When we first arrived to the lovely setting and a nicely appointed suite with beautiful views over the large garden, we thought Cortona Resort and Spa would become one of our favorites in the region. Ditto when we enjoyed the spacious spa facility and huge indoor/outdoor hydro pool heated to 90+ F which was great even on a cool day. Then we had our first meal in the hotel, which was lackluster - same for breakfast the following morning. Breakfast was mainly a selection of bread items - most of which ended up staying on the menu for our entire three day stay. Literally the ones that weren’t stale on day one had reached that point by day three. On our final night we didn’t want to Taxi up to Cortona (10 minutes) so tried the hotel restaurant again - and the food was again mediocre and the service somewhere between inattentive and downright surly. We were literally the only people at dinner so decided the wait staff just didn’t want to be there and perhaps were hoping the could have closed early had we not arrived. So go for the room and the spa - both very nice - but look elsewhere for food. . . . .

I think Cortona lacks out door eating and calling cafes ....mind you I did visit in January but other cities have outdoor heaters so that visitors or even locals can enjoy sitting out on clear sunny but cold days. Not much option if any if you are wanting to eat between 3 and 8pm ... but finding most places in Italy in the small historical towns are the same. So make sure you either have a late breakfast or stop in time to get some lunch in! :)))

It is a very beautiful medieval city close at the border of Tuscany and Umbria. It is definitely not an easy walk city as there are not so many flat streets. But it is worth it! From Piazza Garibaldi, you could have a very nice view to Tuscany. You find few parking lots around the city but from there you need to walk few stairs to actually get in to the city. The italian ice cream, of course, is unbeatable. I can also recommend Cortona Bistrot. I think I have eaten there one of the best tiramisu. The city is worth for couple of days' visit but the surroundings are also very nice (e.g. Lake Trasimeno).

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona.

The food, the view, the feel of history, I loved Cortona. Cortona is very small, I came in once during a three day stay. Considering that it was 50 euro to drive in to town I would have only came back in for another dinner if I was with a group. Be ready to walk uphill! I walked all the way to the top and then made my way down to eat. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the restaurant I went to but it was tiny with a family feel and the food was incredible

The hostess, Antonella, was charming and so hospitable. We were upgraded to an apt and so appreciated it. The views of the Tuscan countryside are stunning from her property. Swimming pool is well maintained and pristine. Accommodation inside is immaculate and homely. The breakfast is delicious and generous in quantity. Close to several pretty Tuscan villages and Cortona. Great location. Antonella was friendly and gave helpful tips of sights, local restaurant nearby which was superb. Highly recommend this for a base in Tuscany.

The hotel manager’s (Rachele) warmth was a real plus during our stay. The room is beautiful in all its authentic country style charm. Everything was very clean and pleasant. We stayed only for a night to attend a wedding nearby but we couldn’t feel happier of our choice. Definitely recommend to stay here if you want to experience the true Tuscany country side, at a very reasonable price, hosted by welcoming and friendly people.

Jeroen was a really lovely host! We arrived there at night and he spontaneously cooked one of the best Spaghetti Bolognese ever :-) He gave recommandations and booked the next location in Cortona for us - because his house was fully booked the next days. The room was very good as well. And the position of Casa Dreosti in Cortona couldn’t be better: Central and quite at the same time. All in all a great place to stay.

The location is just perfect. One of the best experiences I ever had. The hotel is simple, more like a B&B. The owner, Paola, is just a wonderful person, making you feel like you are at home. The breakfast have some of here own home made bread and cakes. The building, like the whole town, has its own history, built over 600 years ago...

Expecting a "spa" type of hotel, it was disappointing. Not sure if only our room was not good, but shower needed to be replaced. This is not a spa in way one would think. Although, maybe the other areas were updated, but what we experienced in the main building were not.
