The Apulian capital Bari has been known for its port since Roman times. Nowadays there are 2 harbours: cruise ships and ferries to Greece and Croatia depart from the new port, while the old port shelters fishing vessels.
Between them is a seafront road bordering the real attraction – the old town. Narrow, cobbled streets lead under arches to hidden piazzas with pavement cafes. Many are on adjoining Piazza Mercantile and Piazza del Ferrarese, where the old Roman road is exposed.
The imposing 12th-century Norman-Swabian Castle guards the west of the historic centre, and the simple Cathedral of San Sabino is from the same period. Equally understated is the Basilica of St Nicholas, housing relics of the saint. Pope John Paul II once prayed there, which may have given rise to Bari Airport’s name: Karol Wojtyła Airport.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the meeting point of the old town and the Murat district, built under orders of Napoleon’s brother-in-law. Facing each other across this street are the colourful façades of the municipal office and Piccinni Theatre, though most prestigious is the Petruzzelli Theatre opera house.
Booking.com’s Bari accommodation includes luxury hotels by the Fiera del Levante, cheap city centre apartments, and B&Bs near the train station. For families, the slides and swimming pools of Bari Acquapark make a great day out.

coming to Bari on Friday night was probably not a very good idea, but we found accommodation easily. The flat owner also took care of parking the car for us. The city has its charm even on a Friday night if you sit outside in a pizza restaurant and typical local songs are played and the cook comes out with pizza dough in his hands and sings along with the performer. Awesome.

The city is an excellent starting point for exploring Puglia. You can visit Lecce, Polignano a mare, Matera and other cities by train.
The town has a beautiful, long promenade along the sea.
The food is excellent. Octopus sandwiches are the best. You must try all types of panzzoritti.

Bari is a beautiful port city.
Bari is a beautiful port city. Well connected with other smaller towns and bigger centers, it's very vibrant place with a great cultural patrimony, beautiful and quite long lungomare (sea side promenade), excellent and affordable food. The people are kind and friendly. Also a great place for shopping. If you are looking a great place to explore history, culture and food, that's a place to go.

The city itself not extremely interesting.
The city itself not extremely interesting. The historic center is nice but the rest of the city is a random place. The people are nice, the parking in the city center is a nightmare try to use public transport or walk. The seaside is really nice.

Bari is not very charming.
Bari is not very charming. It is a good transfer destination to the surrounding cities. I recommend buying train tickets online, but you also need to check in before the ride. It is better to rent a car to places like Matera or Alberobello. We also visited Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Locorotondo and Lecce.

Bari is a great medieval seacoast town in Puglia.
Bari is a great medieval seacoast town in Puglia. The train is easy to walk to and provides good access to other places in Puglia for day trips. There are many restaurants, churches, shops, and a modern city adjacent to the historic center of Bari. We also visited and stayed in Monopoli, Lecce, and Alberobello, and the ancient city of Matera in nearby Basilicata.
There is nothing here to critique. The Murex experience was the best we have ever encountered in all our travels. They are unique and dedicated, no comparison to any B&B we have ever experienced throughout our travels in our home country Ireland, Europe and or Italy.
This has an exemplary feel of a Hotel, mixed with agriturismo and a heart warming welcome from long lost friends that will guide you through your Bari adventure. Truly an incredible experience. Thank you so much Alice & Antonia
We (me, wife and son) was in Bari on August on one week. Very good room (nr 2) in the center of Bari. We are not a typical tourists who likes hotels & luxury. We needed place to sleep and thats it . That was good choice. We had a big room looks like monk's room :) every thay we went to Italian breakfast (croissant & coffee/juice). I met owner and she is very kind and helpful. On the night was very noisy, but we was in Italy (Italians speak loudly). Thank you for everything.
Everything was perfect. The location of the hotel is probably the best in Bari - we enjoyed breathtaking sunsets from our room :) We even got a free room upgrade and our rooms were with a sea view. Staff was very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good too - I will miss the amazing sea view from the restaurant every morning. :) Finally, the rooms are equipped with everything you might need for your stay. If we travel to Bari again, we will definitely stay here again.
We stayed at Suite Torre Arcobasso in late May, a family of four renting both apartments. This is an amazing historic building, with exceptional features, very comfortable and nicely furnished apartments at the best location in Bari. Can only recommend! Alesandro was simply a great host, met us in person despite we arrived late in the evening and went out of his way to answer all of our questions and make our stay perfect.
Hotel is amazing! it is ex Sheraton, luxury, great rooms spacious, comfy beds, great breakfast and coffee (continental) hot drink service at the table during breakfast! Super nice staff (reception / cleaning / restaurant) chillout music in the bathroom! Great SPA area (free) Free Airport Shuttle! Is the best hotel in Bari, guaranteed you do not find better / more fancy. We highly recommend this hotel!
The location is a bit outside of Bari, but it’s perfect. I would not want to stay closer to the center, it’s too chaotic. It has it’s own parking, which is a luxury in Bari and I was really happy about this. The hostess is lovely and very helpful with tips of what to visit around Bari. Our room was newly furnished and a great size. Look no further, it’s the place to stay in Bari!
This is a perfect b&b for a city break, especially if you want to be close to Bari Central Train station. Everything else is also within easy reach. the old town, the shops, the port and the beach. despite being so central the rooms are really quiet and cool (I was there during a really hot spell). The staff are friendly and helpful…it’s the prefect city - break hotel.
We had a great stay in Bari at CConforthotels R&B Suite&Chic.
Our room was superb - size / bed comfort / bathroom.
We even had two separate balconies on different sides of the room.
The location is great - at the edge of the 'grid pattern' and only 5 minutes walk from the edge of the old town.
Train station 10 minutes walk away and Ferry Terminal no more than 15.
Excellent location opposite Bari Centrale station and only a 10 minute walk to the old town. My room was spacious, modern and clean. Plenty of fresh towels were provided every day which I liked as I sometimes find at other hotels not enough towels are provided.
The pillows were the most comfortable pillows I've ever experienced!
I stayed in this hotel for one night as a layover in Bari and it was everything I needed: very close to the station, comfortable bed, kind and helpful staff, really good breakfast. The old town was about a 15-20 min walk away so quite easy for a dinner out. Good value for money!
it had a at home type of energy. it was great for me. I really enjoyed this space. the owners were phenomenal. Best stay I had they showed us around took us to some amazing places for a small fee. the sites was worth every penny. Bari is now one of my top three places in Italy.
Everything, location is superb, 10min from train/bus station and the same from city center.
The staff is polite and kind.
The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable so we slept like babies.
Breakfast one of the best in Italy so far.
For me it is a 10/10 hotel.
Very nice stay at the Nicolaus Hotel! Very friendly hotel. Pleasant and attentive staff! A big thank you to Paolo, the best bartender in the hotel!! He will give you very good advice on the choice of cocktails but also on the places to visit around Bari. He is the best!
Wonderful, cosy apartment in the heart of Bari's old town. Helpful, welcoming owners, great location, interior decorated with taste. So much better than any generic hotel! Staying at Casa di Giò is a fantastic way to experience Bari.
Historic building in old Bari….great walkable location near restaurants and historic sites. The best part was how helpful and nice Roberto was. The breakfast was unbelievably good and plentiful. Very comfy bed.
the hotel is perfectly located, near the Pinacoteca, with a wonderful seaside view. Design is colorful and elegant, and amenities are from Etro, a luxury Italian brand;
the heated pool on the rooftop is a must
A wonderfully decorated apartment in the centre of Bari. It looks really luxury.
A host kindly prepared us some snacks, coffee, milk and water in the fridge.
