Hotel Gennarino is set in an elegant Liberty villa of the early 20th century. The hotel is located right in front of the beach establishments, by the Naval Academy.

Rooms are large and hotel is nicely located on the beach. Livorno is not really the place to be. People at the reception were very friendly and helpful. We came 1 day later and because we stayed a full week, they were so kind to compensate this night.
For the rest of the staff service was very poor. You didn't feel welcome at all at breakfast or in the bar/restaurant. They have a pool, beach it's a 1 m deep and very tiny. There is no cosiness in this hotel. It's not what you expect of a 5* hotel
The sea view executive double room was lovely, as were the sea views. The hotel itself was very grand. The front veranda and pool were nice. The staff in the top floor restaurant were very attentive.
FAR too little space for sunbathing - only a small deck at the back and a couple of loungers around the pool at the front. To be 5* I would have expected more than 1 complimentary (small) bottle of water in a double room, more than 2 coffees for the machine and staff being attentive to sunbathers rather than guests having to go inside and order when they wanted something. The front desk staff were also quite aloof.
Bathrooms , hooks were loose, couldn't hang towels.Door in the bathroom was falling apart because of getting wet all the time from guests taking a shower ( no shower courtain) in bathtub, this should be fixed in a five star hotel
Few chairs at the swimming pool, minibar very expensive, small rooms, small parking, dissapointing breakfast
The room needs better soundproofing. You can hear noises from the surrounding rooms. : - /
Staff, location, breakfast
Grand building with parking, rooftop pool and bar/restaurant. Good quality bed and marble bathroom
Staff have a great attitude but about half are poorly trained. Looks 5 star but a bit light on facilities. Despite being full there was a ghost ship atmosphere with a breakfast room only used for 3 morning hours and separate restaurant/bar that was deserted. Perhaps should have extra ground floor bar so people drink in the hotel more.
Comfortable bed, nice pool, impressive building! Free parking, nice selection at breakfast.
No hair dryer in room, no spare pillows in room, only limited toiletries supplied, few sun beds on cramped terrace by pool, small dining room in the evening 50 seats for 500 guests! Only one coffee machine for breakfast so a long queue... I don't expect to stand in line for my morning coffee in a 5 star hotel. 2.5 kilometres walk to old town centre. Very few restaurants in area for dinner.
Spacious room and bathroom, beautiful breakfast, excellent service
Not enough chairs for sitting at the pool- didn't have a place to sit on several occasions
Staff, breakfast, cheik in was too late
Luxurious hotel with lovely large room facing the sea. Masive choice for breakfast, but very busy.
Gale force winds meant whole pool area closed and not enough loungers put out in sheltered terrace area. Breakfast room very busy!
The room was so big. Nice two windows witch is not usual in Italy. Very clean. Bathroom had a tub! Also very big and confortable. It was an apartment rather than a room. Had a swimming pool, but in the roof, and very very cold. Breaksfast was nice, a lot of variety of stuff to eat.
For been a 5 star, it wasn't up to the level. Stuff not very friendly. The shower overflowed and water was running all over the room. Even it looks a beautiful hotel from the outside, it had little glitches. In the picture shows the beach in front with chairs, but actually was across the street and you have to pay to lay on the rocks.
Ugly city, no city-center, depressing port
After 6 days here some positives: The hotel itself is a great old style building, very nice architecture. The location in front of the sea makes the worth of staying here(only if you book a sea view room); The personel from the reception very friendly and helpfull. I recomend this hotel just for short business trips, but not for holiday. As the price in high season is similar with other 4 star hotels very well located in Viareggio ( more expensive town), you may believe that you made a good deal. Maybe the price is good for high season, but dont expect a 5* experience.
Although the building is impressive, everything inside makes it feels like in a healthcare institute, more than in a holliday hotel; very cold atmosphere, empty big walls,no paintings, not any single flower or green leaves in the halls or inside the rooms...needs definatelly improvements...you dont need to be designer to make this place feel more cosy and natural and not a cold monument. The rooms are large but the 32 inch TV is too small for the distance between the bed and the tv, the bathroom is dated and smelly (the shower cabin could not be used because of the smell; fortunatelly there is a tube as well); you dont find in the room slippers or bathrobe, as well as in the bath there is no shower cap or ear cotton sticks etc like in a 5*; the breakfast is just a regular and absolutelly the same for 6 days in row; not choices for vegetarian or vegans except some tomatoes and few slices of carrot; no low fat products, no lactose-free or sugar-free ....things which ussually find in a 5* hotel; only 2 types of eggs (scrambled swimming in oil-almost nobody was eating it- and boiled like a rock); when asked about some other type of eggs (like fried or omlett, the lady-waiter pretend of not understanding english...I looked every morning if anybody could have different eggs, and not...so they purelly dont supply) not to mention that being a hotel right on the sea shore, you expect some fish selection, salmon or any...but in this hotel, it was zero...so breakfast is just a 3+ hotel or a 4 *. The pool on the 5th floor terace is nice but the water cold so we could not use it.(anyhow it has no more than 10 meters lenght). The so called beach accros the street, in front of the hotel has entrance fee and the sunbeds has to be paid as well (for our familly would make another 60 eyros per day)...not to mention that it is not sandy, but a bunch of artifical concrete platform (not the hotel fault, but is good to know for those with small children).
Beautiful and clean rooms. Big and luxurious rooms. Good restaurant.
The city was a bit dull
lack of sunbeds
Location was great, assistance and help of the personell was good.
Prices of the food and beverages!
The bath was great.
On our second night (25th July), we arrived back at the hotel at 11.25 PM, after a 3 hour drive. We went to the rooftop bar, where we were grudgingly provided with 2 glasses of wine. We asked what time the bar closed and were told, "midnight." At 11.45, we asked for 2 more glasses of wine and were informed that the bar had now closed. My partner and I found it highly annoying that a). Bar opening hours appeared to change at random, and b). For a 5 STAR Hotel to be in a position where it is impossible to get any form of alcoholic drink after 11.45 PM (apart from a can of lager from the mini bar) is outrageous. It was the last night of a week's romantic holidaying in Italy and we were treated like children. It really took the shine off what had been a lovely week. It might just be worth mentioning that I am 52 and my partner is in her 40's. We hardly fit the criteria of young British lager louts!
Friendly and helpful staff
Poor breakfast. No real gym, the fitness center was very poorly equipped. Hotel rooms were OK, but nothing noteworthy.
The staff is great, nice location, beautiful hotel.
Our room was spacious and the breakfast buffet was very nice. The rooftop pool was a great place to spend the day.
Wish the pool was open a little later, closes at 7:00.
location room Swimming Pool Brekfast (Gluten Free)
Practically everything. Laying out in the sun and swimming on the rooftop while overlooking the water was something I won't forget.
The only inconveniences I had were the small number of lounge chairs on the rooftop.
Fantastic view from the top terrace. Perfect place for a glass of wine before dinner inside. Very big room. High quality.
Nothing on the negative side.
