Fantastic breakfast; old, but elegant rooms; helpful desk personnel; great location; one clerk tremendously tolerant in face of American abusiveness (not from us!) Calzone staff are uniformly unfriendly. They are not "happy campers."

La sala degli Specchi where we had breakfast - somewhat faded, like the rest of the hotel, but it must have been magnificent 50 years ago. The whole hotel needs redecorating. The carpet in our bedroom was a disgrace. Wifi was fast but expensive.

Faded grandeur meets Fawlty Towers. No wifi despite free advertised. One waiter for bar & room service - usually not around. Mosquitoes in rooms despite none outside. Lost booking on arrival. On it's last legs - sadly.

The pre-deco decor was very pleasing. Service was good. Location in center easy to get to all points of interest. Keep hotel in mind as an old dowager with vintage outerwear. Not for backpackers and young families, The maintrnance lacking. Shutter on balcony, broken and balconies and outer building in need of repair and painting. Rug in room needed deep cleaning or replacing. Bathroom toilet paper roll cover broken and not replaced 3 days stayed there. Advertised Spa and was not there or available!

Excellent location and very helpful and friendly staff. Old style hotel with historic atmosphere with large lobby and breakfast room. the carpet in the room was very dusty and was causing some problems for my slightly allergic wife.

The hotel has a lot of history and is in an excellent location. There is valet parking, so you know your car will be safe for the time you are in Palermo (there is a 21 Euro/day fee for this). Breakfast is included. The rooms are updated and the bathroom had a tub! The room we had was small and had a distinct musty smell. There was no view to speak of, which is probably to be expected in a big city like Palermo. The room also did not have any coffee or tea options, and there was no guide for room service, nor did anyone answer when I called. Breakfast was nice overall, but the service (anywhere in the hotel, for that matter) was not exactly with a smile. You'd never know you were at one of Palermo's most historically-significant hotels that was supposed to be "luxury." Staff crowded at the doorway smoking rather than helping with bags or opening doors for you. The hotel could do a lot more to play up its history and glamour!

Some reviewers have dismissed the "faded glory" of this signature hotel of Palermo. It is a little worn in parts, but that weariness is more than compensated for by the grandeur, amenities and sheer historical significance. Our room -- which was not on the most recently renovated floor -- was fabulous, beautiful wainscoting, extremely comfortable and well appointed. Every hall is lined with art, and there are several historical salons.Staff were very responsive and helpful with all questions, and even provided a tour of historical rooms in the hotel. We cannot imagine a lodging more in keeping with the history of this former capital.

Wonderful service. Grand New Year's celebration and impressive decor. Hotel needs to be painted and spruced up especially windows and hallways. Reputation is important to this place but they need to bring it back.

Had lots of character. Bit jaded in parts but rooms were lovely. Can really imagine how the hotel would have looked in years gone by! Will definitely return. Lift is a bit scary - hope it is safe. Chose to use the stairs rather than risk the lift!

Excellent location, very helpful staff, fantastic breakfast, had a very quiet and large room with good beds, allowed us a late checkout without extra cost to suit our late evening flight. No complaints, would strongly recommend this hotel.

Beatuiful hotel. Staff was very polite and helpful. Breakfast had a variety of choices. Would stay again. Charging for the WiFi. Seems to be typical in Sicily, but at the price of the rooms, I would think this should be included. They also cater to business meetings. Would think this is a hassle for anyone with a computer or needs internet conections.
