Hotel Violino d'Oro is an 18th-century building with traditionally decorated rooms, overlooking the San Moisè Canal. Saint Mark’s Square is less than a 5 minute walk away.
Score from 1104 reviews Excellent
Just 330 ft from La Fenice Theatre and a 5-minute walk to St. Mark's Square, Hotel Mercurio features views of the Barcaroli Canal. It has elegant rooms with LCD satellite TV.
Score from 843 reviews Very good
Opened in 1308, the Albergo Cavalletto & Doge Orseolo is one of the oldest hotels in Venice. It is set right behind St. Mark's Square, and features elegant rooms and a private pier.

Score from 70 reviews Wonderful
Clean, characterful, great location.
No bar or sitting space outside room. One member of staff excellent, one rather off-hand.
The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was exceptional overlooking the canal. The staff were eager to help with bookings and recommending incredible eateries. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
More pillows would have been nice but it was our fault as we didn't ask the staff for extras.
Breakfast is good
Limited space in rooms, particularly bath rooms.
The location in the center of everything. Distance to grand canal and all the shopping, food and taxi/bus stops is a mere few minutes walk from the hotel.
Fantastic location. Breakfast room overlooks a canal. Is located between Rialto bridge and St Marco Square. Great breakfast. Helpful staff - esp. Alessandro. We would stay again and definitely recommend.
No lift so be prepared to carry heavy bags; Hotel quite difficult to find; Bathroom had a couple of steep steps to access. Bed quite hard.
We were given a free upgrade to a room over looking one of the canals...absolutely magical!!!
Great location! Staff was friendly and helpful. We got upgraded to a room overlooking the canal which was amazing. You can see the gondolas ride by with opera singers and music down the canal path which was just surreal. The Venetian style rooms had extremely high ceilings which made the room feel bigger. There was a safe in the room which was useful. Free wifi which worked great. Overall we enjoyed our stay there and would definitely recommend to others. I would absolutely stay there again!
The entrance to the hotel is a bit difficult to find as it is tucked away in a very small street. Breakfast selection was small but not big issue for us as it was included in my reservation. TV is small but who wants to watch tv anyways when you have an amazing view from your window. No elevator as most places in Venice don't so be prepared to lug your heavy suitcases up flights of narrow stairs.
The hotel was not far away from both Rialto bridge and Saint Mark's square and would like to add that the breakfast was really good especially the pitta filled with cheese, tomatoes and olives.
Location,price and staff
Set time for breakfast we could not get a coffee before 8am!
Spent a night here and chose mainly for location. It's a 5 minute water taxi ride and 3 minute walk from the drop off. The location is very central and as long as you don't get lost its pretty close to everything! The staff were friendly and breakfast was great. Rooms are facing a quiet side road so zero noise, which was perfect after the hassle and bustle of Venice!
The staff was really friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good for the price and especially the bathroom was modern.
Our room was a little bit small for two people, though ok for the price and for the purpose of just sleeping and relaxing between some tours through venice.
A nice little hotel, in a great location. Traditional interiors, not a modern sleek hotel, a Venetian experience.
Great amenities, breakfast and atmosphere.
The young woman at the desk was pleasant but not overly friendly.
Location was excellent and staff were friendly would recommend.
Knowledgeable staff, great location, most beautiful room we stayed in while in Europe.
Wifi was slow and intermittent.
Very nice location near Rialto Bridge and Piazza St Marco, close proximity to all tourist attractions and nice restaurants.
To reach the hotel we need to stop at Rialto (water bus) station which is quite far from Marco Polo airport.
- Very good location, main attractions (San Marco, Ponte Veccio) are less than 5 minutes walk away - Easily reachable from the airport boat - Room was clean
- No elevator so you have to carry luggage up (staff offered to carry it up the next day, but that wasn't really an option for us as our stuff was in both suitcases) - Bed we had was a spring based bed. - Shower was tiny (no romantic 2 people showers) - You have to give them the key to the room when you leave
Room was very comfortable, with views over the canal
Sadly, wifi was a problem (not the hotel's fault as it seemed universal in Venice)
Location is excellent Breakfast was good
No lift (we were on the top floor) Staff were disinterested Rooms were outdated (not 'retro', 'quierky' or any other buzzword for ancient hotels) Shower/bathroom was beyond tiny
Very nice hotel, just a short walk from the Rialto bridge. My room was nice and cosy. I really liked the decoration, Venetian style from the 18th century. Breakfast was great.
Room from the window to inner yard wasn't so nice.
Beds and over buliding too old
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Beautiful room full of character. Excellent location. Well air-conditioned.
Staff were very helpful, always available to assist and provide advice and information
Great staff, very helpful. Good breakfast. Staff referred us to a great restaurant. Once you got the hotel location down sites where I'm close proximity.
No lift. Facility is a bit dated.
