I loved the Grand Hotel Del Gianicolo! The location was the best part: on top of a hill overlooking all of Rome, surrounded by trees and upper- class facilities, including many embassies and the American University of Rome, which is where my conference was located. I loved that it was just by a beautiful, wooded walk through lovely statuary down to the area close to the Vatican. My room and the other venues in the hotel were very nice and nicely kept, with all the ameneties one could ask for. Magnifico! My only unhappiness came from not getting to order room service at any time; I generally wanted a quick dinner around 6:00 pm, but they would not serve me until 7:30 or 8:00, which was too late for me to eat and then go to bed in time to get up at the early hours for my sessions.

Everything!!!..starting with the strategic location; the efficient service with a warm smile from all its staff; and the convenient facilities provided, making me feel so much at ease. I would definitely return to the hotel one fine day.

Hotel is perfectly located for anyone who needs to be over Tevere (Tiber). It is in a walking range from Vatican and nearby the hotel there is a most beautiful spot for viewing Rome. There is very little (nothing) offered if the pool does not work.

Only a 20 minute walk to the Vatican and the hop-on-hop-off tour buses. Superb panoramic views of the city along the way. The pool was closed after September, which was not explained to us when we actually telephoned the hotel before booking. Our holiday was during the October half term and the reason we chose this hotel was because our 15 year old son wanted to be able to enjoy a swim. Only one straight-backed chair in our room to sit on. Only two TV channels in English and both were news channels. Not really anywhere to relax and lounge around downstairs. In short, the hotel was a lovely building but really only useful for sleeping in. The prices in the hotel restaurant were extortionate so only ate there once. Found a smashing little eating place a couple of hundred yards around the corner at half the price.

The gardens were lovely. The pool was nice. The first night our room's air conditioning did not work, and at 3:00 am the neighbor's tv woke us up...the night clerk did not help us with either problem. The second night, new room, the overhead light would not turn off, so the manager turned off the electricity to the room.

Location was quite acceptable although the hotel is not in the center of Rome. The pool was the main reason to choose the hotel and it was nice to cool down in the afternoon. The staff was accommodating. Some hotel staff is more helpful than others.

A very nice staff, and a good breakfast. The pool was exelent and it is possible to get a nice lunch there. We traveled with a child and the location is perfect. A little bit outside the main streets, 10-15 euros for a taxi or 1 euro for buss (5 min) to city centre.

Gem of a hotel. Location fabulous and perfect in the hot August sun. Pool was terrific and staff very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.Wonderful to have the outside cafe by the pool and in the garden. Would definitely stay here again. Rooms were quite small but they were extremely clean and comfortable and very cool - which was wonderful!

It's very family-friendly, because of the tranquille location and relaxing because of the large out-door swimming pool and nice interior of the hotel. It was great to get back from sight-seeing and relaxing for a couple of hours at the pool, before going out for dinner. Continental breakfast was also great, especially because of the view from the roof-top breakfast room. Easy access to the historic center by bus, and something between 10-15 euro for a taxi-ride home from the center, which was cheap and convenient. Me and my daughter (7 years old) stayed for 2 nights in a standard room. The room was nice (a bit small) and the bed was great, but there was a continuing noise all night. It sounded like water running, or maybe it was the airconditioning from the neighbouring room? We where tired and fell asleep anyway, but if you are sensitive to that kind of noise, bring ear-plugs :)

Good position for all sites, trasport infrastructure good, freindly staff As usual room mini bars are vastly overpriced, visitors would use this facility if the prices were reasonible. As are hotel pool snacks.

We liked the swimming pool and the grounds. The location is difficult for seeing the main attractions of Rome. It is too far from the center of town, and there is no Metro near by. The staff was courteous, but did not go out of their way for us. Room was very small! Barely any space between bed and walls.

Great position, with a view over Rome. It is a steep walk down to the river, but this adds to the experience, and you have the extra pleasure of being near to the Trastavere with its restaurants, bars and fine architecture. The The hotel staff were a bit defensive and charmless, and the restaurant is a disaster ...

“Very upscale. Old 6th century convent with great chapel on site. Quiet and reserved place. When you go out to dinner they come in and put candies on the night stand and slippers near the bed. Breakfasts are very good. You eat in a beautiful courtyard. Also, great view of Rome from the roof top.” Andrew, Lewiston |
