Donna Camilla SavelliVia Garibaldi, 27, Trastevere, 00153 Rome (Show map) Excellent, Score from 415 reviews“Very upscale. Old 6th century convent with great chapel on site. Quiet and reserved place. When you go out to dinner they come in and put candies on the night stand and slippers near the bed. Breakfasts are very good. You eat in a beautiful courtyard. Also, great view of Rome from the roof top.”

Lewiston
Designed by Baroque architect Borromini, Donna Camilla Savelli is a former monastery in Rome's popular district of Trastevere. It offers free parking and free Wi-Fi in the lobby. Rooms are elegant and sober. The property dates back to the 17th-century, and features exposed wooden beams on the ceilings, and precious stuccoes. Rooms are air conditioned and offer an LCD TV with satellite channels. The rooftop garden includes jasmines, camellias, and magnolias, and offers views of the city. The inner garden is complete with patio. Breakfast is a varied buffet including eggs, sausages, cold cuts and fresh pastries. During summer it is served on the terrace. The surroundings include historic buildings, traditional Roman squares, and cobblestone-covered streets. The beautiful square outside the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. The Vatican is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, along the banks of Tiber River. The historic center of Rome is just across Sisto Bridge. Hotel Rooms: 78

I had read good reviews previously but never sure how genuine these might be. After staying there it was clear the reviews were accurate and even understated. It is a beautifully restored old monastery, a wonderful and special hotel. The location is just outside the main tourist areas but in an area filled with beautiful streets and restaurants where local italians hang out. The locals know where the good spots are. We loved the hotel and the area, just a 10-15 minute walk across the river to all the well know tourist attractions. Fantastic.

We highly recommend this beautiful wholly renovated 16th century convent in the relatively quiet, fascinating Trastevere region of Rome. It's a 25 minute walk north to St. Peter's; a 25 minute walk west to Piazza di Compo de'Fiore and Piazza Navona. It's in a neighborhood crowded with Romans and Italians not Californians, like me, asking for directions. Wonderful restaurants & shops very close, and almost within the Parco Gianicolense and the beautiful Orto Botanico to the west. Beautifully restored, decorated rooms, very comfortable beds. Breakfast included ~ which can be taken in a lovely, quiet garden full of roses and honeysuckle. Roof top terrace has great views of entire city, but it's without food of drink service. Taxi available on demand, public transportation nearby. Its historic demeanor added greatly to our Roman Holiday. No restaurant, although one in planning will open 2012. Limited (but excellent) room service with cold food only. Small bar, limited wine list. Highly recommend for corporate event or large party (wedding) with catering. Standard rooms are nice, a bit pricey. Large rooms are exquisite, many with balcony and/or private terrace. We found staff to be well trained, attentive, urban sophisticated. Perhaps their "formality" was perceived as "unfriendly" in earlier reviews.

This hotel was like a small oasis of calm in the hive of activity that is Rome. Sited in a former monastery that has many of its original features it is both spacious and quiet, Our room, which I don't believe would have been one of the best in the hotel, was clean and well tended and the bathroom facilities were of high standard. Breakfast choice was varied and certainly would have catered for all. Travellers should note that there are not some of the facilities you might expect in a four star hotel, such as tea and coffee making facilities in room, no spa or gym and no restaurant (although there is a bar and evening snack facilities - with city centre hotel prices!) In fairness they never said there would be. That said if you are looking for a quiet comfortable base, near the vibrant and safe Trastevere restaurants and bars, and within walking distance of all the attractions of Rome, this is an excellent choice. We booked at a substantial discount to the advertised price - probably not value for money at the full price

The location, the fact that we had a parking. The staff of the hotel was a disaster, specially the front desk manager. My wife and myself are experienced travelers We have booked the room at the d after reading the feedback on Booking.com, we were aware of the problematic staff but the manage to disappoint even us. At the room next to us there were 3-4 drunk guys that were making a terrible noise around midnight. We called the front desk to update them and the answer we got was : " sorry we don't have security at the hotel". After 24:30 I went down to talk to the front desk representative , he gave me the feeling that there is nothing he can do,he called "our neighbors " and begged them to lower there voice, they totally ignored his request. I had to beg the desk representative to find a solution, obviously he didn'T. That was our terrible experience in the Donna. Our conclusion :it's always better to read cerfully the feedbacks of previous travelers and take into consideration what the wrote about the stuff. You can book the most amazing facility in the worl but if the staff is a disaster it could rewin your vacation.

The building was very pretty, as well as the decoration. Breakfast was excellent. We stayed in three hotels in our trip to Italy; Donna Camilla was the most luxurious and expensive. However the personnel (in the reception) was the least friendly and the one that spoke the worst English.

Very atmospheric converted convent. Totally in keeping with the historical city. Our room had no window from which to look out. It would have been pleasant to at least look onto the garden or, even better, over the rooftops of the city.

