The main reason for my stay was to visit Cortona, a beautiful old City in a beautiful part of Tuscany; it was such a pleasure to relax in the Piazza and enjoy an aperitivo, and then watch the golden sunshine of the evening playing on the old walls. The location of this Albergo, and then the reception I received from the owner, Franco, was excellent; I immediately felt very comfortable. No problem with the room, although the bathroom was just a little tight for space. It was nice to sit outside in the evening and watch the sun go down over the hills. There was the terrace where I lingered over an excellent evening meal served by very attentive staff. Being alone I appreciated it very much when Franco brought a special bottle of wine to my table, sat down with me and we had a chat. During my stay he gave me good advice about places to visit and, in particular, where to go to buy good wine at a good price. I will definitely recommend this Albergo……and sometime in the future I hope to go back!

The owner and staff were very friendly and prepare very good quality dinners for us in the Restaurant, surely our best meal out of 10 in this area around Cortona. Staff were friendly and helpful in the restaurant as well as the owner. Measuring against other restaurants it was excellent The bathroom and open shower with thin curtain in middle of bathroom very inconveniant. The brekfist is a bit thin with sweet cerials and sweet bread that we didnt like. We bought our own muesli and fruit but owner then on request brought us some fruit. Brekfist could surely be improved, measured against Italy standard adn could improve a lot against Germany, Switzerland and South Africa.

Fantastic location in the mountains only 10 minutes drive from Cortona, and good food. We don't recommend the half board option if you want to enjoy the wine with your meal.

The friendly family running this hotel were most helpful with directions to other towns as well as things to see/do. The home cooked food there was delicious. They make the best coffee! I wasn't too keen on the wet room type of bathroom although we booked a room with a shower so sure a room with a bath may be a better option. It was kept very clean though so didn't cause an issue.

Location was excellent for us. Plenty of great forest walks plus access to the "old town" of Cortona. (Tuscan hill town). With the hotel being situated some 14kms from Camucia-Cortona railway station it took us 2 short bus trips to get there, but no real hassles. From then on owner/manager Franco Lunghi went out of his way to make our stay memorable. He provided detailed explanation of several forest/hill walks. He made it clear to us that he would have picked us up from the station had we asked and insisted on driving us back the 14kms to rail station on our departure. This was a great help and took all the potential logistical stress out of our relatively short stay, freeing us up completely to enjoy ourselves. Franco & his wife Mirella were perfect hosts and we had a great couple of days at their hotel. The half board deal was excellent - food was great and very good value. We have no negative comments at all. Our stay was very enjoyable, great value and we would have liked to have spent more time there had our itineray allowed. If we are in or near Cortona in the future we would definately seek to stay at Ristorante Albergo Portole.
