we very well have spent time
The hotel might seem a bit weird due to its interior, but we had a good night there. The room was clean and spatious, there was no noise, and the bathroom was clean. The breakfast is good: it offers a variety of typical continental breakfast articles: viennoiserie, bread, ham, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, hot drinks,...
Fantastic location in an Interesting beautiful town. After a warm welcome by Carlos we were shown our rooms. They had the most fantastic views over the town and Etna. Our two rooms also had a "courtyard " of our own. Big rooms, very well equipped. Breakfast buffet was served in a grand dining hall with a Knight in armour watching over you. You find good restaurants 2-3 minutes from the hotel. Carlos recommended and booked a table for us, and that was good as it was Friday night and the restaurant was full. We are so happy that we chose Hotel Florio and will hopefully return.
my room had a great view of mount Etna, and was spacious and clean. Lovely man called Carlo did his best to look after us. Take your breakfast out on the roof terace and enjoy the amazing best views in the town.
The staff was really friendly and very helpful. The location is extremely quite and ideal for relaxation. The rooms are exceptional with a great view! Fresh towels are given everyday. The people who work there especially carlo and silvio are great!! They showed us around and helped us a lot.
Since the hotel is located on top of a steep hill, it is difficult to travel if you don't have a car. You have to be really careful when driving due to extremely narrow winding roads. The village is small with a few restaurants and is definitely not a touristic zone. The hotel itself is family run so it's not like the normal city four star hotel. The breakfast is served between 8 and 11 and does not consist of a buffet. There's fresh bread, tea, coffee, cakes, yogurt, cereal and fruit. We were only two coulpes at the hotel. You wouldn't find a receptionist or a porter at any time. At night theres noone except for the customers. Not all of the rooms have ac and ours did not function properly. We did not complain as it was quite fresh in the room so we did not need it. These are not negative comments but merely some infotmation that travellers shouls know of.
This hotel is a real family enterprise, with staff who seem to do their utmost to help you, even extending to walking you down a street to show you where a restaurant is, or letting you hire a relative's car! The hotel has a traditional feel, is comfortable and good value. The breakfast was very nice and the views from the windows are beautiful. Castiglione di Sicilia is a very charming small town, full of character, quaint alleyways and friendly people who all seem to know each other. Life in the town seems to go on much as it has done for centuries and the surroundings are stunning. The location is ideal for visiting Etna from the less-visited, Northern route, and there are other natural parks nearby - Alcantara gorge and the Nebrodi mountains. I highly recommend this hotel and Castiglione.
My room overlooked the front entrance so it was a bit noisy at times, but the hotel was full and i was a solo traveller in a single room, so I suspect that this room may not often be in use.
