Grand Hotel Royal    

Excellent location, comfortable luxurious hotel. Perched up a cliff overlooking the harbour but with sea bathing by lift. Lovely terraces, pool and outside relaxing areas.

A grand old liner now acting as a cruise ship, with piped music everywhere.

Very slow service at the terrace bar by the pontoons. Only one staff member and disappeared for long periods of time.

Grand Hotel Royal was superb. It was set in lovely peaceful grounds with a good sized swimming pool and lift down to the beach area - both had plenty of sun loungers. Views over the bay of Naples were beautiful. Great location in Sorrento - easy walking distance to the shops, restaurants and train station. It couldn't be easier to get to Pompeii, Capri and Vesuvius. A great introduction to Italy!

I love the location of this hotel. It is 5 min walk from the train station and 10 min walk to the city center. The breakfast is the best, the only hotel we stayed in Italy that offers a full breakfast.

No onsite massage service is a bit of minus for me although the staff recommended a place for us with reasonable price. We stayed in this hotel in late Apr and the weather was hot, and the air conditioning was not working at all. Turned out they don't turn on their Air Conditioning until summer months. It was awful and we complained. The next day they turned on the Air Cond, so at the end, we are happy about it. Other than that, the hotel is really nice.

Great location and a great breakfast.

I have stayed there before and had a beauitful balcony room with a view. All four couples in our group who stayed there had terrible rooms in what I called the 'Blowels' of the hotel. Absolutely miserable with no view. When we all asked to upgrade they said no rooms but showed us a room overlooking the street with all the noise and that was the upgrade. I wouild never stay there again and was sorry to have steered by group of friends there to our miserable rooms.

There was nothing not to like. Exhausted, we overslept the first day we were there and missed breakfast. We just mentioned it when we were at the desk and the woman said it was no problem--it would be brought to the bar area! The gardens around this hotel are breathtaking--wisteria was in full bloom and everything was manicured! The room was spacious and comfortable--facing the street with a balcony but so much greenery that it felt private. We enjoyed the water views at breakfast.

The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful part of italy. Very elegant, with beautiful garden, rich breakfast, few minutes walking from the city center.

Fantastic facilities and location. Some of the staff very friendly and helpful, but then, some aloof, distant and uncaring. Great cleaning staff. Best breakfast we had in Europe after 10 weeks of travelling.

My wife had an extremely nasty fall in the corridor due to a wet floor. Initially, there was great concern shown by the staff, as my wife was in a great degree of pain. A doctor was not required as there was no broken bones but a significant amount of bruising was soon discovered by us. However, there was no follow-up by the staff nor as much as a register of concern nor enquiry into her welfare. My wife spent the rest of the day in bed and in pain. Only having a limited amount of time in Sorrento, we found ourselves unable to enjoy the township as we should, and under normal circumstances, could have, as it is a beautiful town. We felt robbed through no fault of our own.Very disappointing to experience what we did.

The hotel is in a great location, close to the train station and the main piazza in Sorrento. The view from our sea view room was spectacular. Our children were very happy with free wi-fi in the rooms

The restaurant was not really suitable for a family; too expensive and formal. We did not have any option but to eat out every night, which was a shame. The swimming pool is not heated and so not suitable outside the summer season - a missed opportunity - our children would have loved to use this... Also would have loved to go down to the private lido but this was closed...

Beautiful hotel with a pool, near the coast. We had a mountain view room which has the advantage late and early in the season of sun on the balcony. In high summer this would be unbearably hot. (Sea view rooms receive no sun). Soundproofing is very good and we slept soundly even though there is a road next to the hotel on the mountain view side. Although it doesn't vary much from day to day, the buffet breakfast gives a wide choice and omelettes and fried eggs are cooked to order in the restaurant. Our room had a bath with shower over and we liked to have the choice.

Discovering the eye wateringly high cover and service charges for the 2 evening meals we ate in the hotel when we checked out. We had not noticed them described in the menus. On some rare rainy days unless the roller shutters were down the wind blew rain under the balcony doors flooding the tiles. As we lovd to look out day or night thi was unfortunate. Hopefully they will improve the watertightness of the doors.

Great location very close to the centre of Sorrento and railway station. Beautiful gardens, sea views and nice pool area. Would be lovely in hot summer weather. Staff very efficient and welcoming.

Public areas very nice but dated, not much atmosphere (but to be fair it was end of season so hotel not busy). Room cold at end October as heating cannot be activated on a room by room basis (air conditioning still on cooling mode for whole hotel). Told the only option was more blankets! Lift to beach not working

Immaculately clean and luxurious with a magnificent view of the sea... Gorgeous tile and inlaid wood in room, beautiful antiques throughout hotel. Warm, friendly and helpful staff. Loved the vintage ambiance.

Very close to the train station, just 5 min walk. Also close to all other shopping streets in sorrento. Easy to get a train to pompei and boat to amalfi coast. Hotel is very lovely, with good breakfast and fantastic view of the marina and mount Vesuvius. Definitely recommended.

Improve the towels this is comment you can pass on to management.

Friendly helpfull staff making a stay very relaxing. Very close to the bus and train station and also the town center.

Would have liked tea and coffee making equipment in the room.
