parking place next to the hotel equipment of room place between old and new town
noise from the hallway
Location is close to Ortigia (and safe as it is right next to a police station!) Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are modern, clean and comfortable Great value for money
Can be noisy as it is on a main street (especially rooms on the ground floor)
Great staff, clean comfortable room, right price and excellent continental breakfast. We liked the location just outside the hustle and bustle of the Old City of Ortegia. Barbara, the manager is engaging and helpful and manages a very professional staff.
Very minor issue for us was that wifi was weak in the room. Fine in the public area.
A stylish hotel in easy walking distance of all sites.
Breakfast was a bit chaotic. Our room, on the ground floor, was right on the street, so the glass was opaque. I think it would have been much better to have a first floor room.
Breakfast and wi-fi.
Room was far to small. We choose this hotel because in our last stay there the rooms are OK, on the first floor. Now, the room was less than 10 sqm. If I have options, I do not stay there.
The convenient proximity to Ortigia but I would recommend rather staying in Ortigia itself. I'm afraid I cannot find anything else I liked about Coloniali - I cannot understand how they wangled getting 4 stars.
It was disappointing from beginning to end. The 2 rooms we stayed in were tiny and the enormous beds had to be squeezed past. The breakfast was horrible and I saw the cakes / pastries being set up at 1am for the morning. Then, one could see the same cakes being stored next to reception during the day - so nothing is fresh. The decor is some 15yrs old and extremely dated, even falling apart. The room was poorly cleaned each day nor the fridge replenished. The hotel owns the restaurant next door, which held an incredible loud party on one night. The location is right next to cold storage facilities for fish and seemed open, 24/7. This included a guard dog that howled and barked incessantly. We checked out a day early, losing one night's accommodation as we couldn't bear staying any longer.
friendly staff, ideal position to visit Ortigia daily without having to park in Ortigia which is nearly impossible), easy access to local beaches, and to further ones towards South too. Good wi-fi signal, clean sheets every 2 days.
Everything was great except 3 things. 1- breakfast: old fruit, old ham & cheese, basic cakes... not horrible, but definitely not worth a 4 star hotel. 2- Our room faced a nice terrace on the roof, which came as a surprise; the main french door opened on it, and so did the toilet's window. there were 2 sun beds, a round table and 2 chairs. But... we soon discovered that the terrace was not ours, but shared with all guests, via another access door. That meant anyone could watch us through the french door or the toilet window, unless we kept blinds closed, and the room dark, always using lamps. We never saw sun light in the room, it was very poor. 3- noisy fridge, also leaking ice/water inside.
The hotel is near to the train and bus stations and a walking distance to ortygia. Our room was not what promised as our room was mistakenly given to someone else but we was given to choose from two rooms. Very clean and nice however a noisy room because in the first floor and faced to the street. The breakfast was rich and free parking possibility on a street where also a police station is located.
A noisy room as faced to the street and near to reception but with ear plugs did not disturb.
Close to old city, free parking, great wi-fi, super breakfast, friendly staff, stylish decor
Good staff Great location for sight seeing
The rooms are clean, decent size and there is parking in front of the building.
Hotel is located more or less close to the centre, but it is on the side road that looks as if it is in the warehouse area. Breakfast is served in some small makeshift corner behind the building with a temporary construction above the head. Receptionist is not rude, but just very unfriendly. When we've arrived, we asked for a different room, it seemed that he got offended by that and was sulking every time we passed by! The room we've got was on the ground floor and we could hear everything, the cars outside, people talking on the reception, phone ringing really loud (no one answering). Only 3 channels on TV. I know it is really a minor detail, but the hangers in the wardrobe are all different plastic ones, probably the owners got them for free when buying their own clothes. Only one member of staff spoke some English, which I wouldn't even mention, if they didn't speak in Italian and laugh in front of me, thinking I don't understand a word. All in all, it is not 4 star hotel in my opinion, but a good value for money for one night and if you need a parking.
Room nice and clean, although problems with electrics. Excellent range of choice on breakfast menu. Language a problem. Not in the best setting but a good, clean hotel and a sound base for travel as parking was available.
Not the best location, but handy for travelling as parking was available. Language difficulties. Electrics bit dodgy.
I appreciated the style of the restoration of a few old buildings in the harbor area. The staff is very friendly and our room was very large. The location allows you to walk to both the archaeological area and the old town.
The surrounding area still needs recovering actions
- The room was small but it was the furniture that was making it uncomfortable! The legs of the bed (doublebed) were sticking ~7 cm from the main frame so I was hitting my knees all the time in them. The bidet is located in front and under the sink! - On Friday night there was no hot water - completely cold
It's a nice small hotel, have good facilities and it's located very near the Centre
It doesn't have a lift for elder people
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Excellent buffet breakfast served in an attractive dining room with Hollywood theme. Hotel located in a central area close to trains, buses, restaurants, shops, and places of interest.
The street in which the hotel is located is not pedestrian-friendly.
Location Service Nice photos on the walls
Comfort (many things have to be repaired)
Hotel was close to train station, though somewhat confusing to find (study the location in advance on google maps). They allowed us to check in early. Location is great: close to the Ortigia neighborhood and walking distance to the archeological park sights. Clean hotel with comfortable bed and plenty of hot water. They allowed us to have breakfast early because we had an early train to Naples. Breakfast was tasty and they had free Wi-Fi. Great value!
I kept bumping into the decorative posts at the end of the bed.
Conveniently located for the railway station. Helpful staff. Use of eco-friendly toilet paper! Choice of buffet breakfast.
Over use of air fresheners when room is being prepared.
Quiet hotel; although not right in the old part of the town, it's only a stroll away. Also in good walking distance to the archeological park.
Room was very small, but when you are out all day, that does not really matter.
Free parking close to hotel. Acceptable breakfast. Friendly staff.
The Hotel is in an ideal location for exploring Ortygia and Syracusa on foot. The staff are superb and couldn't be more helpful. There is free parking outside the Hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with excellent bathrooms.
Nothing to dislike about this Hotel.
Comfortable room and relatively fast internet.
Lunch in attached to the hotel restaurant (Broadway) - poor quality and overpriced.
Barbara at the desk was most friendly and helpful. So were the other staff, but we had less contact with them. Excellent breakfast, good wi-fi.
Shampoo and soap not replenished every day.
