눉Although our room (#350) was very spacious and pleasing to the eye, yet the odor from the bathroom was not. It smelled of urine. We should've complained, but we had already unpacked and were settled and not wanting to bother with moving. So, we decided to just leave the bathroom window ajar throughout our stay. We were barely in the room anyhow.
Another thing I did not like was the carpet throughout the entire hotel. It was extremely weathered, stained and not at all a 4 STAR rating standard. It looked like it belonged in a Motel 6. If that.
Lastly, on the night before checking out, I received an email stating a "no show" cancellation with a fee from this hotel. Strange, since we were actually in house. I am guessing that since I had altered our original dates (two weeks prior) that somehow their records were not reflecting the change. Upon checkout at 5am the next morning, I showed the email and discussed this with the desk clerk. He checked on this and said he had no knowledge of any other reservation or charges. So, I assumed it was cleared up. Well, my credit card was charged 459 Euros for a "no-show" and I have been in communication with Booking.com trying to resolve this.
Overall, I wish I could say I would stay here again, but with the smell of the bathroom, the disgusting carpet and the hassle I am going thru with the extra billing, I would have to say NO THANK YOU.
눇My mother and I went on a fantastic two week trip to Europe and our last stop was historical Rome - staying two nights at the Grand Hotel de la Minerve. We chose the hotel for the location and rating. The staff was friendly and helpful - especially the concierge. I can't remember his name, but he set us up with a private tour of The Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum and Saint Peters Cathedral - it was the highlight of our trip! Our room was surprisingly large and the decor was desirable, current and the bed comfortable.
We enjoyed the surrounding shops and restaurants, even though they were a bit touristy. Nonetheless, sitting in the plaza by the Pantheon, having a glass of wine while musicians played nearby was definitely a treat. Location is recommended. Felt safe day and night.
