Spectacular views from the terrace.

Quite a drive up the mountain from Como so if you are a nervous driver this is probably not for you.

The views from the balcony were amazing, the hotel staff were friendly and extremely helpful offering shuttle services to the funicula railway and to a nearby restaurant. The staff also arranged for early pickup on two occasions for a limo to Lecco and the Como Stations. We recommend anyone stay Albergo Paradiso Sul Lago but suggest you should closely watch charges on your credit card.

We are of the opinion that we have been charged 255Euro (room charge) twice. Once by Albergo Paradiso Sul Lago and also 255Euro by Buona Vacanza Fil. Roma 1roma 380. Albergo Paradiso Sul Lago refute the claim. We are pursuing this matter with our credit provider and Booking.com. The issue is did Buona Vacanza charge us again for the service, if not how did they obtain the charge 255Euro and our credit card details.

Location and staff

VERY clean hotel, with a very friendly staff! The view from our room was awesome, looking down over the city of Como and the lake. Breakfast was wonderful. Great that there was a hot tub and indoor pool available, even in October. Took the recommendation to visit the restaurant next door, and we were not disappointed! Awesome local fare and decent prices.

Only two restaurants close by for evening meal, unless you take a 1km walk down a dark pathway to village near the Fernicular. Driving is on very narrow 2 way steep road.

The hotel has a breathtaking view over the Lago Como. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfy.

The view of the lake is incredible, just awesome. The hotel manager, Andrea, went out of his way one night and picked us up from the the funicular after the bus stoppped running, he is a superstar. Clean rooms, comfortable, quiet, nicely remodeled, restaurants close by, great free breakfeast, lovely hotel.

The road going up there is not for the faint of heart, you will see why once you drive it!!!

The location is on one hand just amazing! On top of a 900m. hill with a great view on Lake Como. On the other hand it's kind of a nightmare to get there via a very steep and small road for about 7km upwards. The view from the terrace is also amazing. There's a small swimming pool and a spa outside, the staff is very friendly and helpful and they offer you a welcome drink upon arrival. You get vouchers for discounts in several restaurants nearby and there's enough (public) parking space just in front of the hotel.

Access by car was a challange.

Fantastic views over Lake Como from the large common terrace (not set up for breakfast), nice breakfast rolls, friendly staff. BUT: A small car and good nerves are needed for the treacherous time-consuming drive up the narrow serpentine road from Como. We had to have both mirrors folded back on our VW Golf and so did the oncoming cars!

False advertising! We booked months ahead and our triple room was ca. 3Mx3.5m (!) and not renovated. It did not overlook the park; it overlooked the street and public CARpark and had a tiny old tv above the bathroom door (no flat screen tv)! The hotel shuttle consists of an hourly public bus (refundable) with limited operating times.The area is not full of restaurants and shops. Breakfast was NOT "served on the terrace", as advertised (no umbrellas provided, no food offered on the terrace level). One was allowed to carry food all the way down (a fair distance) to the terrace, but umbrellas were only erected AFTER breakfast finished. Who wants to have butter melting and ham and cheese cooking in full sun? Consequently not one person had breakfast on the terrace whilst we were there ... and this meant less work for staff collecting dishes! Instead everyone used the large cafeteria style room with no views to speak of. Breakfast was average with limited choices and included fruit drink (not juice). Buffet table was untidy, coco pops scattered all over the table when we got there and still there when we left. No table service whatsoever, self-serve coffee from a machine. Our shockingly small room had a bad smell upon arrival (not mould, but of food gone off or someone having been sick). We were kindly offered an air-freshener and told to leave the balcony door open. There was nowhere else to put our small in-cabin size bags than in front of the bathroom door! To use the bathroom we had to shift them in front of the entrance door and back again when leaving the room! Smallest imaginable room! Great views didn't compensate for the disappointing overall experience!

Booked a family room with balcony and lake view,but room was very small right at the top of the hotel with no lift.The window in our room was 1m2 with a railing not a balcony. view of lake was wonderful but on the whole the facilities was disappointing.bathroom had a bad smell and wiring was exposed on the wall fan

the hotel owner/manager and his staff were extremely helpful and knowledgable of the area. the hotel was clean and tidy our room was clean and tidy and the view from our balcony was just great overlooking lake como especially in the evening.

the pool area was not great nor was the pool very large. lots of weeds on the paving and not enough sun loungers for the amount of guests. internally the hotel was fine but externally the balcony looked tired and the pool are needs some attention. biggest problem i think guests will find is the web site looks great but the drive up from Como for the unexpected is a nightmare. basically a 4 mile drive on single carriage road with lots of bends but worth the veiw when you get to the top.

We booked here because of the beautiful views of Lake Como, the price and the great reviews online. We were very happy there! The staff was friendly and accommodating, especially Andrea, the view was even more spectacular than we imagined, and the breakfast was delicious!

The website indicates that the hotel has their own shuttle that picks you up from the Funicular stop. This is not the case. You need to take the public shuttle that runs there every hour. It's 1.25 Euro, and they reimburse you for it, but we had no idea, and the shuttle times are not clearly displayed. Also although the funicular runs from Como every 15 mins from 5:30 am until 10:30 pm, the shuttle only runs from 10:15 am to 7:30 pm. Sonething to be aware of. If you have a car obviously it's not an issue, which most people seemed to have. We did hire a taxi twice to get to/from the hotel to Como which is between 25-30 Euro each way... If the hotel updated their website clearly explaining the transportation options and schedules, it would have made our stay and time more enjoyable rather than having to stress about it.

The staff was very friendly, room and facilities very clean. The hotel is located up in the mountain, the road is very small and twisty, but the view on Lago di Como is wonderful, marvellous.

the staff are so friendly and helpfull,breakfast was excellent,one thing though take a taxi or car up to hotel when you arrive, its a bit hard going taking the train up, and then you have to wait for the bus or car from the hotel to pick you up.perfect location for a short stay, if you want to be near the woods or mountain walks.the views of the area were amazing.

Although a fabulous location getting to it up 9kms of narrow twisty roads from the town below is a bit daunting.in appearance from the outide the hotel looks a bit tired but is fine inside.the pool is a plastic makeshift affair and the whirpool is a home jacuzzi on the veranda overlooking the lake.neither were in use while we were there and the pool was dirty.i think this place could be a great boutique away from it all hotel but it is spoilt at moment with cheap cutlery and paper serviettes,dated bathrooms and a lick of paint.the photo of the pool on booking.com is very misleading,such a pity needs better management,because its not that far off being very good

The hotel staff are so helpful, the views are breathtaking, the facilities all good apart from the outdoor pool, but the jacuzzi and indoor pool are fantastic, the children loved it. Note, the bus from the top of the cable car to the hotel is only small, try not to bring to much luggage, you buy the bus tickets on the bus itself, takes 10 mins up the hill, first stop. I would recommend lunch in the small park just up the hill from the hotel, very nice food and service.
