In the hills of the Chianti wine district, this 15th-century villa is now a 4-star hotel with swimming pool, tennis court and Tuscan restaurant with terrace offering panoramic views.
Score from 338 reviews Excellent
Dating back to the 11th century, Leon Bianco is in Piazza della Cisterna, one of San Gimignano’s main squares. During the summer, breakfast is served on the quiet, relaxing terrace.
Score from 619 reviews Wonderful
A great base to discover Tuscany, this new, 4-star hotel offers an excellent location, with stunning views of the medieval city of San Gimignano and of its countryside.
Score from 292 reviews Very good
Just 3 miles from San Gimignano, Le Terre Rosse is close to the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrim route to Rome.
Score from 368 reviews Excellent
Hotel is situated near Volterra, on the road to Casole D'Elsa after about 12 km. Nice room, bed was a bit rickety, but overall OK. Friendly staff. Breakfast was OK, room clean. Hotel is located as a good starting point to discover central Tuscany, very close to S.Gimignano and Siena. We had dinner outside in Casole, very good restorants.
No WiFi connection or very bad connection. We went also to Elba one day, but you need about 1,5 hours to Piombino, so I would not recomend to stay here if your target is coastal area. Hotel is very difficult to find as there are no signs on the road from Volterra.
The personal service and the view
There was nothing I didn't like
We loved the pools and the gorgeous view from the grounds. The kids enjoyed the small playground in the garden and ice creams available via the pool snack services. The staff members were very helpful when we got lost in our travels to the hotel and assisted us in changing rooms after a hiccup in accommodations the first night. The restaurant was a bit pricy but very delicious after a long day on the road and frankly we just wanted to swim and relax after traffic and travel and this allowed us to enjoy a slow evening with gorgeous views of the tuscan hills. Some of the rooms had gorgeous yard loungers for relaxing open air in the private veranda as the photo descriptions show. This hotel has such awesome potential. But the views and pools make one look past the hiccups.
The photos of the available rooms show a romantic room with rich details in bedding and gorgeous loungers on the porch overlooking the tuscan hillsides. We had a plastic table and 4 plastic chairs. Also, the room's bedding was a little worn and old which was no where near the standard of photograph. The first room had an issue with mold in the bedroom, but the staff came quickly to rectify this. The gorgeous rooms exist and hopefully the hotel will supply all rooms with such lovely outdoor furniture and lush bedding in the future. The bathroom by the pool needs maintenance therefore the lobby bathrooms were in its place. Some of the spa facilities were also not in operation (ie hot tub and waterfall/cold pool area). The checkout process was also a bit of a surprise as the price of the room only covers the queen bed and not those of the children per bookings description even though the children were annotated during the search operations on bookings. Not sure where the confusion happened but we as the customer ended up paying the supplement price per child/ per night for each bed despite the "best price guarantee" by bookings for a family of two adults and two kids.
Amazing location in the middle of Tuscany; comfortable rooms and delicious breakfast; very friendly, helpful staff; many thanks to people working in the reception; we will definetly return there
Very good food and value for money
Superb location, the staff were very helpful and friendly, even providing me with a book to read! The room was very clean and the restaurant where we had breakfast was well stocked with copious cups of hot tea, cappuchino, latte etc and the choice for breakfast although continental was ample. The pool was spotless and the view stunning.
Didn't like coming home!
Spacious room large bathroom with tub/shower Nice Tuscan countryside views Staff was wonderful (when not hounded by the owner) Indoor pool was warm parking on site Breakfast a little better then standard Italian offerings
Hot tub closed Owner was pushy- wants everyone to eat at her restaurant only; also speaks to her employees in very degrading tone which ruined my taste for the hotel in general. Staff isn't allowed to give referrals for local places, etc. Don't expect concierge service here. Many mosquitos and a spider in room upon arrival. Virtually no WiFi and none in rooms without up charge. (We were advised NOT to pay because even the room WiFi was mostly unavailable.) Rooms are NOT soundproof, as advertised. Waxed bathroom floor was a slipping hazard. Our children nearly fell when walking into the bathroom. Breakfast eggs and bacon were tasteless but present. Cappuccinos from the bar are bad. The machine is better, though also bad quality. Felt the spa services were overpriced.
This hotel is great. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable with a perfect bathroom. The private balcony, overlooking a beautiful garden is also great for relaxing. The thermal pool is sensational, ensuring the fun even with the cold weather. The hotel restaurant is great, offering a menu with the best of what we eat throughout our trip in Italy (Without mention to wine - simply divine) Finally, we cant forget to praise the excellent staff, among which, Alessandro was extremely helpful and gentle. Definitely recommended!
Everything is great!
Idyllic location in the Tuscan countryside Spacious rooms with great views Much improved breakfast since last visit Choice of indoor/outdoor pools Very helpful and knowledgable staff Close to major attractions
Air conditioning still unreliable - centrally and somewhat arbitrarily controlled
The complimentary glass of wine upon the arrival.
Difficulty to find information about the location.
The staff are superbly nice people (we had a problem with our reservation which they had no fault at all and still were tireless trying to help us with working things out). The room had a huge bathroom and the hotel's view is the typically beautiful tuscany green. The breakfast is also good.
I have nothing to point out.
Friendly staff and delicious food.
Closed spa and noisy young group.
The hotel staff was great and the facilities excellent. I recommend it highly.
Breakfast was very good but the options limited.
