We (my husband and me) really liked everything, especially the location - aside from the city life with beautiful countryside-mountains, hills, long and winding roads, picturesque landscape with the river Serchio where we've walked 100 kms to and fro, cycled and just had small picnics by the river bank. The staff was really helpful.Oh, and the breakfast was magic -I've never eaten so many pasteries and bakeries before - really homelike and delicious - couldn't resist. This place is perfect for travelling to different towns nearby, like Lucca ,Pisa, Viareggio etc. Surely, You'd better rent a car or bikes or take a train for faster commuting;) Definitely want to return there again, maybe with a baby;)

The hotel was convenient to Pisa. The rude and arrogant head waiter in the restaurant. The bedroom had a smell - old smoke, detergent???

The Carignano was a disappointment and did not live up to the standard depicted on your web page. Specifically 1 The room was tired and dingy opening to a courtyard which gave the impression of being in a basement. The courtyard was dirty with a very dead pot plant in one corner. 2 The air conditioning did not work when we arrived - this in temperatures of over 30 celcius ! It was restored on day two but we were only there for 3 days. 3 The safe in our room was jammed in the locked position so we could not use it. Despite repeated requests it was not put right. 4 The toaster did not work on day one - again on a three day stay that is 33% useless. 4 We had one meal in the much vaunted restaurant. The food was good but the service was atrocious - long delays, orders confused and all served in a state of some bewilderment by the staff. Bearing all the above in mind I am looking for at least 33% off the bill. William Jackson

Good breakfast and well English speaking staff. Hotel has it's own restaurant so you can have a dinner for the reasonable price. A bit far from the centre of Lucca. It's not easy to find when you arriving by car. Room was ok, but the view from the window could be better...

Its conveniently located 5 km from Lucca, a very lovely town and other interesting spots, like the caves of Garfagnana. The restaurant seemed to have good critiques- I didn't eat there, though. The girls at the reception are quite friendly. Historically, the place has apparently been a travellers inn for hundreds of years. i liked the room full of books and magazines which I discovered before breakfast. I didn't like that they gave me a room that had windows opening to the inside patio, the restaurant! When I tried to change it, I was told that the place was fully booked. The manager later tried to oblige me by saying that I had already occupied the room, which was not true- luckily I had left my luggage in the car and immediately backed out. After a lot of shuffling they came up with a double room that had had a waterleak and had been under repair, it had a large windowfront towards the lawn and a balcony and cost 20 Euros more. I was so exhausted from travelling that I agreed, they cleaned the room from some debris. After I had reminded them to switch the electricity on it was quite relaxing.

A good comfortable hotel near Lucca (10 minute drive to the central city tourist gates where driving is restricted). Plenty of parking as in the country side. As New Zealand a family of 6 with 4 children aged between 11 - 16 we needed two room and they had a bedroom easily set up for 4 to accommodate children. Rooms were clean, comfortable and normally airconditioned (ours wasn';t working in our room unfortunately that night but the kid's room was and normally it would be. Continental breakfast was provided in the room price and was fine. Very quiet at night, and staff helpful. A large para pool and a few deck chairs out back to swim in but more suitable for kids aged 5 to 13 and not landscaped or set up as a hotel feature. The intenet access across the hotel was fine and if wanted could eat in the hotel restaurant. We found it value for money and a comfortable spot to stay if visiting Lucca and have a car.

We stayed over a night, travelling around Toscana. Hotel is clean, hotel staff is hospitable, good english speaking. Pizza for diner and breakfast was good - just had everything we wanted. Room has lovely old furniture. Free wi-fi at the reception (one pc) It seems that they have a problems with bugs-ants - we didn't see any, but the traps were in every corner, and room has a bad smell because of it. Tv has only many italian sites. We hoped to feel more of Lucca influence, but the hotel is surrounded by corn fields.

The rooms are clean. There is a big parking area. The doors are locked after midnight. When you come to the hotel at late hours, you have to make a call to a guy and wait him for 10-15 minutes to open the door. Until then you wait in front of the hotel. Another problem is the breakfast. The buffet is never complete, you always wait for something, you cannot find even cold water. This is a serious problem especially during summer.

We would certainly stay at Hotel Carignano again as it is perfectly situated in the charming Tuscan countryside but is close enough to cycle in to the beautiful city of Lucca along the cycle path - a leisurely 5kms or so. The restaurant is excellent and very well priced and the swimming pool provides a welcome relief from the heat of the day. Staff were friendly and efficient. Overall highly recommended.

It should have taken us 4 hours to arrive per gps but took almost 11 due to traffic and storm. Our little one was very tired and crying. The lady at the desk immediately hunted down some milk for his bottle and then warmed it for us. That was our first clue about what a wonderful place this was. Breakfast was delicious, staff friendly, beds comfortable. We will be back again when we can stay longer. Our gps could not find the hotel and we kept trying to call the hotel to ask for directions. Unfortunately we could not get anyone on the phone. I called booking.com and they tried but also could not get an answer. Booking.com sent them an email and they immediatly called our cell phone from their cell phone. Turns out the storm knocked out all the phone lines. They did say that GPSs had trouble locating them so I would say just get detailed directions to the hotel first instead of relying on modern technology.