The location is off the beaten track. That can be good if you like to retreat to peace and quiet after a day in the center or it can mean a long walk everytime you want to get back to your room. We choose the location as we were visiting family in the neighborhood. Savelli was one of only 2 in the area that offered 4 star service. I was disappointed upon arrival as the bathtub silicone was black with mold! I asked to change the room. There weren't any others. Housekeeping tried to scrub it- I could tell once we returned from dinner, but it wasn't clean. The next day after lunch I was grateful to see that the silicone had been replaced. However, the tub coudln't have become that black in one night. I can't understand why housekeeping ( and other guests) didn't say something sooner. The hotel should have apoloized and offered us a drink or a voucher. Italy is generally far behind in customer care. On booking.com I requested a view. Our view was of the interior garden and partial city. I thought that was nice. I dont' know if there was better. The hotel offers a large breakfast buffet. We ate in the summer garden which was very pleasant. I'm not a big breakfast person, but it was good enough that I tried some sweets and cheeses. The archtecture of the hotel is what makes this hotel unique. Parking free of charge is an added bonus. Next time we'd rent a smart and drive ourselves to the hotel instead of hiring a driver. The hotel's brochure states something to the notion that they are an elegant hotel, but not sumptuous. I think that describes it well. The mold on the bath tub. (Read in my comments above.) The shabby bath towels. Pillows smelled bad- they didn't seem to have protectors, just the case alone. The smell in the night stand. No concierge desk. Nobody asked us if we enjoyed our stayed. No free internet in room. When I requested an early/ late check out, the response was "for an additioanl fee." At $370 a night for a basic dbl room I would have exepcted a different response. At these rates people do have expctations.

The hotel is very picturesque, based in a historic former convent, with a lovely internal courtyard garden and stunning roof terrace with great views over the city. The staff were all delightful, the breakfast very good. Although we were only a few hundred yards from a buzzing nightscene with lots of good bars and restaurants the hotel was wonderfully quiet at night. It was an easy 20 minute walk over the river to the centre of Rome, so we were able to walk everywhere. We loved this hotel - my only criticism would be that the bedroom furniture looked like the italian version of the tacky white melamine furniture you find in old fashioned and slightly downmarket english hotels. but the room itself was a good size with shutters opening over the courtyard, lovely tiled floors and an immaculate marble bathroom with a good sized shower. the bed was very comfortable too and everything was immaculate. so not much of a gripe really.

This hotel is in an excellent quiet location yet surrounded by many bars and restaurants in a roman neighbourhood away from tourist traps which is what we loved about it. The hotel itself is very comfortable, extremely clean and atmospheric and the history of the building is great. Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke English (although not to a great standard) but they helped us reserve tables/ book taxis etc. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty and set in a beautiful room so you get a great start to the day! Turn down service at night meant you came home to a tasty chocolate on your pillow each night :-)) We really enjoyed our 5 night stay and do not have any complaints at all!

The hotel is beautiful and very well located just outside the center. Free parking. At first we were given a room that felt like a prison, with a window up high with absolutely no view of anything. We complained and they gave us a much better room with a nice view and a bit larger, although they are all small because they were nuns' rooms and after it became a hotel the room size was not changed. No wifi in the rooms, I can't believe a 4+ star hotel for which you pay what you pay doesn't have wifi on the rooms. It was very annoying to have to go to the lobby to get internet.

The hotel itself was beautiful and quite unique. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room although small was quite comfortable and furnished appropriately for a hotel in this category. The marble bathroom was both pretty and functional... With proper lighting. The room was quite hot and although we asked them to turn down the heat, it didn't seem possible. We also attempted to have a drink at the bar, but no barman was available to serve us since there was a reception going on somewhere in the hotel.

This beautifully renovated 17th Cen. Convent is a unique hotel set in a quiet corner of Trastevere. The room was very comfortable and breakfast sumptuous. Not to be missed: a visit to the little church and a climb to the roof terrace for a spectacular view of the city or, better yet, get a room on an upper floor! Loved everything.

This hotel is worth every cent you pay. The rooms are beautiful, the little touches much appreciated, the bed just wonderful. Very clean, staff good communicators and knowledgable of many languages. Breakfast was sensational - truly Italian and plenty of everything. The location is perfect, becasue it is a neighbourhood rather than a shopping/partying, touristy part of time. The short walk across the bridge into the centre is really pleasant and after a day of exploring, eating and shopping, the walk back is the perfect winding down excercise before a good nights sleep. You can leave the windows open, fresh air and only the slightest buzz of noise, just to remind you that you are in rome.

I enjoyed experiencing the historic building that has been refurbished to form the Donna Camilla Savelli Hotel. Its public areas, the corridors, breakfast room, the courtyard are great features. Also, there is a roof courtyard from which you can get a great view of Rome. The room we had, a Classic Room, was simply and beautifully decorated, with superb bed linen, towels and toiletries. Terracotta floors and stylish Italian furniture completed the well designed room we were allocated. We stayed on a Saturday night and so it was easy to walk from the hotel to many restaurants and abundant nightlife. It's probably better to go for the higher grade rooms if you want a quiet room with courtyard view. We had some noise from revellers and road. Not sure if this is correct, but I was told that at the end of October, buildings in Italy turn the heat on and so you can't cool them with airconditioning, only turn heating up or down. We didn't need heating, and so in the end, shut off the 'air conditioner' and opened window. Thus, the noise from the street. Also, light from street lamp.
