A quieter alternative to Rome’s bustling historic centre, the elegant Vatican district is full of history and culture. Visit St Peter’s Basilica, one of the most famous churches in the world, or admire stunning Renaissance artwork at the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel.Pause on pedestrian Ponte Sant’Angelo, Rome’s prettiest bridge, and enjoy unforgettable views of Castel Sant’Angelo fortress, the final resting place of Emperor Hadrian and now a museum and bar. Set on the West bank of the Tiber, the Vatican district is a short walk across the river from Piazza Navona and the whole of Rome’s historic centre. For typical Roman restaurants and lively nightlife, follow the river down from the Vatican to characteristic Trastevere.

Service was excellent. Location excellent. We had lunch in the garden one day, it was amazing nothing of consequence. you cannot expect the same conveniences in a 500 year old building as in a newly built hotel. |

Close to the Vatican. Not too expensive for Rome. The air conditioning was very noisy - flapping sound when turned up. Needs replacing. Bathrooms have cement flooring. Bedding is cheap and tired looking. Needs replacing. The outside is better than the inside. |

Nice impression when you walk in . . . . but the rooms are in need of remodeling . . . . we viewed six rooms before we found one that we could stay in . . . . the problem was either the air conditioner did not work or the room was in such need of repair . . . or they were rooms in which you would get sick for the second hand smoke . . . . the Staf wasvery kind and very helpful |

Excellent location for sightseeing both Vatican, of course, but Rome as well. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great atmosphere - its not the shiny standardized thing of typical 4* hotels of but just perfect for the 'vibe' of Vatican. Breakfast could have had wider selection. |

I liked its convenience to the Vatican I liked the gracious charm of all the public rooms, and wondered if the hotel was once the home of the Colonna family ?As a Knight Commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre I know something of the Order's connection with the hotel. Not really -- apart from the price !! |

The location so close to the San Pietro is excellent. Hotel Columbus is situated in a beautiful building. The bed in my singleroom was very small. |

Beatiful, historic hotel next to St. Peters. Lot of traffic, but high ceilings and lots of history. I did not get my 60 euro online discount when we settled the bill. Do not throw away your booking information before you have settled your bill. |

Beautiful hotel, big rooms (we had a combined 2xdouble room, one for us and one for the children), excellent location. Very friendly and helpful staff! We'll certainly come again! One minor point: The rooms were properly cleaned daily, but the furniture itself was rather dusty. A monthly cleaning of those as well might be nice. No big problem, just a suggestion. |

This is a fine hotel with very warm and helpful reception staff. The location so close to the Vatican was excellent. The room was beautiful and the general ambience/decor of the hotel made for a most enjoyable stay. There is a great sense of history and I liked the old world elegant feel to the place I was not impressed with the breakfast. I prefer some hot items and some fresh fruit. However this would not stop me from visiting again as there are so many places for breakfast nearby and customs vary from country to country and from hotel to hotel. |

The hotel staff is amazing and so is the location. Just a few meters away from St. Peter's square, but also close enough to the shopping areas! |
