Palazzo Cardinal Cesi is in a 15th-century building, and is just 460 ft from Saint Peter’s Square.
Score from 303 reviews Excellent
In a 19th-century building, the Quirinale is a 10-minute walk from the Colosseum. This historic hotel is connected to Rome Opera House through a passageway in its leafy courtyard.
Score from 4006 reviews Very good
Offering panoramic views of Saint Peter's Square from its rooftop terrace, Residenza Paolo VI is actually a former monastery, and is the only hotel right on Piazza San Pietro.
Score from 458 reviews Excellent
Just 325 ft from Rome's Piazza Venezia and 320 yards from the Roman Fora, Hotel Cosmopolita features a furnished terrace and air-conditioned rooms. Wi-Fi is free.
Score from 910 reviews Good
Confirmed larger room (twin) but very small and cramped.
Location. Almost next door to St. Peter's and close to restaurants and shops. Near to river and Castel St. Angelo. Excellent location.
I am sure that this hotel was once a lovely, elegant property, and could be again, but it has been used hard and poorly maintained. Still, it maintains some stately charm.
We loved being so close to Saint Peter Square.
The furnishings in the room were outdated and the wi if was confined to the lobby area.
Location, so close to the Vatican which was our main reason to book this hotel. The hotel itself is an interesting building. Historical with lots of paintings.
The room wasn't that great for the money. Pillows were uncomfortably hard, toilet made so much noise, one was afraid to use it. (Hopefully it was just ours) It was very noisy from the streets.
Cleanliness of the room
Great location in an old building with so much history. Breakfast in the garden was excellent. Very close to the Vatican and the Metro station. Very helpful staff.
Location. We walked everywhere. Beautiful hotel with fantastic public rooms and quiet courtyard garden. Hardly any traffic noise at night. Very nice and obliging staff.
Impossible to sleep due to the heat. Air conditioning was very old and extremely noisy so we couldnt use it. Carpet in our room was dirty due to age, not because it hadnt been tended to. Found the previous occupants dirty underwear in a drawer too eww!! Suspect if the rooms were updated, it would increase the cost dramatically, so if you want the incredible hotel, garden and location for a budget price, it is worth putting up with.
Nice, not bad
Very Old building
Unbeatable location, very friendly staff, the place has charm.
The rooms are in serious need of renovation; some more than others. The air condition in the first room I had sent a steady strem of water on to the carpet; luckily I was able to change to a soemwhat more modernized room.
Location History and charm of the building Cafe and food Friendly and helpful staff
Bed matresses were too soft and sunken Air Condintioning not adequate for summer
The best location if the first priority of your sightseeing in Roma is basilica. We've enjoyed its various looks both day and night including the face in the dawn.
Roma, have all taxies into toyota, then you'll have a cleaner air. We had our noses running right after arrival at Stazione Terminal and could not stop for quite a long time.
Hotel Columbus is just steps away from the vatican and an easy walk to piazza navona, the pantheon, trastevere, and the spanish steps. The best feature is the historic architecture. This is a real palazzo, when you stay here you truly feel that you are in Rome. We splurged for a junior suite that overlooked the quiet courtyard. The room was spacious, comfortable, and the air conditioning worked great. Staff are friendly, helpful, and speak english.
The decor and furniture are pretty worn, but everything was clean so it didn't bother us. Our room didn't have a stand up shower, just a hand held one in the tub. The wifi wasn't consistant and we had to get a new pass word from the front desk every day. The breakfast wasn't great, the pastries were dry. We never saw the bar open and the restaurant had inconsistant hours. Even though this seems like a long list of complaints, I would stay here again. These issues are outweighed by the history and atmosphere, great location and reasonable price.
Amazing location for the Vatican and Sistine Chapel, but also surrounded by loads of tourists. Hotel quite amazing and beautiful and very Roman. Breakfast was reasonable.
Dinner options in hotel quite limited with small and expensive menu.
Location, virtually next door to St. Peter's. Room large. Lovely old building.
Bathroom inadequate. Shower occupied same space as toilet.
Great atmosphere and excellent location
Could do more with the bedding. Sturdier more stable bed with better pillows
The room is very clean and comfort, restaurant provide very tasteful and wonderful dishes, and location is very convenient, thanks!
I have been there together with my family including baby and senior people and it was an experience awesome. The only problem is the Wi-Fi connection that doesn't work a lot of time. Despite of this, I recommend Hotel Columbus to have an awesome stay in Rome, inside the Vatican Citté

Liked being able to step out the door and see the Vatican.
Kind of an odd smell in our room. Was ok to spend a night, but wouldn't have liked to stay for an extended period of time.
The history of the building and the close proximity to the Vatican.
Breakfast was too expensive, should be included and would have been for us except I bought made the reservations through you.
Beautiful facility, perfectly located next to the Vatican.
Unfortunately, management apparently won't take you seriously unless you take photos of poor service men trying to turn on a portable A/C unit--first without venting the exhaust hose, and then coming back with duct tape to affix hose to the window, which would then make venting the A/C unit useless because all of the cool air would be flowing out the huge gap in the window. So, poor service man called down stairs and mentioned "camera" and I got one of the best rooms in the hotel. Again, you must take photos if you don't want to be treated like a stupid fool.
The location of the Hotel is excellent and the history attached to the Hotel is reflected in the decor throughout. The two female receptionists at the main desk were very helpful and pleasant. We booked this Hotel as a second option - as we normally stay at the Residetia Paulo IV nearer the Vatican but could not get a room for the dates required.
Our room was small dark and in need of some upgrade work. Not withstanding the fact that this is an older, historical type property it could have been better. Im not even convinced that we had the upgraded room that we paid for. Bathroom also tiny and in need of some TLC. Breakfast was very basic, even by continental standards (couldnt even get some toast) and although served between 7 and 10am if you were down late food was not replaced. I asked for some fresh fruit one morning to be told it was finished (before 9am) - the following 2 mornings was tinned fruit cocktail. Staff in the dining room unhelpful, abrupt and non-smiley except for the young male waiter who did manage to locate me some fresh fruit for my breakfast. Also some mornings we could not get a breakfast table and were directed outdoors - no thanks. Finally the Hotel holds "classical concerts" and one afternoon walking to our room we were "scolded" by a rude male and female telling us to be quiet - im afraid i reminded them that we were guests and there was no indication of a concert being on! Glad we did not have children with us. Overall not a pleasant living experience this time and although i appreciate that these views are mine and of my fiance i hope they are helpful. I wont return to this Hotel.
