Our visit was at the beginning of December and we felt like we had the city to ourselves. Quiet location with a nice room. Staff was very friendly. I've stayed at many places all over Italy and the breakfast selection here is one of the best I've experienced in Italy so far. Luckily the parking attendant at the garage gave us a ride and called someone from the hotel to take us there or finding it may have been a little difficult.
Parking is about a 15-20 minute walk (and over 100 stairs). Once you get there it's not hard to find but carrying your luggage all the way can be difficult. Had to make 2 trips - good for counting as gym time though.
- excellent room - fantastic atmosphere - great breakfast - very friendly and accommodating staff
- chairs provided in the 'cave' very uncomfortable and not as pictured. Shame, because it made this fantastic room much less usable. - Jacuzzi in Spsa not working, and sauna only 'infra-red' with max. of 60°C
A charming, comfortable, and friendly - though simple - place down from the Piazza del Sedile and within the Sassi Caveoso. Unforgettable views of the Sassi. Staff will do a lot to help you enjoy your stay. You will feel like in a different world. Peace and quiet that you rarely find elsewhere. Simple breakfasts, good wine, and they will advise you which restaurants to go to for a really good meal.
"You can drive to within a few meters from the hotel to offload your luggage" was a huge - how should I call it? - overstatement. You have to negotiate long and steep stairs going down right into the Sassi Caveoso, and with suitcases that can be a challenge. The staff will help you - both when checking in and checking out - but those with any mobility issues should beware.
The location was great; in the Sassi; good day walks; excellent restaurants just minutes away; quietly situated away from the main pedestrian venues.
I thought the use of the spa price was quite high considering we were staying in the most expensive room; charged per person to use the spa although we were a married couple staying together in the same room. The jaquzzi was not hot enough.
We wanted to sleep in a cave while in Matera, but we really didn't comprehend the Sassi. Our room and the Reception put us in a cave--a very comfortable cave--but a cave, nonetheless. It provided a centralized location from which to explore the Sassi. We had to park a couple of blocks from our room to get free parking, but the staff actually drove our car and parked it for us. Every staff member spoke English and were more than helpful. We enjoyed our stay and experience immensely.
It wasn't easy to find using our GPS--it almost guided us down a long staircase into the Sassi. A local gentleman who spoke English called the B and B for us and a member of the staff found us and helped us navigate to our room.
A very special hotel with amazing features. The staff were extremely nice and helpful and the location was very good.
Staff is really friendly Amazing location Too quiet to enjoy a relaxing sleep Size of the bed Melon juice with breakfast
The breakfast could have a bit more of a variety, but I cannot complain.
Spacious, clean and bright (for a cave!) suite in a boutique hotel, wonderfully placed halfway down the Sasso Cavioso - ie between the main street in the centro storico and the bottom street of this Sasso. Andrea's recommendations for eating were fantastic.
Very hard to find and can't get the car close enough to avoid lumbering suitcases up and down a lot of steps. But if you want to stay in the heart of the Sassi you have to expect this and Andrea carried one of our suitcases down and organised a young, fit Guiseppe to take them back up, which he is happy to do for a very modest tip.
The room was decorated with a lot of taste The staff and owner were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to look for a restaurant we could go to that same evening at 10pm The location is excellent
The bathroom is not very well isolated from the room itself
Great room and great service
Long walk from the car to carry the luggage
The location is great, very helpful staff at reception - informed on all places worth to visit as well as cafés and museums etc
Everything was great
Beautifully restructured sassi with all the luxury. The staff is very friendly and helpful to design the perfect 1 day discovery tour of the city. Very close to all the things you must see.
Stunning location. Great breakfast.
No parking but can't be helped given the location. Had to rely on gps to find the place. again this was part of the charm of matera.
Location, decor, cleanliness, breakfast, staff. Everything!
We stayed for 2 nights in this B&B and it was just perfect. The location (once you found it) is perfect, to explore the Sassi, rooms are clean and well furnitured, breakfast was good and staff very friendly (valuable recommendations). Each room got its own WiFi router. We had a pleasant stay and if we ever come back, we would stay here again!
It was a very charming place with wonderful and helpful staff. We enjoyed staying in the Sassi and experiencing culture of old. I would suggest bringing a small luggage bag as you must go up and down lots of stairs. That being said I would give the place an A and would definitely stay again.
It took us 2 hours to find.
Location was fantastic to immerse into the rich layers of this historic region.
The entire bathroom floor grades from the exterior wall to the entry door. The shower pan needs to be completely re-done. There is NO slope in the shower for the drain to collect the water. The water from the shower flows directly out of the shower enclosure, across the floor to the 3 steps leading into the great room/ bed room. Wet tile floors are an extreme safety hazard.
Location was very nice, and room was so unique. When we arrive, the storm came but the one of the stuff came to pick up us with umbrella. Very kind stuff.
The shower Drainage was not good.
