Loved close proximity to important sites if the town and caves

Travelling with my elderly mother who needs aid of walking stick was a challenge with uneven rock footpaths and stairs to climb near the hotel but we enjoyed the experience just the same

We arrived in a torrential downpour but the kindness of the manager and beautiful hotel gave us a sunny feeling. There was a mistake on my booking and the manager thought I wanted one bed. I explained that I was traveling with my adult son and by the time we unloaded our suitcases he arranged a very comfortable extra bed in the room. The room is so unique and took my breath away. We entered a lower level entryway with a cavelike feeling and then up the stairs was a very large bedroom with high ceiling. Even in the pouring rain the view was fabulous. In fact it is one of my best pictures. Double doors open to a nice size balcony but because of the inclement weather we were not able to make use of it. It looked even nicer than the photos on the website. Be sure to request a room with a balcony if available for your dates The morning breakfast was very nice and the lady in charge gave us all the cappuccinos we wanted. We were only able to stay one night but hope to return to this very unique corner of Italy in the future.

Location was great, right in the centre of the caveoso quarter, ideal for sightseeing. The cave bedroom was lovely and spacious.

We initially had trouble finding the hotel (Google map indicates another location) worth checking the exact location before heading off with suitcases on the cobbled streets.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We even got upgraded to the master suit in a real cave, which was very beautiful.

The only thing is that the cave (as you can expect) is quite damp. You can feel the strong smell to humid and the bed sheets and pillows feel damp during the evening. But it was a great experience nevertheless.

Even at a discounted price, due to last minute booking, it was way under par for the price. It is advertised as a 65m2 with a private balcony, overlooking the church at Matera. The balcony, as it turned out, is a common corridor leading to two other rooms. So the even if you pay the extra cost, to enjoy the view at "your" simply are not! Breakfast, was border line acceptable. Coffee was great. Overall, at the published price, or even at a discounted one, way overpriced.

Loved the area and would have loved to stayed a little longer. Rosaria, the lady who served was a delight to deal with and was very helpful. If you require laundry to be done seek assistance from Rosario.

When we booked the room, we thought we we getting a cave room, instead we got a room facing south - pleasant and bright. The man at the reception was unfriendly and difficult.

    Location....sort of

Parking was quite a walk away Our 'cave' needed a dehumidifier to run constantly and to be emptied every 3 + hours. Everything felt damp while we were there. Lighting was very poor

We loved the combination of the traditional and extensive cave room that was the hotel reception, bar and breakfast area, and the more modern bedroom. The hotel is located near the bottom of the Caveoso sassi area and had a wonderful view. The room was clean, comfortable and warm. The bath was a real luxury after a day's walking.

Specific directions not only to Matera (sassi area) and the hotel itself would have been very helpful.

    The location and the view.

Staff was rude we did not get what we expected and the room was over priced for what we got. The sitting room had a smell of mildew which we never used.

Washing machine for guests. Peace and quiet. Pretty and secluded garden. Happy staff.

Nothing to dislike, but the area lacks places of interest, and the beaches are not too good..Better directions on how to find it would help. We also like places that offer an evening meal.

The hotel is nestled into the old city. Our room #2 had a ground floor foyer and large bath, up a flight was a large bedroom with a balcony looking out to beautiful views. The breakfast was a delight due to the hospitable and caring service. Possible to walk to many of the significant sites. Matera is an unforgettable place. There were tour companies with small vehicles that could wisk you around if preferred

Not a problem for us but Matera could be a problem for those with limited mobility as the streets and walks are all stone, very hilly and lots of stairs. Even between the parking area and the hotel there were stairs.

The chap sitting at the front guest made us feel we were a nuisance from the time we arrived to the time we left! We did not feel welcome which was a shame as actually it was a very nice hotel, well situated and the room was good.

The room was spacious and romantic. Geographical situation excellent fot visiting typical sassi and caves. Owner was very friendly, and offered food nevertheless our very late arrival in the night. BreAkfast was typical and very fresh. Local pastries made by local people.

Wifi was not workg in the room, but was temporary. Wifi worked well in lobby and externals. Very humid room , but it is related to the cave it is built in. Nothing one can do about it.

No protein in breakfast. Eggs or yogurt would be better than too much pastery and carbs.

Caveoso Hotel is located in the sassy near the bottom edge of the old town. It is a perfect location for really exploring the sassi and for doing the hikes into the valley and over to the caves on the other side of the gorge. It was quiet and the cave rooms have a unique and wonderful atmosphere. It rained both days we were there so the humidifier in the room was working overtime, but it was still a wonderful experience. We noticed that most tours never made it past the top of the sassi, and because of this the lower and more interesting areas where Caveoso Hotel is located were less busy with tourists.

This hotel advertises room in caves but our rooms we not in the caves. We paid the same price for a normal hotel room, which was very normal. I would not recommend this hotel due to the poor service we received and the false advertising.
