Opened in 1308, the Albergo Cavalletto & Doge Orseolo is one of the oldest hotels in Venice. It is set right behind St. Mark's Square, and features elegant rooms and a private pier.

Close proximity to favoured venues. Dinner menu was great.
Poor use of premises, no area to sit and relax while waiting or watching TV etc. Squalid conditions, very untidy.
Mythic locanda with original art in all the rooms and spaces of the hotel, restaurants both indoors and in the garden, good local cuisine, wonderful location.
Great location, helpful staff, quiet canal street near enough to all the major sites, but far enough away to avoid the crowds if you want.
The bed was a bit hard, but they all are in Europe, aren't they? =)
We loved it all, the old quirky furnishings the amazing location the helpful and laid back staff, the flowers outside the windows and seeing a gongola coming up the river under our bedroom window.
Cool building with lots of interesting curios and enourmous well equipped room with high celings and 2 balconys
Queen bed was two beds pushed together which wasnt hugely comfortable.
Great location even though it's easy to get lost in Venice
20 min walk from the station but in the heart of the Dorsoduro. Near a waterbus stop so good access to all the sights. Room very comfortable and fantastic view over the canal.
Perfect location in a quite street near Academia. Cozy rooms, arty interior, authentic restaurant downstairs.
Mosquitos, not very good wifi. Please note that there is a poor breakfast that costs Eur 7 and should be paid extra.
Ideal for budget travellers and the location was very good
our room was supposed to have air con but didn't, the fans were barely enough!!!
Very clean, comfortable. Location not great but OK, given that in Venise you only need to walk a few minutes in any direction to see something jaw-droppingly beautiful. Breakfast in the garden
Dissapointed by the restaurant. We were expecting this really wonderful experience and what we got a decent, but not exceptional, home-cooked meal. My wife and I could have cooked that meal ourselves. The garden is adorable, I will give you that. For the same money or less there are exceptionally great places to eat a short walk away. Our recommendation: Eat at the hotel only if you are tired or the weather is bad.
Location on a beautiful and quiet canal. Large courtyard restaurant. Balcony over the garden. Friendly staff.
Like most places in Venice, the bed leaves something to be desired.
Friendly owners who made us feel at home. Dining in the restaurant downstairs was wonderful and we ate there many times. Loved the garden at the back. Loved the art work.
Beds were not great but that is the only quibble we had.
Lovely location close to the city's main attractions yet in a quiet, peaceful area.
The breakfast was very poor and definitely not worth 7 euro per person. Also, be aware of additional tax they charge for the night which allegedly goes to the council - but can be only paid in cash...
Style, quietness, garden.
No shelf for soap in shower. No fruit, home-made jam or interesting rolls for breakfast.
A very authentic locanda. Could make one feel they were still in the Venice of, say, the eighteenth century, though the accomodations were fine and for us the location was great, just off the flow of tourist traffic but with the energy of the city just one quick turn or two away.
The size of the room and canal view were great.
The place could use some updates.
the view of the hotel, location of the hotel, declaration of the hotel. All look so perfect.
we had to share the toilet. This make me uncomfortable.
If you are looking for a charming but not luxurious place to sleep out of the high traffic district of Venice, this hotel fits your needs. Our room on the top floor overlooked a quite scenic canal. There was no lift so we had to climb a couple flights of stairs. It is a convenient base for experiencing Venice. The staff speaks enough English to make check in and getting directions very easy. Wi-Fi worked great in the common area (up one flight of stairs from the check in desk and restaurant), but was spotty in our room.
If you are looking for lot of services, a glitzy room and lots of action right out side your room, this is not the place for you.
