Sitting at the pool afforded magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. The Castello itself and the property were very nice. Really a near fairy tale setting. The wine tour was very interesting and the tasting was informative and enjoyable. The breakfast was good: love those fresh croissants and pastries.
There was a lack of services throughout the day. No place for a simple coffee, tea or snack. Also the lack of an onsite attendant during evenings was poor.
Stunning location and scenery Fabulous property Excellent staff
Only the fact that there wasn't a village within walking distance, you definitely need a car.
We've spent two days in Castello, location is the best, view is amasing. Very nice ladies at the reception. Room and the living rooms have the atmosphere of real castle, strictly recommended for the romantic trip. Pool has the fantastic view to the hills and the vyneyards. Interesting excursion to the cellars. Castello also has very good restaurant.
The view and the pool is amazing. The room is very large and well decorated. We did a tour of the castello and a wine tasting with Noccolo. Really amazing guy who looks passionate in what he is doing.
Not very good service during the breakfast. The girl is more often hidden in the kitchen than present to serve people. The manager is snobby and not really friendly. Had a lot of problem with the wifi.
You cannot do anything but admire the beautiful elevated setting of this property, surrounded by vines and olives on a working vineyard. Beautiful pool and relaxation areas, with self service 'honesty' payment drinks available. Excellent breakfast.
No permanent reception. When we arrived (within normal check-in hours) there was no one in the office and we had to walk to a nearby building to find someone to help. Restaurant was good on the surface, but service very slow as we were advised they had a large party in - sorry not an acceptable excuse. Suckling pig main dish was more undercooked fat than meat. No one came and asked how the meal was. Shame as the hotel was lovely.
The castle was gorgeous. The views were magnificent. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The pool was a welcome break from the Tuscan heat. The estate wine was very good. The tour guide for the vineyard tour and tasting was friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant on the estate was incredible. We would definitely stay again.
Our stay was too short.
Great staff, very helpful. We were given an upgrade on arrival which was more than expected, room was amazing. Pool facilities were just what the doctor ordered after a long day. This is a fantastic place to stay and explore the wines of Chianti.
The restaurant was only open for one night of our stay and although the food was delicious it did have small portions for the price range. A car is essential to stay here which is not a negative but is good to know in advance.
The castle and garden were lovely. The room in the castle (a suite) had wonderful views and just had a nice atmosphere. The main bathroom was very spacious whilst the additional bathroom was in one of the circular towers with the shower taking a quarter slice of it! The pool was lovely.
Not enough pool chairs for guests to use - a huge party of adults and children occupied the pool the whole day we there which was unfortunate as it was our only 'rest' day during the holiday and there was no where to sit - it was the same problem for a few other guests staying. The big part group did not appear to actually be staying at the hotel as they appeared to just come for the day. Our only other complaint was the restaurant. The head waiter was unbelievably rude and unhelpful. We had booked and then found our table had been given to some other guests - we know they booked after us as their children wanted to play with our son and so changed their earlier plans to eat out. We instead were put in the upstairs room which was unbearably stuffy and unmanageable for me as unfortunately I had temperature. We asked out of desperation, not being really well enough to drive out and find somewhere else, if we could sit outside. The waiter said no and that he was too busy to help and had to get back to work! (He also mentioned a first come first serve basis with downstairs seating which irked us further as this was clearly not honest!). The man in charge of the wine estate eating in the restaurant overheard our comment to the waiter about having to leave and he kindly arranged for us to sit outside. However, it was soon dark and the manager had left, we in turn were clearly punished by the head waiter as we had to wait ages for our meal and had to eat it in pitch darkness! We weren't allowed a candle or any light and in the end just to see where the food was on our plates we had to use my husbands torch app on his iPhone!!
Location, stuff , everything excellent! I will come back.
Just everything. Very high-end leisure, incredibly beautiful scenery, nice swimming pool, delicious wine, cozy and large room.
Probably nothing. Were a bit sorry, that the wine shop closes at 5 or 6 p.m. the latest, so missed the excursion over the place and tasting, but the host was very helpful and sold a few bottles from the reception desk. Was not easy to locate the place in the navigator, but that might be a specific update problem
The castle, location, breakfast, pool, bed
The aircon wasn't very good the room never really cooled down.
The location, the castle looks amazing, nice pool. Good resturant
Wifi hardly works, Air condition works poorly in the room, Doesn't exist in the restaurant (AC)
The staff and the location is perfect!
The castle was stunning as were the pool and the grounds. The wine tasting and wines were fabulous and the restaurant was also great. We didn't want to move! I wish we had longer, or just the two days we had actually booked.
Unfortunately they had over booked for our first night so we had to stay at another property (which they arranged and paid for) but it was no comparison at all to Castello di Gabbiano.
Wonderful views, beautiful grounds, amazing restaurant. Great home base to tour the Tuscan wine country.
Nice location with excellent view. Good food and wine. Beautiful garden and pool. Very nice place to stay!
The bathroom was uncomfortable. We receive a room with bathroom for people with disability, witch is very nice that they have such a room, but for us was very unpleasant. Is unpleasant to take a shower directly on the tile floor because is cold, and the toilet was very uncomfortable.
A real castle; quiet and calm
Catering at the castle itself was not the splurge expected. The restaurant was perfect, though. And the wine tour was too basic.
The pool is superb, and the grounds are amazing. Our hotel room was big, and had a large and very comfy bed. Breakfast was nice, and the ladies who serve it very friendly.
The room we stayed in had only a tiny window at the top of a high wall (it's an old castle, so some forgiveness from this) but did make it very dark, with little natural light, Also, the hotel hosted a wedding when we were staying, we were not told about this until on the day, when the pool closed early and then we had to deal with substantial noise until quite late at night. The facilities are for us the guests to use, not for the owners to double rent out! The on site restaurant serves tasty food, but at a ridiculous premium.
The whole setting was beautiful, a great building with a fantastic well manicured garden all set on a huge vineyard estate. Top quality!
We stayed on a Monday evening and did not realise that the restaurant would be closed. Closest place for dinner is a 10 minute drive away.
Beautiful castle and grounds, expansive views, great location in Chianti region, friendly staff.
Wine is a bit expensive, for the price of the room a free bottle would have been a nice welcome gesture.
Very good food at the restaurant, very good wines produced by the castello. Room was large and comfortable.
Location was breathtaking. Gardens were beautiful. Room was decorated such that it still felt as if you were in a castle. Breakfast was big and delicious. Restaurant was class A quality in food and service. Highlight of our trip.
The area, The landscape and wine were amazing! The room was super clean and the breakfast was great!
The hotel is a converted castle and is absolutely beautiful both on the inside and outside. It is located in the heart of the Chianti region, and on a large hill so the views are incredible. The room was large and lovely. The bathroom was truly unique and beautiful. The Gabbiano restaurant was outstanding and served one of the best meals I've had in Italy. The wine tour was intimate and very informative. Breakfast was enjoyed in the sun on the lawn, which provided a perfect way to wake up in Tuscany.
We arrived in the early evening, and the doors were locked thus we were unable to get into the hotel initially. Our cell phones do not work in Italy, thus we could not call the numbers listed on the sign. We eventually had to use the "emergency" call light to get in later that night. This was a stressful beginning to our stay, but everything was perfect thereafter.
