a wonderful place with so much to do - the sacre monte, lots and lots of historic gardens, in walking distance the Villa Panza with amazing art and gardens - have lunch there it is fabulous. Also just staying by the pool with its views is amazing it's a shame it closes it 7pm - it really warrants longer hours.

Despite traveling to Italy yearly, I had never visited Varese until now. I was initially hesitant to stay in Varese since I needed to be within an hour from Milan for the Salone del Mobile, but I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the city. Varese was vibrant both during the day and at night, with a plethora of excellent restaurants and cafes to explore. Its proximity to the stunning lakes of Como and Varese was also a huge plus. The sight of the snow-covered Alps provided a picturesque backdrop that made Varese even more special. The charming cobbled streets in the city center were lined with pretty buildings that showcased the history of the area. Although we only stayed for two days, I could have easily extended my stay for a week or more.

Varese is a great location for "lake hoping", where every day we saw a different lake. I recommend two restaurants: The Hotel Colonne and La Vecchia Varese. Both have excellent and authentic food, with friendly staff and wonderful service.

We traveled to Varese for 3 days to see the Sacro Monte located a few miles outside the town - part of a self guided tour of these unique sites in Lombardy and the Piedmonte. We ventured into the old town in search of a restaurant one night which was pretty frustrating - mostly bars and fast food in that area, so we ate at the hotel the other nights. The town is a mixture of beautiful older Italian villas and awful 1960’s and ‘70’s apartment buildings - kind of a hodgepodge. The areas in the hills around Varese are lovely with beautiful views.

We were passing through.
We were passing through. By bike we made a great tour into the mountains. Varese itself is not too interesting: just a rich-peoples city with good restaurantfacilities.
You can visit the lake(s) for a swim, you can bike and walk in the mounrains.
Very nice restored hotel with a lot of charm, very friendly staff and good service, good breakfast and excellent restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, great view from the terrace and certain rooms.
Be aware that you're remote on a hill above Varese, but that's what makes this place special. Nice surrounding area with a lot of possibilities for hiking, etc..
Visiting Varese and traveling by train and bus/cable car is possible and quite easy, even with luggage (hotel helps with timetables).
The hotel is not in the centre, but there is a bus stop nearby. The staff is wonderful, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Great and varied breakfast, from cereal, walnuts and almonds, to fruit, eggs, cheese & meat and bread and sweet pastries and cakes. The hotel also has a restaurant on site for lunch and dinner. Large and spacious room, comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Excellent WiFi. I would definitely stay here again.
We motor to Umbria spring and autumn and have done for the last twelve years (excluding the Covid years). We now always stay at The Palace Grand Hotel Varese because of its position (just over the border from Switzerland) but also for the large rooms, the excellent restaurant and its willingness to accept pets (we have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that travel with us).
It’s a nice hotel, with decent rooms and SPA. the SPA is rather small considering the size of the hotel but well conceived, can get crowded easily. Breakfast was nice with good variety. The location is fine, close to the city and Lake Maggiore. However Lake Varese is practically unexistent and the hotel is close to a busy road. Satisfactory overall for the money spent.
Owner of the property "Francesca" was very kind. She communicate very well and help us with everything. She recommend what to do, where to go, what to see,.... The accommodation itself has pretty romantic view on the city center and mountains on background. It was big enough for our family with kids and clean. It was also well equipped apartment. Everything was there.
Extremely clean, well organised with secure parking! Came here on the motorbike and the hosts went above and beyond my expectations to make us feel comfortable and welcome! They recommended a local restaurant and the food was 10/10!! Have already started to recommend this hotel to my friends and family!! Will definitely return!!
We have stayed at the Art Hotel several times on our travels and always enjoy it. This time our evening meal at the restaurant was exceptional. During our travels, this was the best meal of the trip. Comfort and proximity to the town are excellent. Thanks again !
An elegant hotel from a bygone era. Large comfortable rooms and our dog was welcomed (accept in the dining room). Drinks on the terrace and room service, both delicious. Breakfast was varied and delicious.
It was in a good location- A few minutes walking into restaurants and shops. The reason that we were there was visiting family and the hotel that we preferred was closed for renovations
The hotel in general was very decent. We stayed for a night on the way home to Zurich, we enjoyed our stay.
Parking, environment, the zone in general - everything was good
Beautiful modern apartment right in the center of town. Hosts were very good to work with. Well stocked with many extras Free parking garage on site convenient.
