Castello di San Marco Charming Hotel & SPA  

3We loved the baroque style Castle setting of this hotel, with public rooms decorated and furnished to a high specification in a charming medieval style disguising very good modern facilities. Our accomodation was extremely comfortable and spacious but without fuss or undue opulence. The Gardens are imaginative and pleasant to walk in and are ideal for open air weddings. Nice big pool. We didn't use the spa facility but others told us it was excellent. Mount Etna smoking gently in the background adds to the outdoor experience and a guided tour with a volcanologist is also a very interesting day out. We felt very welcome on arrival with Simone and staff being courteous and helpful.The Bar and Restaurant are both atmospheric and Luca and his staff provide a friendly, informative and fun [if you have a sense of humour] style of service which was a highlight for us. A car is an advantage as there isn't easy access to local amenities but Castello is well placed for organised trips to local fishing villages, Mount Etna and Taormina, an atmospheric town with historical interest and the shingle beach is only 50 yards a away. We stayed for a week and were sorry to leave and are going to try and get back again next year. We would thoroughly recommend it.

No criticisms at all. Its just the sort of place we love. It isn't best placed if one wants easy pedestrian access to restaurants and shops as you will need transport to get to them. But we had a car and travelled during the day and then returned for a swim and a lovely meal and friendly banter each evening.

I've never written a hotel review before but feel compelled to write about how fab' this hotel is. We travelled with our 15 month old son and stayed in a suite. The staff were wonderful with him and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were immaculate and the food divine. We didn't venture out as the hotel provided everything we needed to have some rest and relaxation. All in all I'd give it 4.5 out of 5.

The pool was beautiful, my only complaint is that it was rather cold. This was echoed by other people I spoke to. Also, if you're travelling with a small child, the restaurant doesn't open 'til 8 which was a bit late for us. We did have room service from the restaurant though and the food was fantastic.

A bit far from everything, and hard to find.
