Badia a Coltibuono  

I loved theloction. I would happily come back to Italy just to go to Badia a Boltibuono. Like all family run businesses there is that something extra. The gardens are beautiful, the view from our room down the valley was lovely, the restaurant provides top class food. I thought everything was perfect. It didn't offer luxury but it was a delightful experience and I can't wait to go back.

the bathroom wasn't terrific but very few old places have good bathrooms.

The setting was beautiful. The service was so friendly and the restaurant was very good value with a delicious cuisine

A former monastery that has an amazing history. All very interesting and a beautiful setting. Staff is excellent and Francesca and Andrea very helpful and offered great suggestions of things to see and do in the area. I would highly suggest that you take the tour and wine tasting offered of the property. It was very inforrmative and gave us a good understanding of property. We would also recommend the Badia Restaurant. Excellent food and beautiful ambience. Most guests ate there every night and non-guests do drive just to enjoy dinner there. A very special property. I didn't do the cooking school because it was not offered during our 3 night stay, but the kitchen looked wonderful and many of the guests staying were taking the course on the day we were leaving.

Unfortunately, the weather was a bit rainy and cold while we were there so we couldn't do the hikes or enjoy the beautiful gardens and pool.

I loved the beauty all around. The cooking school was terrific. I had friends there at the cooking school for a week about 5 years ago.

Three words: The best ever. Hospitality, beauty of surroundings, food, wine tasting, unusual place - everything is on the most high level. It will be wish of our souls to return. I recommend it to everybody with all my heart.

The abbey itself is spectacular, immaculately maintained and preserved, including the wine cellar, gardens and church. The location is breathtakingly tranquil and serene. The restaurant was excellent, and the room we stayed in was beautiful. The staff is pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast is quite lavish compared to the big cities like Venice and Rome. It is an easy and picturesque drive from there to San Giminiano, Siena or towards Montepulciano.

Perhaps the only suggestion would be to have a staff to manage the luggage from the entrance up to the rooms and back .

Amazing setting in the hills just outside Gaiole in Chianti. Beautifully restored abbey with a magnificent chapel and gardens. Staff were very polite and friendly.

We found the rooms slightly disappointing. Although perfectly clean and comfortable, they were like any other hotel room, retaining little of the original character, which is so prevalent everywhere else.

Beatfull place. Very good swimming pool.

Surroundings including the historic buildings and the countryside. The breakfast was fabulous, the restaurant was amazing. The pool was a wonderful addition.

Staying at a 1,200 year old Abby was exciting and central to the beautiful Chianti area. The Abby wine is outstanding and the staff very friendly and helpful. English is spoken as well as Italian. We loved our stay!!!

Rooms do not have air conditioning, so can be a bit warm during the summer. A fan is provided however. Do not let this inconvenience stop one from staying here. The Abby is a stay of a lifetime, and highly recommended!!!

This historical estate enjoys a beautiful setting in the Chianti hills with a lovely, well-maintained garden area to stroll around and pool area is that is very unique. Well set back from any main road, the long driveway makes for a good walk and is engulfed by tall trees and vegetation. Friendly hotel staff. Service at the restaurant for dinner was excellent, along with the views.

The charming rooms could certainly benefit by having a comfortable chair in which to sit and read. There is no wi-fi in the rooms nor television to watch. Wi-fi area in public space had very limited range and had 3 basic desk chairs. The owners could help its guests by making a bit of a simple investment of nicer seating arrangements to improve the comfort and enjoyment of a nice building. There is a nice, largely unused library area, which would be perfect to utilise for wi-fi. Whilst I enjoyed my evening meals at the restaurant, I found the nouvelle-italiane style to be a bit uninspired, with perhaps too much emphasis on technique and presentation v. developing unique and robust flavours for each dish. Great to experience once, but bored by it all for my second meal there. Food was good, but nothing to write home about.

Incredible site And guests get full access to grounds and gardens. A worthwhile experience.

Facilities aren't exactly luxurious and our room was situated over water pump which hummed on and off all day and night. Guest area is sort of spooky at night but still very fun place to stay. Breakfast at the b&b isn't good.

The Badia a Coltibuono was an experience like no other. Nested away in the beautiful hills of Tuscany, the peace and quiet of the former abbey was a relaxing retreat. The rooms (former monk's quarters) are extremely large and accomodating. The restaurant was world-class, from the variety and quality of the food to the service of the staff. Cannot wait to return.

O hotel é um mosteiro do século XI, muito bem mantido e com uma atmosfera excelente. Foi o primeiro lugar a produzir vinhos na região de Chianti. Tudo ótimo.

O local é realmente muito bonito, com um jardim e uma vista linda! Bom, para ficar um pouco afastado da cidade e junto à natureza. A paisagem da pequena estrada do interior da Toscana para se chegar ao hotel (cheia de parreiras, oliveiras, castelos...) é muito bonita. Foi uma excelente opção para irmos de Firenze à Siena, fincando no hotel. O restaurante ao lado do hotel é excelente, e o café da manhã muito bom. O fato de não ter ar-condicionado não prejudicou em nada, pois o clima é bem fresco (fazia um friozinho a noite) em junho. A falta de tv e internet no quarto também não foram itens que fizeram falta. Nosso quarto era bem grande (os quartos eram ocupados antigamente pelos monges) e tinha aquecedores. Toda a decoração é bem rústica e de época. O tour gratuito para saber a história do local e produção de vinhos é interessante. (The place is really beautiful, with a garden and a beautiful view! Good to get a bit away from the city and close to nature. The landscape of the small road of the Tuscan countryside to reach the hotel (full of vineyards, olive groves, castles ...) is very beautiful. It was an excellent choice to go from Firenze to Siena. The restaurant next to the hotel is excellent, and the breakfast very good. The fact of not having air conditioning will not fumbled anything, because the weather is quite cool (put in a chilly night) in June. The lack of tv and internet in the room were not items that made lack. Our room was quite large (the rooms were formerly occupied by monks) and had heaters. All the decoration is very rustic and vintage. The free tour to learn the history of the place and wine production is interesting.

Não tinha ninguém para carregar as malas, sendo que se tem de subir escadas para os quartos. (Had no one to carry the bags.)

La struttura è molto bella e lo staff è molto cortese e disponibile. Menzione particolare per Alessandra che prepara un'ottima schiacciata e fantastiche torte.

La cordialità e gentilezza del personale nonchè la struttura con alto valore storico e charme.

Probabilmente nulla di rilevante.

Un luogo silenzioso, tranquillo, curato e pulito. Personale accogliente, bella atmosfera.

Das Restaurant ist spitze - tolle Küche. Morgens schon frischen selbstgebackenen Kuchen, gute Frühstücksauswahl. Einmal im Kloster schlafen ist ein tolles Erlebnis! Sehr nettes Personal.

Im Vergleich zu unseren anderen Unterkünften war kaum persönlicher Kontakt da, was wir sehr schade fanden. Aber das war auch nur eine Kleinigkeit.
