Featuring panoramic views of Portofino Bay, the Excelsior Palace Hotel has 2 restaurants, a summer beach club with infinity pool and sun terraces, and spacious rooms, many with sea views.
Score from 736 reviews Excellent
Offering panoramic views of the Gulf of Tigullio, the Tigullio Royal is a 7-story building on Rapallo's seafront promenade. The ferries for Portofino and the Cinque Terre leave from nearby.

The 4-star Hotel Laurin features a large terrace with a pool and panoramic views of the Ligurian Sea. It is located right on the sea in Santa Margherita Ligure.
Score from 554 reviews Very good
Best Western Regina Elena features a rooftop pool and hot tub with views of the Ligurian Coast. It is in Santa Margherita and has lush gardens leading to a private beach.
Score from 412 reviews Very good
The rooms in the main building are very comfortable with recently updated bathrooms. The staff were very helpful. The view from the sea view room was excellent.
We were initially given a room over the covered car park in which we could easily hear the neighboring room. The manager moved us without fuss. Our dog was not allowed in the restaurant.
Was a bit of a hike going back late at night.
Poor breakfast and wifi connection.
location, views, staff, room service, cleanness
WiFi is very sluggish . Breakfast does not have many options. charges for car parking.
great location, fantastic view from the restaurant's terrase, nice beach
Location was great- a short walk to the charming town and the train station. Nice view from room and excellent restaurant. Very helpful staff.
...that we were not there longer!
Beautifully kept terraced gardens leading down to the hotels own bathing patio by the sea. Superb view.
Having to pay for car parking is wrong. Parking should be free when an on-site car park is available.
Me and my sister were staying in the HC 2 nights. we got an amazing room with the garden :) very much enjoyed the HC Beach :) Fabulous views over the beautiful HC gardens, sea, the town and the marina.
where to start....? Location: snuggled up against and overlooking the great blue sea... Grounds: simply magnificent.... well tended gardens and paths sloping down the cliffs towards the sea! Rooms: a variety of rooms to suit every taste, many with wonderful views of the Mediterranean Breakfast: Varied and good buffet, attentive and friendly staff, ......and the view from the balcony...unbelievable, what a way to start your day!! Swimming and sunbathing: Hotel has its own small, heavenly, section of the Mediterranean coast, direct access to the sea, closest thing to a natural swimming pool that I have ever seen...just swim out into the clear waters of the bay if you want. and yet part of the "pool" is shallow enough for a four-year old to stand in...it is not a sandy beach though.... it is rocky promontories that have been modified and "smoothed out" into perfect sunbathing platforms that give you easy access to the sea...
...that I didn't discover this place earlier in my life...
The hotel is in a prime position overlooking the gulf of portofino. The rooms, view , service were of a very high standard infant absolutely brilliant! Was going to stay in Portofino but do glad we chose to stay in Santa Margharita - so much nicer overall ! Portofino is great for a drink and maybe dinner but had nothing else to offer except very high prices !
The location in Santa Margherita Ligure was perfect. Away from road noise but easy walking to town. The views from our balcony were fantastic. Definitely ask for a seaview room. The staff and the hotel itself was perfect.
The location is superb. Wonderful to enjoy the med, the views, the boats. Life is more than just an Internet connection!!
Wifi was pathetic.
Not much of anything concerning food and food service. It was a disgrace to whomever has invested a good deal of money into this hotel. Dining facilities were quite good.
In a reasonably elegant dining room, staff was casual and indifferent and seemed not to understand good service. For a dinner salad, diners were directed to a "salad bar", which consisted of 4 or 5 skimpy small bowls of (a) lettuce, (b) shredded carrots, (c) maybe tomatoes (can't recall now) and maybe (d) arugula. Frankly a comical display ... we were tempted to take a photo (sorry we didn't). Menu unattractive, so ordered steak (can't recall how it was titled in the menu ... but it was attractive). What arrived was thinly sliced "cube steak" ... fatty, small and thin. Terrible and a disgrace to the hotel. We'll avoid Hotel Continental in the future.
location valet parking guys were excellent, parked our campervan right out front! fantastic views
no pool not child friendly at all by the loungers/sea average/borderline rude reception staff
- Amazing views - Outstanding value for money... the service, views and facilities couldn't be matched at the price.
The beauty tranquility of Santa M was a haven. Especially after the busy city. We had to get and out early to connect via train for ferry in Genova. So SO worth it. Santa M cleared the head and mind. And the ocean the soul.
Wonderful location with panoramic views, perfect for a relaxing holiday in what must be one of the best areas to visit in Italy - it's all there from the beaches and coves with crystal waters, shopping, food, culture, history and perfect access to lots of nearby points of interest. Combine this with top-level concierge services and friendly staff, making every request seem like no trouble at all.
Very little not to like. Perhaps the continental breakfast could have been more extensive and interesting but the quality was fine. The wifi was slow and unpredictable.
The hotel has one of the prime spots in San Margherita, with magnificent views over the bay. From the patio lounger and room we watched passenger ships, ferries and all the yachts and boats in and out of the port. The lawns and flowers leading down to the swimming area are beautiful and colourful. We could walk quickly to and from the station to visit Cinque Terre as well as into town in the evening for a meal or a drink. It was a superb stay and would recommend a visit.
Very slow internet, noisy rooms and to charge for sun beds and parking is a bit much.
situated perfectly on a cliff, amazing view.. and the fact that it had its own private beach. Extremely nice and helpful staff. I absolutely enjoyed having breakfast while looking over the bay.
the rooms were a bit too rusty/old for my own liking.
The rooms with views of the sea are a must at this hotel! The gardens are immaculate, and you are right on the water. The rooms are not the fanciest, but they are spotless and the location trumps everything else. We were even greeted with Prosecco to celebrate our birthdays upon our arrival. Would definitely stay here again!
The staff was very professional, but could have been more friendly.
Location Very helpful staff Cleanliness Excellent breakfast choices and service Beautifully kept gardens
Poor value food at the beach café Very unhappy at being charged 20 Euros for a sunbed for the day Unhappy no iron was available for a fresh shirt for dinner on night of arrival Absolutely awful WiFi Did not feel it was good value for money but considering the location, and we were height of Summer, I guess sky high prices to be expected
The location is superb. The staff (both hotel and their dedicated beach staff) are really kind and friendly. The gardens are beautifully kept. The food is good.
The hotel is tired in places. My room was very tiny and old fashioned, and the bed was really uncomfortable and squeaked horribly every time I turned over in the night.
Location, comfort and beauty. Surpassed our expectations.
The grotto was a bit expensive.
