Located in Volterra, 1.6 km from the San Giovanni Baptistery, Hotel Residence Villa Rioddi has a pool with views over the Cecina Valley.
Score from 80 reviews Excellent
The monastery is quaint with Romanesque arches. An excellent place to rest in the evening, and a very charming place to eat breakfast in the outdoor halls around the open courtyard. Highly recommend it for the price. A little outside the city - but no problem with a car - about 8 minute drive.
Beautifully restored 15th C monastery, with ultra modern finishings. Superb breakfast, very helpful staff. The wifi was down during our stay, but that was not the hotel's fault. A good location, not far from Volterra.......really excellent value.
We had dinner at the restaurant run by their sister hotel close by.....mediocre, and we would not recommend it.
Breakfast was delicious!
The pool is not in the Chiostro Delle Monache location. You have to cross Volterra to find it.
The reuse of an old original monastary.
Very friendly staff, good price, idyllic little place.
The only but for me a major let down were the mattresses. They are rock hard and therefore, sleep isn't very rejuvenating. Shame because otherwise fantastic...
Nice athmosphere in the setting of a monastery
Very nice place and very nice breakfast. Staff fantastic.
Second night there was arriving lots of youngsters from different teams of volleyball. They where playing ball in the morning, just a few yards from the breakfast space. The staff made nothing.
The Follow up from the Team
I was charged for No show which is unacceptable having cancelled due to an emergency. Would expect differently.
Its close to the old town. A lot of space for free parking.
Its more like hostel than b&b.
Great base to explore the area, parking, quiet until students arrived, friendly staff
Bus load of young students arrived for 2 nights. Noise level increased!
A little bit far from city
Breakfest was very good. Wifi worked only at ground floor. To the city was about 15 minutes by feet.
The bed was very uncomfortable. We didnt rest after daily sightseeing. Unfortunately this hotel is for one night.
Walking distance from the center of Volterra. Beautiful courtyard. Great breakfast.
Wifi only in lobby area.
Wonderful staff, generous breakfast, very clean establishment and very quiet area outside of city walls. We liked the 20 min. walk to town, but could be too long for some people.
Wifi is not available in the room, but it wasn't a problem to sit in public area and use wifi. Worked well.
The staff were very helpful and had good English. Breakfast was also very good.
Easy parking and access, clean rooms, good and plentiful breakfast. Very quiet.
Cleanliness and very friendly and helpful staff.
A bit cold inside. Outside the city, but still walking distance (20 min).
the location is very good ( if you are able to walk some distance) / car park available / note: when driving up the "hospital area" you are on the right road: hotel is situated at the end of the road
toilet flushed very poorly > reception told us they would take care but nothing was done / heater started on its own in the evening, no possibility to shut it down
We liked the environment and the character of the building, the decoration of the breakfast room, the patio. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Very quiet.
Its location is kind of secluded and we were there on a work-day, so we were one of the two only tenants of a very big facility, which was kind of melancholic.
It may say hostel but it definitely doesn't look like one. The view of the courtyard and bell tower is really beautiful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and it is just a short walk to the town centre. Highly recommend!
We booked for the Chiostro, but when we arrived it was closed and we were referred to another hotel close, called La Foresteria, where we were already expected by the staff. La Foresteria is a very good hotel, very clean, good breakfast and good dinner. As the hotel is far from Volterra walls, we chose to have dinner in the hotel. Internet was free and ok.
Rooms are good and clean, but the walls are very thin and we could hear everything from the other rooms around. As the hotel is a 30-min walk from Volterra walls, I recommend to have a car (in fact, you need a car to visit all the Toscana!).
Beautiful view of Tuscan hills.
Worst pillows in the world. A flashing light on the smoke alarm all night long.
Peaceful location reasonably close to Volterra, which was only a 10 min walk away. Lovely breakfast room.
No nearby restaurant. We ate well and cheaply at the Forestiere hotel, but needed a torch to walk to it.
Accomodation in former monastry, very calm place with very friendly atmosphere. There is nice lecture room with books in several languages and nice atrium with water well, palms and outside seating! Very good breakfest in stylish hall with old fresco.
My room was rather easy, but clean. Wifi only in the reception area.
