Well, as one is dreaming of a lovely place to stay waiting for them...you get to a haphazardness entrance way that leaves one millimetre on either side of your vehicle. There are plenty of marks indicating the difficult of the both sharply angled and narrow entrance and the damage it has caused to other cars. That is the beginning. Then, you park, relieved you made it through. You haul your luggage over gravel to the door of the inn. When you arrive, all seems well as you are greeted by a man in a cozy and luxurious office. He is in a hurry because he closes hotel at 7pm or 8pm (so if you need anything or have a question, that is just too bad). He welcomes you and assigns your room....in the 'dependence' or guest house....you think you scored big..maybe a private room...well, think again.
You go outside of the door, to the right, he explains that one has to use a key to reopen the gate your car passed through (you are lugging your luggage the whole way), then he leads you outside of that property wall, to a neighbouring gate near two large garbage bins (industrial sided ones). There, he explains how to use key number two. After you enter, he explains that you cannot park your car here. You go to door number 3, where he explains how to open that one. That one opens to a hallway which resembles more a hostel than the photos you saw on the site. Then you reach your room door...Key number 4 comes out and you are in. It is more modern, more spartan, and more ikea than you ever imagined. Nothing wrong with that, you were just expecting tuscan villa...not dorm room. He referred us to a restaurant that was 'just around the corner', but two kilometers (on foot-in the rain) later you realise that his distances may be a bit off. Then, you return, using three of the four keys he gave you, and go to bed, all ok there.
I liked the location. I liked the price. It was available. I liked the photos, I liked the idea of staying in an old villa in Florence's center. We were going to work at the hospital which on the map looks very close by. I liked the breakfast room. The breakfast was OK too. I liked the water pressure as well.
