Hotel Castel Gandolfo  

The staff spoke excellent English. We had made a reservation for a 3 person room but the gave us 2 seperate rooms instead at no extra cost. That worked out great. The hotel felt like it had been recently renovated. Good bathroom. Smaller room the I expected but it was fine. Because of the location I had no idea where to park but the staff parked it for me with no cost and had it waiting at the door when I was ready to leave. Great little town.

I had a gps but it was still hard to get to because of blocked and one way streets.

We got upgraded to lake view free of charge. The hotel feels very cozy and small, the staff is very sincere and helpful, and you can feel that it is family run business. The breakfasts are nice and plentiful, nothing beats local cheese selection. The views from the room (all rooms on the lake side have balconies!) are excellent - you can see the lake and the Pope's residence.

Yes, you need to walk a steep path to get to the Castel Gandolfo town and as a consequence, of course, also to get to the hotel. But we actually enjoyed walking (also made a walking tour all around the lake). The hotel is in business for a longer time, so some facilities may be worn down or out of service (for example, in our bathroom the shower did not provide the hydro massage function anymore).

This hotel is perfectly situated in Castel Gandolfo, the one of Castelli Romani's most famous mediaval towns. Romans, sometimes being tired of the sea, often prefer the Castelli lakes - Nemi and especially Albano - for they leisure trips, especially considering it's just a 40-50 minutes ride on car/regional train. That is why Nemi and Albano regions are very popular among locals, both at summer and winter. It's been my second time in Castelli Romani and this is a truly breathtaking and mystic place. It's not easy to find a decent 4 star in that area, but Castel Gandolfo Hotel met my expectations in general. The room with the lake view was good, the only problem we've encountered was the absence of heating (because the heating system malfunctioned that day), but the staff (great people btw!) gave us the portable heater, so it was ok. Oh, and the breakfast is simply marvelous. All in all, I'd recommend this place for a little break from Roman rush.

The bed was very comfortable, and the view was spectacular. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was delicious and very generous. What a perfect location in a great town! And no crowds at the end of July? Lovely.

The light in the bathroom has no off switch--it was a motion sensor so it turned on when you went in, even in the middle of the night. My wife was pregnant, so you can imagine how disruptive that was. The only way to turn it off was to pull the key out of the slot, which turned all the electricity off in the room. Shower head was broken but the man at the front desk grabbed a screwdriver and fixed it. Parking in this town requires coins, and since everyone who visits the town doesn't bring enough coins, the cafes and stores get overrun with change requests. Bring coins for parking.

Castle Gandolfo is a small town with very difficult access. The hotel is not so easy to find - but is well worth finding.

Staff are friendly and very helpful. Location is excellent in small, interesting town. Lovely, lake-side view. Easy train journey into Rome.

Hotel Castel Gandolfo is a family run hotel and has stunning views of Lake Albano. The town of Castel Gandolfo is the summer residence of the Pope and the Hotel is located in historical centre of Castel Gandolfo, one street from the Pope's residence. It is a train ride to Rome for day trips (costs Euro 3.80 return and takes 45 minutes each way). There are wonderful restaurants and great scenery and walks around the lake. What really made our three night stay so wonderful was the delightful breakfasts and the attention to giving excellent service by everyone at this wonderful family run hotel.

Excellent hotel, very good breakfast, kind reception, beautiful and very clean room.

If you like peace and quiet this place is perfect, and the view couldn't be better. The breakfast was excellent - like one expects when in Italy. We'll return to this hotel in future visits to Rome (it's worth the 45min train journey from Termini + hike up from station).

Tiny detail which may bother those who need to check work when travelling: internet wasn't working in our room (second floor). We tried again at reception level, but it wasn't working there either.

Staff were extrememly pleasant and facilitating and did everything to make our stay sucessful.

I have only positive comments to make.
