The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent for my purpose, as I was visiting the university almost next door. But even for others, the location can be very good, quiet and close to the train and bus station. We didn't use the expensive water buses during our stay because we prefer to walk for site-seeing and even with luggage, this place is easy to reach on foot. The room is in general quite clean and quiet, and everything was functional. The minibar, though we didn't need to use it, was convenient with waters and drinks with almost super-market price.
Venice is an over-priced place in general, so I cannot really blame the hotel for the high price. But the facility can still be improved, e.g. wifi connection could be more stable and the air-conditioner could be less loud. The cleanliness of the towel-rack is not so satisfactry either, it seemed not every bar is regularly cleaned.
The fact that it was not in the very centre of Venice but the centre was still accessbile on foot.
The promise of wifi which didn't in the end work.
Location and roof top room
Close enough to the bus and rail stations to walk, but far away from the crowds. Very helpful, warm staff, that speak fluent English. Lovely breakfast. Vaporetto stop right near by, which connects you to all of Venice. Also, the Alilaguna ferry (ferry to the airport) stops a short walk away. We would gladly stay there again.
The railing that surrounds the little balcony is flimsy so if you are travelling with kids, beware.
quiet real Venice neighborhood. great hosts
a bit more walking to get there but worth it. Breakfast not worth it.
I arrived late at night and the instructions to get to the hotel were excellent. Friendly staff and very clean rooms.
Lucio and Mary were warm, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was great, and free. The room was spacious, the bathroom was clean. Overall, it was lovely. We would stay there again.
The room was a ittle too warm, and the thermostat didn't seem to work.
The room was very spacious, newly renovated and tastefully decorated. The location is perfect, quiet, with easy access to station and water busses. Lucio was extremely helpful in securing skip the line tickets, finding local restaurants off the tourist beat and advising where to go each day. What a win. Breakfasts were great. Will definitely be back given the chance!
Nothing and having to leave!
Compared to other hotel, Ca' Fontanea is relatively cheaper. The room is well equipped. It is also close to the train station and chattel bus stop. We had a great time staying there
-Location: If you don't like too much people buzzing around, this is a nice area with nice bars - Cleanliness: the room was very clean and was tidy every evening Nice value for the money!!
We had a room on the ground level and could hear everything from the room above.
Location excellent, in a quiet and interesting neighbourhood. Walking distance from train station. Easy access and good privacy. Fine place to explore Venice.
There appeared to be no hot water during our stay... perhaps we were just unfortunate.
Nice furniture, breakfast with fresh fruit, neighbourhood is qiet
Bathroom small, stains in the shower, noisy in the morning brause our room was just next to the breakfast room and the walls seem thin.
Good location. Easy to access to the center of Venezia. Also close to Crea water bus station. People were kind and I could feel a good atmosphere like home.
The breakfast was a simple and light meal. Actually, good enough for price.
Friendly staff, good location
The breakfast was quite poor. The shower is extremely small
From check in to check out, everything was great, the food, location and friendliness of the staff. The map offered with check in was very helpful. Easy walk from the Alilaguna dock to hotel. Wifi worked well and its included in the room rate.
Great location - quiet but still close to great restaurants and markets. 2 min walk to water shuttles.
We liked the fact that this was tucked away in a quiet spot on the edge of Venice. It has good connections with a couple of water bus stops nearby and there are a number of good restaurants within 5 minutes walk. We had an annex studio room with a kitchen which meant we could easily prepare our own (simple) meals, handy as eating out every meal can get expensive in Venice.
Super easy to get to from the airport via water taxi (orange line), super helpful and friendly staff (I left my camera cord in the room, and they offered to ship it to my house), super clean rooms, great breakfast, comfortable bed, had no problems with wifi. Overall, SUPER.
It's not in the popular touristy areas like San Marco, but it's an easy 25 min. walk or quick water taxi ride to the other side (we preferred to stay away from the crowds though)
Good location in a cheaper area to eat and drink! Good instructions given to find the property. Air con was a brilliant addition.
Wifi temperamental in room but fine in main hotel building
We stayed here for a couple of days during our honeymoon which I mentioned on booking. Given an amazing room with a roof terrace where we sat in the evenings. Very comfortable & clean. In quiet location away from the crowds but only 15 min walk from train station (2 bridges but 1 has ramp); plenty of water buses nearby. Simple breakfasts but plentiful. Staff v friendly. Free Wi-Fi.
Best to arrive before 1 o clock when reception is open but late entry instructions are given on booking (by entry code); Some may find the steps to rooms a challenge with cases but help is freely offered. Breakfast quite late for some (9-11) but we didn't mind.
Nice airy appartment. Comfortable beds. Walkable to station and Piazzale Roma. Direct boat link to the airport and vaporetto network.
A bit too far from the main sites. No nearby shops. Kitchen needs some attention, as do the two roof terraces. Needs valuables safe. Patchy wifi.
It's in a quieter area of Venice, which was nice, near where there are more locals living, which was nice because we quite unexpectedly found Venice to be a party atmosphere with a Las Vegas-type commercialized feel. The building itself and the area were quite interesting and old for US travelers. The staff was very friendly and attentive when on the premises, and the room was clean. It is fairly conveniently located near a water bus stop and the train station. Interestingly, there was a clothes washing machine in the room (not sure if there are machines in other rooms) that we were told we could use (although no dryer), so if you know of a source to obtain laundry detergent in Venice, and are planning a long stay, this place may be a good option for you.
They say there are things you take for granted in the US that you will unexpectedly find missing in other areas of the world when you travel...all in all, this is no big deal if you are willing to accept this concept and expect to be surprised and just roll with it... As we found in other places in Italy, air conditioners just don't work very well, and ours here was no exception...As an air conditioning service professional, I left the country wondering if there were any competent HVAC service people in the country (as the ACs in France, Greece, and the UK we encountered worked just fine). Additionally, the bed, as we found to be the standard throughout the rest of Europe, was not nearly as comfortable as a typical bed you would expect to find at even a middle-of-the-road type of US hotel property. So, not bad marks for these two items, as they were not atypical for Italy as a whole; but more forewarning for travelers from the US new to Italy and Europe. The only thing that kind of got on my nerves was the staff turning off our air conditioner during the day, which I feel I should be able to leave at any setting I prefer, as a paying guest, so as not to worry about having to come back to a muggy hotel room after a muggy day touring in Venice, in a room that has an air conditioner that already struggles to do its job. This makes for a harder time sleeping, etc, etc, which for us is already tougher when we are traveling. Also, it is worth noting this clever energy-saving method was typical throughout Europe, although the way it was accomplished in other hotels we stayed in was to require the room key to be present in a slot in the room to allow anything electrical in the room to operate. This was the only place we stayed, however, where the staff actually did us the favor of physically turning the room's electrical key off (it was an actual key here that turned everything off in the room).
That is was the attic flat 2 balconies reception staff extremely helpful and accommodating even when we ruined a pan with burnt milk and allowed us to have a shower before we left in the evening. thanks we thoroughly enjoyed our stay
I don't think there was anything we didn't like.
Location is perfect. 7 minutes on food to one of the central streets and on the other hand, located on a quiet Venezia street. Fantastic old building but so tidy and clean.
Quiet location away from the tourist area. Lucio was great in providing information on getting around Venice and recommendations on where to visit. The apartment was very spacious for a family of four and air conditioned. Great value for the money in expensive Venice.
Wi-fi didn't work. Lots of mosquitoes in the room.
