Score from 186 reviews Very good
Excellent Breakfast, Very Good Location, Clean Rooms
Wifi not cover all the Place But not bad
location (near Spagna, Barberini, Repubblica, Termini), authentic roman house, good quiet district, private bathroom, price
bad connection wi-fi, noise (audibility) of the near rooms
The #1 drawing point of Gialel is the affability and helpfulness of the owners/staff. They're kind, lovely people who will go out of their way to help you. Not everyone speaks great English, but there's usually someone there who does, and if not actually there, can be reached on the phone. The second best point would be the location. About 10 minutes' walk to Termini, less than that to Barberini. Within walking distance (1-3km) of most major sights. Meters away from a kiosk, 3 minutes away from a supermarket. The place is generally very clean and tidy. My room was cleaned daily. A couple of times there were stains on my towels, but they were clearly freshly washed ones. Per special request in advance, I was given a kettle for the duration of my stay, at no extra cost. The room also had a mini-fridge and a hairdryer. Pretty roomy shower (rare in Italian B&B's), with plenty of hot water (unless you want to shower straight after your neighbors, in which case they're a bit slower to come, but still there). There is free wi-fi that I had no problem watching youtube vids on my phone with.
I want to preface this by saying that these are relatively minor issues with an otherwise wonderful place, which I will be happy to stay at again in the future. It's a great bargain for that price. But if I'm being nitpicky... 1) Noise - My room was next to reception and I heard every conversation, door closing, etc., as if it was right in my room. If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. If you're on your honeymoon or just want to feel quiet solitude, maybe pick another place to stay. 2) No cell reception in my room at least. 3) Weird smell sometimes, figured it's related to cleaning chemicals rather than sewage/mould. Open the window for 2 minutes and it's gone. 4) No safe, simple lock, no bars on windows = not for paranoids. I have to say I nevertheless felt very safe there. 5) The elevator is tiny and the doors have to be opened manually. A bit tricky with huge bags, but not impossible. 6) Beware, the city tax must be paid in cash and in advance. Not unusual in Italy, but best to know beforehand.
Aloisa and Joseph are wonderful!
I have no complaints.
The location is convenient, most of Rome interesting sightseeing is within reasonable walking distance. Nicely sized room with well equipped bathroom. WiFi works acceptably, except a couple hiccups. Breakfast, though short on selection, gets you started. Really nice family running the place. The owner has a wealth of information about interesting places and how to walk to them.
WiFi could use some love so it is more stable. I'd like some fruits for breakfast and a bit wider selection.
Great staff - very friendly family Great facilities Very clean Comfortable bed
Do not leave the window open or mosquitoes will get into your room and eat you alive. Nothing bad against the hotel though!
Great location, excellent atmosphere and the best cappuccino! I sincerely recommend!
The hotel was in a good place with a lot of bus going to the metro. The personnel was very kind and try to help even if they didn't know English. The breakfast for the size and price was more than excellent. Of course don't except a huge number of choices but comparing with others I think it is was more than very good.
I would say the WIFI signal was bit low in room no1.
Perfect location for exploring the city both by foot or public transport Spacious, clean, comfortable room Adequate breakfast and lovely fresh coffee Very helpful and welcoming hosts
Very friendly staff Good value breakfast - great Italian coffee Large, spotlessly clean room Very clean shared bathroom right next door Handy location for Via Veneta, Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese and walkable from Termini station
Squeaky ceiling fan!
Attitude of the people working in the Hotel
Nothing all excellent
Our first day was fine and the girl who worked at reception that day was relatively friendly.
On the second night I turned on the shower and the room flooded with sewage water from the back of the toilet. There was a really bad smell from it. We went down to reception and there was nobody thee so we phoned them and explained the situation. The girl from the night before came over about half an hour later and started cleaning the bathroom floor with our towels. She said she would dry it up and we could sleep there. I told her we can't sleep there as I am pregnant and I don't think it is healthy to sleep inhaling those fumes and we would have no bathroom for the night! Reluctantly she said we could move to another room that had a shared bathroom. We moved all our stuff and had to wait a long time for the shared shower to be free. While we were waiting an older man came and started screaming agressively at my husband in Italian, despite him explaining that he didn't understand. The younger girl then translated that there is a pump for the water at the back of the toilet and tht it had loosened so there was nothing wrong with the pluming in our room. We had never came across a pump like this before and they had not explained it to us on arrival. He was blaming us that he had to travel across Rome in the evening to sort it out when it was our fault! The customer service was terrible. We had so much stress and did not enjoy ourselves. We weren't offered any money back given that we paid for a room with a private bathroom and ended up sharing. Otherwise, the rooms are noisy and the breakfast consists only of toasted bread with Nutella or croissants from a packet.
Spacious room, lovely staff. Eat in la cantonilla as recommended by aloisa .
Lovely family run atmosphere, good breakfast and large rooms. Staff were very helpful and recommended some good restaurants. would definitely stay again!
An excellent, family run bnb! Clean rooms and very polite staff! I would definitely go again!
Difficult to communicate in english, but the manager did his best to answer to every question we had.
Friendly people, very welcoming. Very good breakfast for the price, also the location.
Wi-fi signal not too good in the bedroom
Position is good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was big, bed was huge and comfortable. Room was fresh. They contacted me before arrival to coordinate the time of arrival.
Toilet was tiny and sink was too small. Breakfast was not satisfactory, there was not even fresh bread. There was some bad smell in the room. Room was not very clean (bed cover was not clean, there was dust under the bed.) Bathroom did not have hairdryer - but they brought me one when I asked. There is no 24 hour reception - but they can be contacted at any time. There was a fridge/mini bar, but it was empty.
Great location, wonderful staff (family run b&b), pretty normal breakfast. The location is great, as its 15 minutes from the termini station, and we walked to all of the locations like Spanish steps, fontana Di trevi, colosseum etc.. I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Rome, value for money!
Nothing bad to say.
friendly and hepful owners, good location, good budget hotel
poor wifi connection, very simple breakfast
The location was excellent. We could walk everywhere & it wasn't too close to the main rides which can get a little too loud. The owners were really friendly & the colazione was good, especially their espresso & cappuccino.
The walls are a little too thin so you can hear people coming in an out but ear plugs can fix that right away.
nice people, nice big rooms, good breakfast, and good location :)
Lovely quiet location. Very safe and some nice restaurants. House was nice and welcome was marvellous.
The showers are far too small. Almost unusable. Totally inadequate and very disappointing.
Family staff was so friendly. Location is safe and near with Rome City Attractions. The rooms was clean and spacious. The breakfast is so delicious. Definitely will be back again if i visit Rome.
Quiet and clean place with good location. Friendly staff. Great facilities. Can's say how much I love this hostel<3
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The place has a nice character.
