excellent, we were well looked after! it was quiet
Once Italy’s 2nd largest city-state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognizable historic center is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely "passeggiata."
Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.
The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade, where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.
Roman amphitheater remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More sidewalk restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini, the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
Booking.com’s range of Lucca accommodations includes apartments, B&Bs and 5-star hotels. Properties are available near the train station, and some include swimming pools and parking.
Wonderful, so beautiful. The walls are great to walk around with views of the hills. Squares to sit in and have lunch and coffee. Shops . History, churches are stunning, everyone so friendly. Excellent restaurants.

Piazza San Michelle square in our opinion is the best square...
Piazza San Michelle square in our opinion is the best square in Lucca with wonderful cafes to soak in the sun, serving local sweet and savoury food. The square is home to the Taddeucci family bakery who are famous for their Bucellato. Forno a Vapore Amedeo Giusti is also wonderful bakery. Restaurants which we loved included Da Ciacco and the wine bar Enoteca Vanni. Lucca has everything to offer for a four / five day stay (we didn’t get bored that’s for sure!), with lots of museums and beautiful architecture. The Guinigi tower is well worth a climb for beautiful city views and the city walls are a lovely walk especially at sunset, with Mountain views in the distance! There are also lots of wonderful shops in the city and the people of Lucca are very friendly.

Beautiful architecture within the impressive defensive wall...
Beautiful architecture within the impressive defensive wall structure. It was compact enough within the historic centre for one to acquire a familiarity with all aspects of the city within our 8 day stay. All restaurants and cafes that we ate at provided excellent food: there were no disappointments.
Furthermore, Lucca has great public transport links with other areas of Tuscany: day trips were had to Viareggio, Pistoia, and Firenze.

We loved Lucca.
We loved Lucca. Great restaurants, great shopping, fabulous food and little grocery stores so you can cook at home too. Loved walks on the wall and strolling down streets window shopping with an espresso. Going back in 2025 for 3 weeks!

Lucca is the friendly city we visited in Tuscany.
Lucca is the friendly city we visited in Tuscany. It's full of people going about there daily lives as opposed to tourists. Our day trips to small towns in the vicinity were excellent. Osteria de Pasqualino is not to be missed.

Lucca is a beautiful city, easy to get around with a car and park in paid parking lots. Free street parking is difficult and the paid parking was very reasonable. The city is very walkable with lots of beautiful scenery, shopping and restaurants. If you want a specific restaurant it is best to make a reservation. The restaurants are small and usually only have one sitting per night. They open at 7:30 pm and close around 10:00 or 10:30 pm. Some of the Osterias have walk ins available. The pizza, panini and cafes are always open and the food is excellent.
The apartment couldn't have been in a better location and our host Claudia was very helpful with parking and local information. Lucca is a beautiful city and this hotel looks directly into the main piazza, its close to shopping and plenty of restaurants. The apartment is very spacious and the beds are comfortable. In the evening we were worried about the live music playing outside in the piazza keeping us awake, but when we shut the windows you couldn't hear a thing! We would highly recommend!
What a memorable experience. Beautiful building and an amazing spacious room overlooking the gardens [room 7]. Very quiet, just off the main thoroughfare. The owner/ host was an utter gentleman giving sound advice for restaurants and bars. An added extra was a wonderful breakfast sitting outside in the garden. Lucca is an exceptional city and this boutique hotel adds only to its enjoyment. Wonderful.
This hotel is inside the walled city of Lucca and is completely charming. The hotel manager was the best in our two weeks in Italy. We received recommendations on restaurants, a concert, where to rent bikes. All of the staff was helpful. The cook to order breakfast was delicious and delivered hot to the table. We would be pleased to stay again at a future trip.
The small hotel is like a Villa in one of 'the secret gardens of Lucca' in the close hills south of town. You will find a wonderful new swimming pool in this garden. Breakfast is excellent and staff extremely frindly. Mattress perfect, firm but comfortable, in no way saggy. By car you can reach the old town of Lucca in a few minutes.
What wonderful hosts are Maurizio and Laura - we felt welcomed and treated to the best of Lucca. Maurizio's recommendations for restaurant were superb - we dined better than in any other place we've visited in Italy. The location was excellent, kitchen very handy, bath ample, and bed loft was extra comfortable and cozy.
Gorgeous estate in the outskirts of Lucca center. Lovely Italian garden, with camelias, wild rosemary, and frolicking cats (Bianca and Nero). Quiet and charming. Hotel staff is professional, friendly, and will go above and beyond (thank you Gemma and Helena!). Rooms are comfortable with gorgeous views. Highly recommend!
The staff was very kind and very helpful. The breakfast was wonderful, tons of different foods to choose from. I stayed for 3 nights, very clean facility. A big plus was being able to use a bike, provided by the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel. When I return to Lucca I will stay here again.
Beautiful boutique hotel, with a idyllic pool surrounded by olive trees and pine trees, and the sound of cigales (with very nice pool service!)
Everyone was very helpful and kind. We found the place ideal to visit Pisa and Lucca from, and come back to this oasis of calm and freshness in the summer.
Great location in centre of Lucca. Also nearby hotel car parking (best with small car - good luck with a SUV!) Staff we met all very helpful with good language skills for us as non-Italian speakers. Room interesting and reasonably spacious. My wife found the hair drier provided inadequate.
Location within the walls of Lucca but not hard to get to in a car. (Make sure you've given the hotel your car licence plate number so they can put you in the city system that gives you permission to drive within the walls.)
Amazing breakfast.
Really friendly and helpful staff.
Nice decor.
I’ve had the pleasure of staying at this hotel in the past. it’s always clean and comfortable accommodations. the staff is friendly and always extremely helpful. Lucca is a walkable city and this hotel is located just inside the walls. Easy access to everything.
Great value location inside the walls of Lucca. Facilities are basic but comfortable. Bathrooms are outside the room, but you get your own bathroom. Host was very nice and responsive to any questions I had while in the area. Would stay again for sure.
Great location inside the walls!
In walking distance to the Lucca Central Station and all major attractions.
Lots of of shops, cafe's and restaurants in the area.
Breakfast options was great and with many choices.
Lovely boutique hotel located in the heart of Lucca. Walking distance to restaurants, shops and activities. Staff are amazing. Spotlessly clean rooms. Good selection of breakfast items. Highly recommend this gem!
Beautiful hotel boutique in a fantastic location at the heart of Lucca. The room was impeccable and modern, the staff super friendly and professional, the breakfast delicious. Will definitely come back!
The Hotel is small, calm and has all features one would need. It is situated in an olive farm just 5 minutes outside of Lucca. The pool is stunning and the personal is friendly and super attentive.
Staff are super nice, really friendly, very helpful, and the hotel is spotless - there’s a lot of cleaning going on all the time.
Decent breakfast, nice pool, ten minute walk into City of Lucca
The room was beautiful. The bed was comfy, and the shower was surprisingly roomy for Italy. There was a giant refrigerator, odd but cool. It is smack in the middle of Lucca.
