel were very helpful whenever we had questions, needed directions. Many thanks to Julia and the other staff. The location of the hotel was perfect. We we lucky to get one of the few parking spots in the parking lot just outside of the city's main gate.
The bed was a little hard, but then all the beds we've slept in have been hard so far.
A good value-for-money 3 star hotel, located centrally.
The Wi-Fi was a bit iffy at times in the room.
The bed was more comfortable than other Italian hotels. The room was quiet, we couldn't really hear anyone else (our room was toward the back). The bathroom was big, with a nice shower and rain style shower head. Breakfast was good, an assortment of pastries, yogurt, meats, and your choice of caffè. The location was perfect for seeing the city, close to many restaurants, and the staff was very helpful and kind. The furnishings were also nice, and was a great value for the money paid.
The Internet was slow and mostly non functional in the room. We went in the common area and lobby area to use wifi. The floor looked a bit dirty with hair and dust in the room. Parking notes in the booking could have been clearer. Parking close by is for payment, but free parking is found in lots 10-20 minutes away by foot. We were able to go park in a free lot and walk back to the hotel.
Beautiful room, right in the centre of town. Good size for a few nights. Stays open to midnight with no curfew. A great bar just up the road.
Staff was very helpful and friendly
We got room without window technically.
No elevator and should be noted due to lots of floors. Checked out after 1st night. Mold in the shower and no amenities. Stay other place if you can.
Staff, location, the building itself is right in the heart of the old town
Rooms are small and basic, but totally adequate. Nothing special, but you really don't want to be hanging about in your room when you are in the heart of Tuscany anyway.
The hotel was a great old palazzo and the staff very helpful...
Central location Massive bed Great shower Accommodating staff
Location. Helpful staff. Old fashioned hotel in an old village.
Shower was tiny, however there was lots of hot water. Our room overlooked the main drag, and there was a lot of street noise (cars, street cleaners, young guys singing & shouting late into the night.
- Location, nice big room, good breackfast
- We were asked to leave our passports for registration at the reception, but when we went to pick them up, there was no body at the reception for a long time - our passports and the keys of the rooms were at easy reach for any unauthorized person. It felt quite insecure
our room was a nice size and adequate but our adult children stayed in a room that was small and not very well appointed. The location was good in that it was in the old part of the city so easy to walk everywhere but the street was loud. The breakfast was fair. I thought it was a bit over priced.
Good location, very kind young lady on the reception desktop
Technichal maintenance of the hotel is very bad!
friendly, helpfull staff
The location and facilities were excellent. We truly felt at home. IMHO Volterra is the least touristy of the Tuscan towns. Plenty of tourists for sure, but lots of locals as well. Views are wonderful, and the town is compact. So one can wander down intriguing alleys without getting TOO lost....
Hard to say. The shower was teeny tiny, but typical for the price range.
