Domus Mariae has a fantastic location on the island of Ortigia, in the heart of Syracuse. The rooftop terrace offers a beautiful sea view. There is a luxury spa center on site.

The spa and the central position
We booked a triple room but it wasn't very spacious
Location to the old city makes sightseeing easy.
Parking availability non existent at the hotel so car is driven somewhere to park for a couple of nights and costs more than London to park! Not good.
Beautiful views. Large comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent locatation. Parking permit offered.
The location was very centeral and the tourist bus was across the road from the hotel.
If you were in the front rooms there was a beautiful view but if not the back rooms looked over a very messy area
The staff was friendly and welcoming, the room was large and very clean.
Parking there is a bit of a nightmare, since the hotel is located within the historical (hence, protected) part of the city. Either you park your car yourself outside the restricted area, or you pay for a valet service to take your care and park it for you, away from the protected area. This worked well, but you need to book the return of your car about 30 minutes ahead of time, which kills spontaneity. Nevertheless, we did use that service and all was well.
Very pleasant hotel, good location, pleasant outlook. Staff helpful.
Parking is difficult but this is true of all Ortygia and you can end up parking a long way from the hotel. I would not want to try to park there in peak season. Beware the extras. Wifi was extra and not cheap ditto the spa and gym. I got the impression that some rates included Wifi and others such as mine did not as they would check my booking each time I asked for Wifi. Perhaps something that should be clarified with Booking.com
Breakfast, the view to the harbor, etc
Minor water leaks in bathroom
The hotel is a classic beauty and being on Ortigia is ideal. The rooms were large and we also had a balcony. Breakfast was also very good.
Though large, the room lacked sufficient closet space. The balcony, though outwardly attractive, was filthy and unusable. The water supply was very salty and not drinkable neither from the tap or if boiled (no kettle supplied). Rooms should therefore have complimentary bottled water. Though the hotel may have the look of 5 stars, it certainly lacked the feel. When reporting to the front desk about these points, we were told to speak to management. It should not be our responsibility to find the management but rather theirs to seek us for feedback.
The location is really all this hotel has going for it and the breakfast buffet had wide variety and choice.
While much of the time is spent outside the reception area is cold and guest lounge uninviting. The rooms were noisy and cold. Lack of free wi-fi also a turn off
Excellent breakfast and service Nice room
No food service in the bar Roof top restaurant opens at 7:30pm
Location is Excellent for exploring Ortigia! Lovely walks in old part of city.Numerous eating places Marvellous view! from hotel room. Indoor swim pool,a treat. Perfect in all ways!!!
I cannot think of anything to say, there was anything bad about our stay at Les Etrangers Hotel and Spa.....
Noisy air conditioner. Could not leave it on during the night. Would suggest a ramp on the road just before the hotel as it is quite dangerous as you step out
Fabulous room overlooking the sea and with a view of the harbour further along. Excellent bathroom with great shower. Excellent breakfast. Good dining rooms and very good evening meal in the restaurant. Not a cheap option but worth it. (Maybe not if the room has no view) Location great for Ortygia. Not useful for those wanting to walk to the archaeological site. Friendly waiters.
The snacks available in the bedroom were a bit pricey (we didn't have any though)
Hotel des etrangers is an institution in Ortygia, very charming, old glam, old world. The décor of my room was art noveau, clean, simple, nice smell. Bed linens were changed and towels were very clean. My room opened to a little piazza and was very charming. Hotel amenities are from Ortigia and are simply amazing. Breakfast is really good but was expecting some local bread (many choices indeed). Recommend to everyone.
Hotel staff called on the night before at 130am to confirm if my reservation was valid. I have already confirmed that with booking.com and sent an email to the hotel and hotel confirmed to me. THe person from hotel did not understand that and it was very very uncomfortable. I explained several times and confirmed that I would be at the hotel at the scheduled time. The mattress is not comfortable. The air conditioning does not cool enough.
The breakfast was big and diverse. The location was conveniently in the center of the old town with sea views. The free dry- and steam- saunas were nice. The room was large with a sea view.
The room had a strange smell, like of stagnant water. The bathroom shower leaked onto the bathroom floor. Our double bed was two single beds pushed up together, which would slide apart in the middle of the night.
Beautiful hotel overlooking the water. Great breakfast in dining room with fabulous view of the bay. Location great for walking and many restaruants nearby.
Very little room - shelving - for cases and travelling gear for two people. More pillows please!
Location, view, breakfast room, rooftop garden bar. Overall a nice corporate style hotel so if that is your thing you will like it. Other options suit us I guess. Staff were professional and personable.
Bathroom smelly (hotel made discount on bill as compensation after we brought it to their attention), a/c not working, noisy bar below (although it was saturday night).
Large room sizes and great views
No insulation from street noise so kept awake until the early hours, uncomfortable bed, toilet didn't flush, bath tap broken, dripping tap, full sized unfrosted window in bathroom at almost street level meant shutters had to be kept closed at all times so no natural light, spa had shabby flooring and broken knobs in Jacuzzi, safe in room was at ground level so had to lie on floor to set it or retrieve anything from it, breakfast awful with worst coffee ever had in Italy, man on check out incredibly rude, parking overpriced at 25 euros, electrical tape wrapped around lighting flex in bedroom looked dodgy. Worst of all were the shower caps we had to buy to use the pool - my hair still smelled of rubber after two washes
Cleanliness of room. Reception was very accommodating.
location, helpful check in staff, good breakfast,
The Roof Terrace, the Location, Surrounding.
Somehow it was not good for sleeping. The Bathroom was very poor, means it was noisy all night, some pumping noise. Something you find often in Italien Hotels: Cleanliness is poor in Bathrooms. The Water runs poor. The drains are almost blocked.
Everything was perfect!
AC in our room was working very loud.
Clean and deserving of the stars and great location
Pool is a joke, it is inside a dungeon, dark and miserable, but who cares, the hotel is great. The bar was closed but again, why would you want to drink in a hotel when you are about a visit to the town
I stayed a week in Des Etrangers as a solo 22 year old girl traveller and was overwhelmed by how friendly the staff were. Felt very safe and had the MOST AMAZING view of the ocean with front row seats to gorgeous sunsets everyday. The rooftop restaurant is to die for. The waiters all speak Italian, French (yay!) and English and were VERY friendly and always looking out for me. The food is absolutely devine and although the menu is smallish, they're always changing it each day. Amazing spa and massage facility. Felt totally relaxed and the busy part of Siracusa is literally metres from the hotel's doorstep. The breakfast in the morning made me feel spoilt. Delivered to my room each morning at exactly the time I had requested. And by a hot Italian that soon became my friend haha. P.S Hire a bike and explore! Also do the cave tour by boat! AMAZING!
They forgot to give me back my passport when I checked out and I only realised when I got to the airport... I had to go and collect it, should have been driven to me considering it was an extra 1.5 hour round trip to get it back. Did enjoy the rushed dangerously crazy Italian taxi ride though... What an experience! Made my flight by the skin of my teeth. Also, wifi is only free for first 24 hours. 9€ for every day after that. I racked up a weeks worth... Not good.
