Very nice accomodation. Situated in Sassi, you have a stunning view.
Location...i knew it, but when I actually needed to overcome that much toughness to reach there, well, I regretted a bit haha. But do not take a taxi but try to find another transportation if possible. I moved to this hotel from B&B in the city. I was tired, so I called a taxi and seemed to be overcharged. It was only less than 1 km, but the driver charged me 10 euro! So better not to use taxis if possible.
Clean and beautiful room beautiful view of sassi, especially at night nice staffs
Some sulfur smell sometimes in the room. I was lucky. I could open the window all night.
The bathroom (the only actual cave part of the room) smelled a bit. Fan left on stopped the spread. Would not stop us from staying there again.
The location was unbeatable. The manager assisted us with parking within walking distance and free of charge. Small but delicious breakfast. Minutes walk to SO many restaurants, coffee bars, and piazza's with anything you could need.
There was absolutely nothing to dislike.
We cannot say enough nice about Fra I Sassi. We were lost trying to find it, but the gracious host, Domenico, came and found us to lead us to it. He arranged parking for our car, helped with our luggage -- all with a very wonderful smile. Staying in the Sassi was a unique and wonderful experience. The room was large, comfortable, immaculately clean, with good WiFi. The bathroom (once part of a cave) was enormous with wonderful twin sinks and a huge, easy to use shower. Breakfast was delicious and abundant. Domenico gave us great recommendations for restaurants and arranged a superb guide (Silvio) for an afternoon tour. Without doubt, this was our favorite place to stay during our month long time in Italy. A stay here is a must for any tourist in Matera.
We really enjoyed staying here- it is easily accessible walking or you can park very close by. We were greeted by the owner who kindly offered us fresh coffee and showed us maps of matera. We stayed in a cave room which was really great- it wasn't at all damp which I have heard some cave rooms are and there was air conditioning. The room was big with a sofa and lots of space. There is a beautiful balcony Overlooking matera. Breakfast was really good with great coffee, juice, cereals, bread, fruit and local cakes. We would really reccommend staying here.
Our room was in 'a cave' and was very nicely decorated. The bathroom was small but had everything. Just outside of our room is a terrace with chairs and tables and a fantastic view. Christina gave us a map and some ideas of what to do. Breakfast was not just cake! It had local bread, cheeses, hams etc I was even able to try speaking a little Italian.
a little expensive
you can good views from your window.
Everything. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was kind and friendly. If I go back to Matera, I will stay there again.
Warm, welcoming, elegant. You really felt looked after. Breakfasts offered wide range of choices in elegant surroundings - a lovely beginning to each day
Everything was great - Highly recommend!
Loved our room - Room #1, the first room after entering the gate and coming up the stairs. It has a double bed with a white iron headboard, corner desk and a barrel vaulted stone ceiling - quite comfy! The bathroom is big, nicely renovated with double sinks, and steps up to a big, soaking tub/shower combination. Everything was very clean. This room does not open to the terrace but is just steps away. Well-located, right off one of the main streets and close to good restaurants. And easy to find after wandering around Matera. Breakfast was also good with plenty of variety. And the owners, Cristina and her father, were more than helpful and friendly. The airline lost one of our bags. Once it was found, Cristina was able to get it to Matera much faster than if we had waited for the airline to deliver it. Many thanks to both of them for all their hard work!
It is a wonderful place to stay and perfect location to explore Sassi.
* The owners know very little English. * The bathroom is separated from the rest of the room by a curtain. This gets pretty awkward when you have to do... bathroom things that tend to be noisy & smelly. * Parking might prove challenging around the hotel in the high season.
One of the BEST hotel rooms I've ever been in, for a bunch of reasons: * It's in a cave! cool! * Situated in a good location in a gorgeous town! * Immaculately clean. * The AC was so quiet we weren't even sure it was on. Just great! * The window looks over a lovely part of the town & has 2 layers of shutters. * The bed was comfy & big. * The bathroom was beautiful & very comfortable to use. The complementary soaps were better than our favorite brand at home. * The shower deserves a separate mention: it was the shower we dream of for ourselves- roomy, comfortable, easy to use & with a strong current. * Breakfast was generous & tasty.
