We had a fabulous room that overlooked the canal. We spent most of our afternoons on our private balcony enjoying wine and watching the gondolas go by. Very close to everything, but tucked away well enough to escape the crowds. It was perfect.
Nothing comes to mind!
Venice itself is an amazing, beautiful, incredibly historic, cultured and special place to be, especially out of the main tourist horde areas around San Marco. Get away from this area, and in only 15-20 mins you can get away, get deliberately lost, start strolling and suddenly come across a gorgeous local campo/canal and/or little local bar/cafe full of Venetian people to start to get a taste of the real City. This is why we chose Venice to celebrate our wedding/honeymoon and meet up with my elderly parents from the UK so they could attend. The hotel is in a fantastic location, only 5mins stroll from San Marco, 10mins from the Rialto and overlooking the Bridge of Sighs, canal view rooms 201 and 202 (which we were changed to after we complained about room 405). Fantastic chambermaid/cleaning team - bedrooms and public rooms very well kept (Elena/Goia) and very helpful porter Mario. Also very very good laundry service, given how wet we kept getting with the rain/humidity and flooding. Delightful/very pleasant cocktail/bartender and good breakfast selection (although in our second week, this became quite repetitive and the quality of the Expresso coffee making was really very dependent on who was working). Concierges Anjol and Daniele were certainly very helpful, but the service was not at all consistent (hence our scoring) and really depended on who was on - in the end most of them were genuinely willing to help (only 1 rotten egg -see our didn't like comments), Our main problems occurred in relation to water taxi booking (in the end it was easier/cheaper to deal directly with the Taxi driver when we got their business card).
Inconsistent concierge service. who although they generally tried to be helpful, they were clearly stretched but mixed up a couple of important taxi arrangements for our wedding. Also Marco, the concierge, whilst chatty on the phone/counter was very unprofessional - he let us down badly, making (unsought) promises to give us assistance with arrangements with our wedding (at a distance when we were dealing with it in NZ) , which he was (we came to realise) unable to fulfill, he then let us down and failed to apologise. Luckily we were able to find other wonderful professionals/kind Venetians to work with us through our own research efforts. In the hotel itself his loud chatting/giggling with the breakfast staff/other team members and eating his breakfast as he walked through the public rooms of the hotel were also examples of his lack of professionalism. Room 405 - don't be fooled by the clever publicity shots (wooden ceiling/green upholstery in the gallery) - it is very small/cramped/humid (no aircon unit) with a terribly cramped bathroom/tiny half-bath shower and reached by a flight of horrible rickety ship-style stairs up from floor 2. The 360deg views from the balcony are lovely BUT this is reached by a very slippy/dangerous set of wooden steps which need to be refurbished. Some uncomfortable beds and all very horrible thin & hard pillows which need to be replaced. VERY poor WIFI service/connection, poor code/logging in system and 24 hour max usage.
Location is great! Decor good. Assessible-Disabled bathroom needs to have shower damned up (with towels) before use! Some concierges really nice - others...interesting! Breakfast really good, but if you are in the annex you don't get a cooked breakfast.. so try and sneak in to the main dinning room!
mosquitoes.. even in November.. keep windows closed. Not that I minded but check for high tides in Venice in November and December--bring wellies.
Great location close to all the sights
The ceiling was very low and it would be difficult for tall people to feel comfortable in the room
Almost everything..location size of hotel.
The heating on the hotel corridors was too warm for me personally.
very romantic terrific location 'very helpful staff
a bit pricy - but possibly all of venice is a bit pricy
Great locstion, close to san Marco but far enough that it was quiet. Canal view room (#405) was great with private roof terrace
Water pressure, shower kept going cold, staff were quite rude with one person mocking us when we asked for ice
Loved the canal view room.
Breakfast was awful. Included breakfast was not good.... We went out all the other mornings.
Location near San Marco and reasonably quiet.
We were booked in the Annex, where the rooms were very dark; shower tiny (2ft by 2ft), challenging to get in and out, moldy! WiFi inconsistent to put it mildy. Front desk seemed more interested in selling tours than meeting guests needs. Felt like we were treated like second-class citizens. Of the 4 hotels we stayed in our visit to Italy, The Colombia was at the bottom in all respects, below the 3 star hotels we patronized, yet by far the most expensive.
Room in the main building was deluxe with great bathroom when we moved over from Annex. (100€ more per day) Cheerful breakfast room.
Proximity to San Marco is not as asset-too crowded with tourists. Also Annex is 3*, not 4*. That is not indicated when booking. The location is such that a gondola can't reach it during high tide. With luggage you have bridge to to cross. Lounge was too small, dark, few chairs with TV above in the corner.
An ideal base for exploring Venice. Centrally located, quiet, spacious and comfortable with excellent, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Good value for money. Annexe rooms are quieter and more spacious.
Bathroom could do with a couple of shelves and a clothes hook or two as there is nowhere to put stuff
Everything was great..we arrived and our rooms were ready..we were settled in less than 10minutes upon arrival in our rooms...location of hotel to all places of interest was excellent..the staff were friendly and extremely helpful..Marco was excellent..well done and keep up the Good service!!
everything was good.
Although this hotel is a bit pricey, it was probably worth it. The location is outstanding - very short walk from St Marks, great restaurants and shopping. Not a long walk to everything else in Venice. Staff was very helpful and made arrangements for us for boat rides, trips to Murano, etc. Décor is classic (older) but no complaints. Very clean and comfortable. I assume it compares favorably to other hotels, but not sure. Buy a Venice street map when you arrive in Venice in order to find the hotel while walking.
Older décor, but not dirty.
Very well located Hotel, peaceful at night time, staff friendly and very helpful, nice breakfast.
We had our 35 wedding anniversary and staying at Colombina gave a romantic touch to it.Hotel was exactly what we expected in Venice , room looking over the canal was excellent choice, the staff was very helpful ,it was clean and bed was comfortable.Breakfast was good.
This is my second time at this hotel and we chose the room with the canal view, three balcony doors and a view of the Bridge of Sighs. Staff were very kind and helpful.
great service, great staff
We had a very nice room and bath. The decor was beautiful and the room was quiet. We slept well in the bed. The breakfast food and room were nice. The staff was nice but only willing to help with anything for extra money, example: Gondola was more if they called one than if we got one on our own. Same for a water taxi. The hotel is like a boutique hotel so it was small but quaint.
We came off a cruise ship and while they were very willing to store our luggage they weren't able to get our room ready early from our request. We sat for a while in the lobby area and there was no option to get a drink or see if we needed anything. The shower seemed to leak a good bit on to the floor. The location was somewhat difficult to get to with large luggage. We could have gotten a water taxi for $100 that was about a 3-5minute boat ride down the canal from the main tourist area.
Excellent location and friendly staff.
Breakfast could be slightly better.
This is a beautiful hotel within walking distance of St Mark's. The breakfast was very good and served in a lovely breakfast room. The staff was excellent. When we were concerned we would get lost, the desk clerk said 'just call me and tell me what you see and I will tell you how to get back to the hotel.'
I thought it was a bit expensive but it is a beautiful hotel in a great location so I guess that is to be expected.
Canal view on the 4th floor Good selection at breakfast Helpful staff
Poor snack selection
We liked the location of the hotel.
Very noisy, we heard everything they did above us. Always seemed like we were bothering the staff with questions. The staff didn't even ask us how we liked our stay when we left. Maid doesn't knock just enters the room. Simple things wrong like the towel hook in the bathroom is hung upside down so you can't use it.
Met us at the boat landing right to the hotel. Awesome! Stay was inviting, staff was helpful and knowledgable. It was a really nice stay.
