Score from 996 reviews Good
Lift didn't work. No help from staff with luggage up 4 flights. Air con controlled by reception. Leaked badly, wall soft and mushy, unhealthy. Breakfast uninspired
Charming belle époque lobby (and somewhat in the rooms) Slept decently, quiet Very convenient next to train station
Wifi is only in the lobby and you have to pay for it. I also didn't get reception on my phone in the hotel. A little frayed around the edges, nice but nothing super special--you get what you pay for, so for a budget hotel in Venice this was totally fine but it wasn't an incredible place
I was a bit worried about this hotel having booked before I read the reviews! But was pleasantly surprised, staff were fine and not at all rude as some reviews suggested. Location excellent and interior decor great especially the breakfast room
The layout of buffet breakfast doesn't work well for the staff and all abit hectic as we arrived at breakfast the same time as a coach party. A bit of patience required before we were able to get a table and a coffee
location room commendable staff
wifi is 4 euro per hour!! i
Very close to Venice Santa Lucia station and water bus stop (for transfer to cruise ships). Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. Good breakfast. Rooms average and pricey but that's Venice.
Some reception staff not very welcoming.
Decor was interesting
Location - very close to Santa Lucia station & water bus stop for airport. Walking distance to Per Rialto. Lots of bars, shops & restaurants nearby. Breakfast - tasty warm croissants
Air con machine did not work but made frequent buzzing noise. Our check in could have been friendlier!
the location is superb. the guy at reception in the evening was cool and helpful. the rooms are clean
the man at reception during the day was grumpy and he sold us 7 internet vouchers at €5 each without telling us that there wasn't wifi in the room. the tv is very old and it didn't work. no wifi in the rooms and I couldn't work. breakfast poor quality but nice service.
Easy access to and from train station, pulling suitcases around Venice can be a nightmare, this hotel is two minutes from the station, excellent. As a bonus the restaurants in the area are far cheaper than in the centre. Walking to the centre is a pleasure and doesn't take long but it is best to get purposefully lost so that you see all the small streets, bridges and canals. The hotel is decorated beautifully, the breakfast is OK and the staff are very efficient.
There is nothing we could say we didn't like about the hotel
Breakfast was not bad
Everything else, including an overcharge on my credit card that I'm still working on getting resolved!!!!
There were hidden costs and offered little perks.
Sleeping was OK Cleanliness was OK Breakfast Just 5 minute walking from Venezia SMN
Size of the room
Great location Andrea was helpful Other guy was rude It is unbelievable that they wanted to charge for a map!! Many previous cites before and after helpfully and willingly offered maps of their cities and drew routes to points of interest! Also they are at fault with some immature feud with the Restaurant next door
The location was good and the room and the bathroom were very clean the hotel had a very nice Venison feel to it.the breakfast was good with enough vegetarian options which was great for me
Free wi fi would have been good . The reception staff could have been more helpful
tipical venetian style, nice breakfast, excellent location close to station, in centre
Very small room
Location Hotel decoration Staff of Breakfast
Staff of Reservation desk Shower is very small and one of the door is missed
very bad service, and hotel is not clean, room very micro size, and full of dust inside the room, like they never clean the room nicely, staffs were rude and dishonest, hotel took from us more money of city tax, they took 4 euro of city tax insted of 3 euro per person, we will never come again, and we will not advice this Hotel to anyone,
Location, location, location. Yes, Lista di Spagna is something of a tourist trap, but if you go elsewhere to eat, you'll be OK. Fact is, it's very close to the Ferrovia vaporetto stop, to the S. Lucia train station, and you are not far from the attractions on the other side of the canal. You're in the Cannareggio, which isn't a bad place to be at all. Other than location, the breakfast (they call it a collazione, but it is MUCH more inclusive than a typical collazione) is really quite good. I've stocked up on a full day's worth of calories there- not hard to do. The staff is very helpful and will even patiently speak Italian with you if you want. Not always an easy thing to find in Venice, where most service people will switch to English upon hearing your accent. Or even upon seeing that they don't recognize you. The physical plant is excellent- the lift (located in the back of the hotel) is more than adequate (and fairly new). The decor is, well, Venetian, which means more than a bit of frou-frou, but hey, you're in Venice! But when all was said and done, the reason I selected Belle Epoque is because of my experience in a previous stay (also very positive) and really, the location. I needed to get to Marco Polo for an early flight, and I could walk from the hotel to Piazzale Roma to get the ATVO bus to the airport in less than 10 minutes. One last thought- especially for US readers: the rooms are absolutely fine with regard to space. I read many complaints from fellow US travelers that this room or that is "too small". Sorry, but that's the way it is almost all of Europe. Unless you want to stay at a US chain, that is. If you want to stay at a real European hotel or B&B, assume that the room will be small by US standards. Then again, why would you want to spend so much time in your room that this would matter (unless, alas, you are ill)!!
Just one thing- they used to have wifi in the rooms. Now, you have to use it in the lobby. You still have to pay for it, which is OK, I guess (at 5 Euro, it won't break the bank), but it would be nice to be able to kick back in the room with a connection to catch up on email. I wish they would bring it back. They did say on a placard in the room that there was an ethernet connection in the room, but no cable. Maybe I should have asked at the desk for that- I did see a jack in the room, so maybe that works. This wasn't a huge crisis for me, though, as I spent most of my time at the Biennale anyway.
close to station
very small rooms, no free wifi
The elevator partially services the hotel floors. The rooms are very small, two adults with two medium suitcases had no room to walk. Old mother Hubbard had a bigger cupboard. The front desk staff were rude. The single bed room - don't bother a cell is larger. Over priced. Food quality poor
the staff at breakfast were very kind and the breakfast was good.
the staff at the reception were very bad and not helpful at all. there is no internet, wifi only around the reception and 3 euro per hour!!! the toilet and shower a bit smelly.
Can't think of anything
Unfriendly staff Small rooms Poor breakfast
Location of the hotel, closeness to the station, cleanliness of the rooms and toilet.
Older gentleman manning the reception was not at all warm, for the money paid I guess the room could be bigger, it was the size of a small ibis, at double the price.
the hotel doesn't have a free wifi.
Practically everything was perfect at the Hotel Belle Epoque, the breakfast room was wonderful, the buffet breakfast was nice, the bedrooms were lovely, the staff were pleasant, and the location was great. I would definitely come back and stay again if the price remained competitive.
Not having tea/coffee making facilities nor a fridge in the bedroom, and on our arrival shortly before midnight we had to get the receptionist to change the bed from a double into 2 singles (as was booked).
