Hotel Canova is just down the road from the beautiful basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, in the heart of Rome. Walk to the Coliseum in less than 10 minutes. This small hotel was once a monastery.
Score from 281 reviews Very good
Set between the Coliseum and Piazza Venezia, the Romano is a boutique hotel overlooking the Roman Fora. The rooms are uniquely decorated and set over 4 floors of a historic building.

Just 700 metres from Termini Station, Rome’s central hub, Hotel Virgilio offers a convenient central location. It is set in a 19th-century building with elegant interiors and a classic-style lounge.
Score from 902 reviews Very good
Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
There was nothing we didn't like about this hotel, it's very traditional and quaint in its decor and space but true to Italian culture and we loved it!
Had a wonderful time and this hotel is in the perfect location for exploring all the main sights. Albeit small the hotel is very welcoming the room was adequate for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. The staff are extremely helpful and were able to assist with printing tickets and organising transport to and from the airport. The breakfast was particularly good with the best scrambled eggs cooked fresh to order we have ever tasted, the fresh juice and pastries were also particularly good! The roof terrace is an additional delight where we sat in the evening playing cards and enjoying the last of the Sunshine, all in all a perfect few days away and would definitely recommend and stay again! Thank you!
Wifi was free but terrible quality. The rooms were small. The airco did not work. There was hardly warm water & no water pressure. Showing was almost impossible.
Location was great, next to the colosseum. We did everything walking from the hotel. Safe. Friendly staff. Bathroom was good size. Breakfast was decent.
Location, location, location. Staff helpful and friendly, room and bed comfortable, balcony/patio wonderful, breakfast good.
Breakfast was Ok by Italian hotel standards, but mediocre on an international scale.
1 minute from the Colliseum yet quiet enough to sleep in. Great restaurants just seconds away and the metro just minutes away.
The bed was very thin and hard. The weather was beautiful during our trip but the heat was blasting in the room. We ended up having to turn that off and sleep with windows open.
The proximity to the Coloseum and Roman Forum was awesome.
clean Lovely hotel well worth the money. Staff were lovely.
Only drawback is that the room was quite small - but it had all the facilities you'd need, just very compact!
The hotel is literally right beside the Colosseum, and super convenient for transport links as well. Rooms spotless, staff friendly, good breakfast included. Would definitely recommend.
No tea/coffee making facilities.
Great location, right beside the Metro and Colosseum. Good value for money. Friendly staff, free Wi-Fi.
I didn't like that the door to the terrace was so often locked and I was not able to access it with my room key and had to go all the way downstairs to ask them to go all the way back up to open it. Seems like an inconvenience for all parties involved. I felt bad to ask!
Paid way less than anything comparable in the area. Our room was small but this is the usual case throughout Italy. The view from the rooftop terrace is so beautiful. And both men I encountered at the front desk were extremely helpful and friendly no matter how many questions we plied them with. The location is so key! Near all the major sites.. 5 min walking to coliseum .. 20 min walk to the Vatican .. And 30 minute walk to termini station (I would not recommend doing this with luggage). I would definitely stay here again the next time I am in Rome.
Really enjoy my stay there. Friendly staff, good breakfast and clean room.
no tea/coffee making facility in the room. (Nothing major, I'm just a coffee lover and would have loved a coffee in bed in the morning!) )
The location was brilliant, a stones throw from the colosseum, and within walking distance of most of the major attractions (we actually walked back from the Vatican one day whilst taking in the sights) the hotel itself is basic, but is kept very clean and has everything you need! (although the hotel provide a hairdryer, if like me you have long, thick hair, you're probably better off taking your own as the hotels took forever!! No problem for my boyfriends hair!) The breakfast was lovely, and the staff couldn't do enough for us! I would definitely stay here again!
very small single room it did not look so clean. I had to change the first room I got because it was so cold (it seemed that the air conditioner did not work) (my stay was in the first days of February). Second room I got was warmer. Single rooms (one single bed) are too small!
location; staff very kind;
Air condition in my room was not working properly.
Very good location next to Colosseum. Nice and helpfull staffs. Smaller, but confortable room.
Location superb 300 metres from colloseum and metro the staff where excellent and my room had a balcony
The room was quite small but even then it was comfortable with a queen size bed.
Location was excellent - only a few blocks from the Colosseum. Breakfast every morning was simple but plentiful. The staff was very friendly!
little small rooms but good for several days in Roma
perfect location in the center!!
Very good breakfast, excellent coffee. Location is superb! I highly recommend early morning jogging around Colosseum.
-For one shower had only warm water, not hot.
-Room was clean and serviceable albeit a bit small (for the price I couldn't complain). -Wifi was very good. -Staff was helpful and friendly (not a given at all in Rome)
The shower was tiny.
Proximity to all sights in Rome was excellent. Far enough away from Termini that you felt safe. Lovely staff.
I have put fair against bed comfort, I am 72 and used to a soft bed with a form fitting top layer, to me this bed has hard, plus the pillows are the square hard foam type that wont fold, I usually take my own feather pillow but as I only had cabin luggage I went without, that was a mistake.
excellent service, they booked all our taxi's, airport to hotel & back, to Vatican, Piazza Navona. Breakfasts were continental and excellent, it is a 3 minute walk to the Colosseo, 2 minutes to local restaurants & shops, Piazza Ventia is 6 to 10 minutes away but if you take in all the sights is takes a lot longer, you do tend to loose track of time until your tummy rumbles or you need coffee
Beds were a little too firm for my liking. Shower was very small.
I loved the location of the hotel, just a couple of blocks from the Coliseum and located in a small quiet alley. Several good restaurants are only steps away. The hotel's rooftop terrace at night, with the view of the Coliseum lit up, was my favorite thing! It was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and relax after a long day of touring. The complimentary breakfast was very good! The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Small standart room One small window
Location Breakfast Personal Clean Good for city excursions
The price was high for a 3 star.
The location of the hotel is great because it is in the center and walking distance to the metro and other interesting places.
