I would really recommend staying at this place, if you want to visit the northern part of Tuscany. Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, Florence, San Gimignano, all within one hour by car. The place is clean, people are very kind, spacious rooms and apartment (we had the smallest, but this was really proper for us, two adults, one baby (one year)).The beds were ok, and kitchen was good! The area was great as well, nice views, perfect spacious area with grass to play, opportunity to sit outside at your own terrace furniture. The pool wasn’t open this time of the year (unfortunately, since it was 24 degrees), the restaurant wasn’t open as well (which seems more logical since only two apartments were occupied in the week we stayed at Tommasi’s. Altogether, nice place!
Though we would recommend staying at this place, some things you need to know: - Rooms are thin-walled, so noisy. - Be informed whether the pool and restaurant is open or not. - The hosts do not speak English, not a word. This was difficult. E.g. the Breakfast was nice and good, but besides the croissants, the toast, chocolate and creamy bread, we missed just normal fresh bread. I am sure they would arrange it if we would ask for it, but the communication threshold restrained us asking for it, as well as for some extra kitchen equipement. Anyway, still we had a nice time!
You will feel like you're in Tuscany as you stop the car engine. The residential is a compromise-free building. Very clean, quiet and quality. On the 2nd day you will enjoy discovering the Altopsacio's and Orentanio's hosterias and supermarkets. Get your supplies and enjoy dinner cooked by yourself on your own terrace, under the tuscan sunset sky.
If it is about being remote, the cooking gear is way under-needs. Except a pasta boiling pot, there is nothing else you can use to cook your Altopascio (5 km) grocery. You may find yourself with a sack-full of unwanted cooking logistics by the time you check-out, depending on the time you plan to stay there.
Very nice an spacious appartments. Good pool which was cleaned every morning. Good restaurants within 15 minutes walk. Stunnning view of the surrounding landscape, especially with sunset. Staf did everything theye could to make our stay as good as possible (they just started a month ago). Wifi wasn't working in the appartments but was fixed within a couple of days (for all appartments).
There where a lot of (tiger) mosquitoes, in fact there where so much of them that we havent been out in the evenings! We decided to shorten our stay to 5 days instead of 7 due to the mosquitoes (problem in whole Tuscany btw). Because of the location (some sort of wetlands-like surroundings) this was the worst place in terms of mosquitoes in Tuscany we've seen. Also breakfast was really bad, only some (prefab) croissants or bad made (sort of) pie. Coffee was the worst in Italy. Too few umbrellas (3) at the pool for all guests.
We had a 2 bedroom apartment (Poppies) on 2 floors which was very spacious ,comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was especially spacious, clean and well prepared with plenty of towels for us all. The stone staircase in the apartment was a feature. Each bedroom had its own air conditioner but although the weather was hot we found the apartment remained cool. The communal pool was never crowded and cleaned daily and was a really enjoyed by the children. We enjoyed the breakfasts on the restaurant terrace with super views over the Tuscan countryside - a choice of cereals, yogurts, sweet pastries, cakes and croissants along with juices, great coffee and tea. Unfortunately we missed the choux pastry festival in the village (24th August) which is a local highlight, but we were there for the barrel rolling which was fun to watch. Good location for visiting Pisa, Lucca and Florence etc. We wished we'd had time to spend longer at Corte Tommasi.
There wasn't anything we didn't like but we could have done with a few more utensils in the kitchen - a kettle and possibly a microwave would have been helpful. Also, the lack of a washing machine either in the apartment or in a communal laundry area could be a draw back for families on a longer stay.
1. The very young team running this place (apparently since 1 month) seems to be open for critics and willing for improving the current situation, but… 2. We enjoyed the view, the nice swimming pool and the size of the apartment. 3. Good beds and air-conditioning in the sleeping rooms. 4. The location is convenient to visit the Northern part of Tuscany and to spend some time at the Riviera.
1. The new owners try but are as matter of fact not able to speak/understand the English language (or any other than the Italian one). 2. The overall equipment is really basic. Almost no furniture’s at the nice swimming pool, most of the guests have to sit on a plastic chair or on the ground. Indispensible kitchen equipment missing. No sun umbrella available for our apartment. 3. The size of the sunbathing area is too small in comparison with the overall capacity. 4. The walls are thin and the sounds from the floor (ventilation from the underground parking places) when sitting on the terrace are disturbing. 5. Presence of numerous friends of the owners at the swimming pool on Sunday pm with as a consequence less place available for regular customers. 6. A proper professional treatment against mosquitos is recommended in the domain.
We loved the view and the pool, the quiet place and the small apartment
