Decumani Hotel De Charme  

Very fine location, very friendly staff

The approach streets to Decumane Hotel de Charme had me quite anxious - there was a real ring of Peter Sarsdet's "raggedy children in the back streets of Naples" and given the dark, dank conditions we did not know what to expect around the next corner - when however we turned into the large archway marking the entrance to Hotel de Charme we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in the courtyard of a rather palatial grand old house entered by a classic wide marble staircase ...... or using a construction elevator with Hotel de Charme etched in pen on the escutcheon plate of the elevator buttons - it depends on which you see first - hopefully it's the stairs in the shadows because the tiny scruffy elevator quickly puts you off again!!! Once you step out of the elevator into the lobby you are immediately put at ease by a quite large, resplendent reception area. The room was great - lots of space, modern bathroom and facilities and retaining a certain amount of the historic splendour. The dining room was the knock-out blow ... it is fabulous, a large banqueting hall with all of the historic classico ornate reliefs and paintings! Breakfast is continental only but it is adequate.

Improve the entrance and approach with a better elevator and better signage. Add a cooked breakfast to the menu.

Perfect location for anyone who wants to visit the "centro storico" of Naples. Also in walking distance for a visit to the Archeological Museum, to Molo Beverello (Capri ferries), and, with a little strength of will, to Napoli Centrale train station where you can get the Circumvesuviano trains to Pompei and Herculane. The hotel itself is located on the 2nd floor of the cardinal Riario Sforza palace. That comes with some pros and some cons. The main pro is that you will stay in a historical building, still preserving some features from the 1800.

The main con is also that you will stay in a historical building. At 1800 the thermal efficiency of building was'nt a decisive architectural concern since they still had a lot of forests to burn. So I will recommend this hotel from May to mid September, or from mid April to October if you manage to get a smaller room that's easier to heat. We had one large and one small and felt the difference. Also one should note that being a small hotel ( 10-20 rooms or so) the breakfast choice is limited ( people thriving on ham and eggs should avoid it for sure).

Although the streets around the hotel do not look at all nice, once you open the lift door to the second floor an entirley different aspect of the area is opened up. The dining area is immaculate and has a felling of years gone by and the rooms are clean and comfortable. This hotel is very close to the centre of the City, many shops and restaurant are around. I have no hestitaion in recommending this hotel to any treveller, from young to not so young.

Excellent location, attentive staff, restrained decor and beautiful fittings including gorgeous dining room. Do not be put off by the downstairs entrance. Upstoars is very nice indeed.

The entrance is a bit of a shock because like most Iatlian Palazzi, the ground floor is essentially a service area and car park. But the stairs were grand and clean and the hotel was very nicely done. A good place to explore the heart of Naples with very friendly, helpful staff.

We loved this hotel. First of all the location is excellent , right in the heart of the old city. The hotel itself is very beautiful and the decor is gorgeous, (as an artist the visual aspect is very important to me) there is a feeling of spaciousness ; as well as a large bathroom and large bedroom there is an adjoining area where one could sit and enjoy the open window if the weather had not been so inclement. Most of all it was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff that makes me want to return. Staying at this hotel added so much to our trip to Naples, a city that has so much to offer, but the warmth of it's people is notable and this warmth was communicated by everyone working at this hotel . The bed is very firm which we liked and we slept extremely well, the location being a very quiet area . I can't recommend Decumani Hotel De Charme too highly, it is just delightful.

Personnel was exceptionally good.They should all be working at a 5 star hotel and getting paid very good salaries.

Entrance to the hotel is laughable and tragic.Breakfast is a very poor.

Very helpful and friendly staff who spoke English very well. The room was spacious and luxurious, the breakfast room is really outstanding and gives a genuine 'palazzo feel' to the complex. Do not be put off by negative comment about the neigbourhood, it is very close to the main historic sites, you just need to keep in mind that Naples in general is extremely dirty and that litter and graffiti is unfortunately abundantly present.

Location really in old city center, easy access by walking to anywhere, quiet area to sleep. Ask hotel reseption people to escort you to park your car in their contract parking garage to avoid car being scrathed or stolen from street.

Do not enter Napoli center with big wide family cars! Center old streets are too narrow-only possible to drive with small cars!

satisfaction,excellent staff and nice atmposphere ;very good breakfast ;you should have in mind the name of the street of the hotel to come back to it,since it is in the historic center.
