During the second world war, the whole town was raised to the ground. Only a few historical buildings were saved, including the Convent of Santa Maria del Gesù, Cenacolo dell'artista Francesco Paolo Michetti on the hills, and Palazzo Turchi (the actual Hotel Claila) on the marina. These two historical buildings were bound by the Ministry of the Architectonic Assets because of their monumental and historical character. After 50 years of neglect the Macerelli family has acquired Palazzo Turchi. They have carefully refurbished the mansion and converted it into an exclusive hotel with the inauguration on the 28 th of April 2004.
Room service is available for a surcharge.
Numerous exhibitions take place in the town during the year including the carnival with its parade, the Michetti prize for painting and the flower exhibition.
The town is situated in the Chieti/Pescara metropolitan area, where the most important infrastructures, industries and commercial centres of the Abruzzo region are located.
Explore the artistic and historical centre which is within walking distance of the hotel:
- Discover the paintings by F.P. Michetti (XIX century) at the local Town Hall,
- Visit the Church of St. Maria Maggiore, with works by P. Cascella and a silver ostensory by Nicola da Guardiagrele.
- Visit the Abbey of St Giovanni in Venere in Fossacesia, one of the most important abbeys of Abruzzo: 17 km.
- Visit the Volto Santo di Manoppello: 20 km.

L'acceuil était chaleureux et très agréable. L'intérieur de l'hôtel est très classe (beaux matériaux, décoration très réussie, beau salon,..) La situation entre la route natioale et les chemins de fer n'est pas idéale mais nous avons quand même bien dormi. |
