Situated near to one of the now demolished gates in the wall which once surrounded the city, the hotel was established from the renovated home of a well-known family of Florentine merchants.

Perfect location - no need to say staff super super nice bed and towels are clean
No kitchen (refrigerator) Blanket is not warm enough not enough hours for check-in if you are arriving late and leaving early
You overlook the Baptistry at the Dumo. The fresco on the ceiling of the very large room.
The huge room, the furniture of the room. The excellent location.
Location right next to Duomo Staff very nice and accomodating. Was quiet overnight.
No staffing present in afternoon. Has a very dark/prison like entry. Is on 3rd floor and elevator broken during out stay. Very dark/forboding entry and stairway. Wasn't clear to us that hotel was several floors up on stairway(above Haitian consulate) No signage inside. Was unable to see due to no light on stairway. Room quite small and bathroom fixtures old. Had to nearly duck to get through door into bathroom. No sound isolation from halls/rooms.
Building is ancient, high ceilinged and full of its own history. Superb location right next to the Duomo. Staff were friendly and the bed comfortable. Not a modern sterile hotel, but a room with character, 16thC painting visible on ceiling, the bustle of Florence life going on below your window. Rustic furniture, perfectly functional and clean shower room.
Don't stay here if you want complete silence at night - there is always a hubbub outside the window, and church bells to greet you in the morning much as it has undoubtedly been since it was built in the 1500's. The lift is tiny so if you're mobility is limited this hotel is not for you.
The people at reception were so lovely and helpful. Only hotel on our trip so far to help us with our luggage! Lovely people.
From our window, we looked directly at the Baptistry & the Duomo--amazing, especially at night. Everything was an easy walk away. The building is 700 yrs old & has partial ancient frescos on walls & ceilings. Comfortable beds.
The private bath is across the hall, which was somewhat inconvenient. No A/C, understandably, but there is a fan. The steps can be a challenge & the elevator is a tight fit for only 2 normal-sized people. The furnishings are old & worn. The location overcomes a lot, however!
The front desk host was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is lovely and the room is spacious enough with a comfortable bed. I highly recommend this hotel.
It was exactly what we were looking for. Its a definite 3 star place. We found it very comfortable and clean. The location was wonderful. There's so many beautiful sites nearby. The Duomo is spectacular. The city is amazing. A little more care has to be done to ensure the portable air conditioners are functional. The place was built in 1608 so I can cut a little slack. My favorite was your elevator.
The internet connection was terrible.
The location was good and clean
No phone in the room and towels were thin and tuff Little to old
The location of the hotel is unbeatable. It is right next to the Duomo at the heart of the old city. The hotel is in an old building with antique furnishings and partly preserved frescos on the ceiling and walls. Our room was in the corner with the Duomo and the main square visible from both windows. The rooms are well maintained, clean and comfortable. This hotel offers good value for money.
There is no air conditioning and the wifi which is available only in the public area did not work most of the time. The private toilet/bath rooms are outside the rooms.
Staff was very friendly, the room was clean, and you can't beat the location.
It was a bit noisy. You're right by the Duomo, but it's not just the noise from the street. Even though the other guests were quiet, the locks and the elevator made a bunch of noise. It was difficult to stay asleep.
you looking for a cheep place in the center of florence where everything it's right close to your staying? This is the right place where to stay. Humble location but with all you need to rest well. Are you hungry? Go to visit Toscanella osteria, passed Ponte Vecchio on the right inside...excellent!!!
Location is amazing! Rooms are really good. You are just few steps away from Duomo. Everything is so close.
We only stayed one night, but found the hotel to be quite nice. We had a triple room with private bathroom and the room itself was quite large! it was also clean and comfortable. The view from our window was the Duomo, which was amazing! The location of Albergo San Giovanni is terrific! After already being in Italy for a couple weeks, we really appreciated that there was a small elevator so we didn't have to carry our luggage up the stairs. Umberto was very friendly and made our "after hours" check in seamless. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others!
Great location and great price! Definitely would stay again!
Stayed in the annex B&B. Location was great - walking distance to train station and all the sites. Huge room however bathroom was small. Ludovico was a great host and recommended a bunch of great places to eat.
Breakfast was from 8:30 to 10:30. A little too late if you're trying to get moving early. Breakfast was limited anyways and not something you will be satisfied with.
I like the location
Wi-fi is poor you need to stay to the lobby to get connected.
The location was good
No tv , no cffee or tea, staff unavailable most of the time. Very confusing at the time of arrival as there was no one to welcome us. We were late treading the email with instructions....
location was great
elevator very small, had to carry luggage up 2 flights. wifi only in common area.
Location is really fantastic, it must not be place in florence better than albergo san giovanni, umberto was very kind host, we were there for 2 nights and were absolutely satisfied.
Because of central location duomo square is always full of people and there was a little noisy
Albergo San Giovanni is a very lovely hotel with a warm homely feel to it. It also feels a very safe and secure environment. The owner was really polite and welcoming. Beautifully quaint room and interior and very clean and comfortable. Fantastic location right in the city center of Florence so easy to get to anywhere we wanted to explore on foot. This was my second stay at Albergo San Giovanni and I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to family and friends.
Very nice location, 2 blocks from Florence Cathedral. Reception is very nice. Friendly staff.
Very old building. Wifi from slow to no connection. Not recommended for travel in winter. Because the warm water for heating is closed from sometime around 24:00. The room is freezing cold in the night. My friends and I all caught cold after the two cold nights.
