Just outside the Castle of Monteriggioni, Albergo Casalta is on Via Francigena in the historic village of Strove. This friendly family-run hotel is set in an ancient Lombard fortress with stone walls. The hotel's interiors have many original features such as wood-beamed ceilings. Guests can enjoy a drink by the fireplace in the lounge, or out in the courtyard in summer. Hotel Casalta is set in the countryside of the Val d’Elsa. Nearby you will find an outdoor pool, tennis courts, hiking or horse-riding facilities and golf clubs. Hotel Rooms: 10

A very good hotel. But be aware of the location - Google maps and Booking.com map show inexact point for Albergo Casalta (as for May, 2011). In fact you should go straight after right turn with the road sign "Casalta" when you go to Strove from Monteriggione road. Don't go anywhere aside the town. We drove late in the dark and spent certain time to find it.

The Casalta was absolutely gorgeous!! The staff were so pleasant and helpful!! My wife caught a cold while we were there and everyone inquired after her health each morning and the housekeeper even drove me 5 km into a nearby town to a pharmacy!! The cooing of the pidgeons and doves that nested around the castle made for a pleasant change from the bustle of Rome traffic. Breakfast was more than adequate with fresh baking daily and an endless flow of delicious cappaccinos!! The location was perfect ... surrounded by olive groves and vinyards. There is a co- op 100 metres away that has a deli and serves lunches (open 6 days a week and lunches on weekdays). The only real complaint is that since there is no elevator, you have to haul your luggage up a flight of stairs. The mosquitoes were a bit of a problem until we bought a plug in repellant "thing". Minor complaints when compared to the wonderful hospitality!!

Very good restaurant and an authentic Tuscan village made this a very nice stay. It's not far from sights and excellent location to explore the Chianti region. Not much in the village. The hotel has the only restaurant and whilst it is nice, the restaurant is a little on the expensive side. Thus travelling required for dinner. But it's a minor downside.

I liked most the location and the price charged. The bathroom was fair. The shower head was not working properly. One could only select cold or hot water; there wasn't the possibility of mixing hot and cold water.

The staff was helpful with our many questions. The room was decorated with beautiful Italian antiques and was truly charming. The breakfast was beautifully presented and the table setting showed great attention to detail. We would definitely recommend Casalta and stay there again. Difficulty to find using GPS.

Fica a dica!

Bel environnement.
