Overlooking the Ligurian Sea, the Metropole is set at the beginning of Santa Margherita Ligure's seaside promenade.
Score from 284 reviews Excellent
The hotel has one of the prime spots in San Margherita, with magnificent views over the bay. From the patio lounger and room we watched passenger ships, ferries and all the yachts and boats in and out of the port. The lawns and flowers leading down to the swimming area are beautiful and colourful. We could walk quickly to and from the station to visit Cinque Terre as well as into town in the evening for a meal or a drink. It was a superb stay and would recommend a visit.
situated perfectly on a cliff, amazing view.. and the fact that it had its own private beach. Extremely nice and helpful staff. I absolutely enjoyed having breakfast while looking over the bay.
the rooms were a bit too rusty/old for my own liking.
The rooms with views of the sea are a must at this hotel! The gardens are immaculate, and you are right on the water. The rooms are not the fanciest, but they are spotless and the location trumps everything else. We were even greeted with Prosecco to celebrate our birthdays upon our arrival. Would definitely stay here again!
The staff was very professional, but could have been more friendly.
The location is superb. The staff (both hotel and their dedicated beach staff) are really kind and friendly. The gardens are beautifully kept. The food is good.
The hotel is tired in places. My room was very tiny and old fashioned, and the bed was really uncomfortable and squeaked horribly every time I turned over in the night.
Location, comfort and beauty. Surpassed our expectations.
The grotto was a bit expensive.
Bar and restaurant staff excellent and super friendly
Reception staff not as good as last year which made us feel bad
Fabulous location, bedroom with spectacular sea view and terrace, very nice gardens over the sea, terrace of the breakfast room with stunning views, attentive and friendly staff, 5 min walk to Santa Margharita city center, the fantastic private "rocky beach" and especially its restaurant on a balcony (It was a real pleasure to spend all day there doing nothing...). I strongly recommend a stay at this hotel.
Despite all positive points, which are not few, this hotel is from the beginning of the 20th century meaning some disadvantages, such as lack of soundproofing, small/medium size bedrooms, outdated beds, etc... but everything was real proper. On the contrary, the breakfast was very poor for this level of prices and the wi-fi a total disaster! However, I recognize the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. If I can, I will do it again!!
Excellent location, nice gardens which convey 19th century, private beach, breakfast on the terrasse is a lovely start for a wonderful day, town and starion are within walking distance
The room and bathrooms need some renovation; charging for a beachtowel and sunbed at the hotel beach 20 euro per day is a bit on the high side and conveys a money grabbing atmosphere - I would rather pay a few Euro more per night and have thisservice included
A beautiful hotel , fantastic position and staff impeccable .
The views were wonderful and hotel is delightful. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast which included proseco was delicious.
Great location. Spectacular view of Santa Margherita day and night. Beautiful grounds. Close to train station - short walk up hill. Had a spacious room with balcony viewing city. Everything was clean and well kept and the staff was helpful. I would stay here again.
Bed was very very firm. Bath had plenty of room and was clean but did not have a separate shower. Shower was a bit of an awkward retrofit to tub.
Way too many Norwegians. Wifi was hardly working.
Quality of the room was really poor. The remote control was not working, the sink was not draining, the size if the bath was so little that i could not fit. Even more, i could hear everything from the room next to mine. Like if they were in the same room with me
Good modern, room with patio and sea view. Breakfast terrace. Well maintained gardens.
Minimum 20 euro pp charge for sunbeds, with no half-day option - although management have promised to consider a change of policy following numerous on-line complaints. No complimentary water in rooms or in gym: not too much to ask in an hotel of this standard. Staff slow to offer up basic information about breakfast times, wifi access etc.
beautiful hillside location overlooking Santa Margarhita and the sea, general old world hotel rustic ambience and sensational seaside rockpool
having to leave but apart from that absolutely nothing
The views and proximity to the beach
The staff was very helpful and welcoming. HC is a beautiful, perfectly situated hotel. I will most definitely return.
Wonderful view from balcony.
location, swim option
Location and amazing views.
Pillows were not comfortable. Charging of deck chairs way to expensive.
We loved the location, parking facilities, swimming facilities and the wonderful breakfast. The casual bar/restaurant was great for lunches.
It was perfect.
The beach was awesome! The facilities and location are really wonderful! Great access to everything. The staff are very friendly.
The room accomodations is less than aspect and a major dissapointment. The bathroom very tide and the shower is for very small people. I felt we got the room the nobody wants. We tried to change, but there was nothing available.
Location, view, gardens
sea water not so clean
Hotel is near train station and hotel; rooms facing the sea on 1st floor are small but with wonderful terraces; breakfast is served on terrace with magnificient view
Staff is chronichally overchallenged and hectically running around behind front desk (friendliness suffers accordingly); no help what so ever with luggage transfer to train station; WiFi in rooms and public areas are crazy slow (seems to date from IT stone age) and cell phone signal in general is very poor
