Location (if ones need is San Marco Sestiere) There are still hotels that discriminate single travellers. Unfortunately Al Gambero is one of them. I booked and paid for a double room and was stuffed into a small room normally used as single room (and there were in total 4-5 rooms occupied - low season). On my way out I asked the Russian receptionist if 302 was a double room: ..... "Yes!' was the answer with a surprised and a bit threatened attitude. "Why then only one glass, one cup and one towel?" Next morning I had the Italian drama that I was welcome to move to another room (which I refused because I am not in Venezia to pack/unpack suitcases) and on my return a bottle of Spumante was even at my room. A clear sign to me that they cheated and were discovered! Disappointing!

Free internet. Close to both Rialto and San Marco. There's no elevator. You have to walk up three flights of stairs and then down one flight to get to the room. If that had been mentioned in the description of the hotel, I would have chosen a different place.

Staff were very helpful and welcoming. The hotel was clean and comfortable - thank you for an enjoyable stay. Wouldn't suit someone who had difficulty with stairs - but this didn't bother me at all.

Thought the hotel was gorgeous and the fact it was small didn't matter. It was clean and well maintained and well positioned 5 mins walk from San Marco piazza and Rialto ferry drop. Wifi didn't work in room

the hotel is great and the location excellent. Easy to reach, very clean and the breakfast ok for an italian hotel. i would definity recommand it to everybody in order to enjoy the venice flavour the only problem was the lack of an elevator. I'm sure that this is the case for many hotels in venice but after walking all day it's hard to climb till the 4 th floor. nevertheless it' s oy a small inconvenience compared to the rest of the hotel

Location was excellent for a Venice trip, midway between the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Piazza. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was good and the room was clean and comfortable. If you are not good with stairs this is not the hotel for you. There are 4 floors and no lift.

The location in Venice simply cannot be any better. We were halfway between Rialto Bridge and Saint Marco Square, walking distance to fabulous shopping, great restaurants, gelato, coffee, people-watching, and tourist sights. Absolutely fabulous. There's a little pizza place around the corner that is great. Also free Wifi in the hotel. The breakfast was nothing gourmet, but it gave us a good start to the day. I thought the beds were a little hard for my taste, but the charm made it for it.

A perfect ideal location, between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge, very close to shopping areas, easy access from vaporetto (water bus), hotel is nice and clean, Venetian style, good thing is you can make coffe/tea in your own room! I do strongly recommend! The hotel doesn't have any lift so it might be quite an issue for those travelling with big luggage and small children

Charming hotel with a great location! Most hotels were charging extra for the cannel view, but our room had a great view without the extra charge. The location was great, so easy to get to San Marcos and other shopping areas. No elevator!

Location was excellent - half way between Rialto bridge and St Mark's Square - so you are really close to all the action and can walk pretty much anywhere. Even getting from the airport was straightforward, the vaporetto goes straight to Rialto! Breakfast was standard, but at least there is tea/coffee making facilities in the room which I think was a bonus compared to some other hotels we'd looked at. It wasn't as noisy as we thought it might be, the shutters kept out the calls of the gondoliers in the morning (but they are not that loud anyway!). We didn't eat at the restaurant downstairs, but we had a drink there and it was lovely. The roof terrace was a bit of a disappointment, there was very little view. So if you are that bothered about the view, get a canal view room! We didn't bother though and it didn't spoil our enjoyment.

Very nice place, comfortable beds, room was over small canal so not noisy. Friendly staff. Breakfast was good for European hotel. Restaurant downstairs was excellent Many other reviews mentioned the stairs, not a big deal for us but could have been difficult for people with disabilities.

Very nice location near the S.Marco. Nice breakfast and kind staff. The room has a nice view to the canal. 20 min walking from the train station so you'd better to plan your route first. I was luckly enough not to get myself lost :-)
